Congratulations to Mason County on another win. The margin makes me think that West Carter came to play. Congratulations to the Comets as well for putting up a fight against one of the top teams in 3A this season. West Carter could be a tough out for Belfry again in the playoffs this year!

West was able to hold the ball and score on two long drives, one of 14 and one of 15 plays. Mason County's scores were mostly of the quick strike variety. 30+ minutes possession time for the Comets, who game-planned well.

3 TD passes by Pawsat - two to Gilbert (the first on a 30-yard diving catch in the end zone) and one to Fearis; also a 73-yard rushing TD by Harris. Close to 400 yards of offense for the Royals in less than 18 minutes.

Sloppy field didn't really come into play tonight, no fumbles lost by either side.

Congrats to the Royals, who are at home for a big rivalry game vs. the Fleming County Panthers next Friday. West hosts Lewis County with the final district playoff spot on the line.

Gilbert's diving catch was fantastic. It probably would have made an NFL hightlight.

The field was very sloppy. West did give up an interception but overall was more successful at passing than I ever expected. Mason's defense was sporadic, especially the pass defense. Several times Mason's defense held tough on 1st and 2nd down and then gave up 10-15 yards on 3rd.

As of right now,who would Mason County play in the first round of the playoffs and then projecting on, second round?

Here are the way the brackets look:

East Ridge @ Mason County

Fleming Co @ Pike Co Central/Sheldon Clark Winner

Pike Co Central/Sheldon Clark Loser @ Russell

West Carter @ Belfry

You would guess that Sheldon Clark would be the winner of their game next week against Pike Co Central, but they reportedly will have a few major players suspended due to a fight last night @ Belfry...so it might go either way.

In any case, Mason County gets the 1st 2 games at home and then I believe has to travel to Belfry for the 3rd round unless Russell could pull off a 2nd round upset down there. In that case, Mason County would host Russell in the 3rd round. After that, I think they'd likely have to go to Breathitt County or Somerset for the state semifinal game.

Mr. Parker, you always come through with the facts and details, enjoy reading what you have to say. Does East Ridge pose any threat to the Royals and can Fleming beat Pike or SC to possibly play Mason again at Mason in the second round? Thanks.

East Ridge won't pose a threat to Mason. They are 3-5, but their 3 wins came against weak teams. Every game they've played against a solid team has resulted in a blowout. Lawrence Co 62-7, Sheldon Clark 63-28, and even Pike Co Central 62-0.

I think a Fleming County-Pike Co Central game could be close. Fleming has some good athletes and a big line so they might be able to pull it out. I think Sheldon Clark will beat Fleming, though, if that matchup transpires. That would set up a rematch from last year when Sheldon Clark beat Mason County in the 2nd round of the playoffs. After this week's Sheldon Clark-Pike Co Central game, we'll know what to expect.

Mason was not prepared for this game at all. West gave Mason all they wanted on both sides of the ball. West didn't step up and make key plays on defense in the second half, the score stayed close until the second part of the fourth quarter. West WR #10 Cody Stamper showed that he can play with the best of the best in the state and he is only a sophomore. Look out for West in the Playoffs, they are a young team getting better every week.

I agree with you. I look for West Carter to give Belfry a run for their money in the 1st round just like they did last year.

I left this game truely impressed with West Carter. Considering that last years game was a 55-8 running clock beatdown, this team has made great strides in less than a year. They will be a force in this district the next couple of years. This was probably the best gameplan anyone has had against Mason this year. Good coaching and young talent, the sky is definitely the limit for this squad. Good luck the remainder of the season.

When seeds are the same, even-numbered districts host in even years, and vice versa. Being that Mason/Russell are in District 7, we've been under the impression that winning out, Mason would have homefield until Bowling Green. Is this not true?

Scratch the previous post. When it would get to the semis, it would be the numbers of regions, not districts. Mason is in Region 4, so if either #1 seed from the above bracket (Somerset clinched, and Breathitt as of now) faces off against them, it would be at that venue.
