This is my understanding of how it works in Kenton Co. If you live within the defined area for the school and are attending a district junior high school then you are accepted into the high school. They will accept students from outside of defined area for the school as long as there is enough room. They have some predetermined number of students allowed given the number of classrooms and teachers. The predetermined number is a number that they do not wish to exceed for academic reasons. If there isn't enough room then the student doesn't get in regardless of how good an athlete a student is. If there is enough room to let some kids in but not all, they have established a set of critieria that determines the order in which kids are accepted. Athletics are not a part of the criteria. Once you're allowed in, you can stay. This is true for kids who live within the Kenton Co school district but want to go to another school in the district (i.e. someone in Scott's area who wants to attend Dixie) as well as kids from outside of the district. There will be a starting offensive lineman for Highlands this year who lives in Kenton Co and originally wanted to go to Dixie but was turned down for lack of room. His family then decided to send him to Highlands since Dad graduated from Highlands.

No doubt our draw is easier but we weren't complaining before when our district was opposite Trinity's. Heck, Boone Co has been a bigger obstacle to us than Trinity.:creepy: :mad: :cry:

Wow! I am surpirsed and disappointed. I was looking forward to the Dixie vs Villa matchup which is obviously not going to happen. Congratulations to Lloyd on the win and Good luck to the the Dixie seniors.

The important team is 1-1 against Trinity in those years.

First of all, I wouldn't be surprised if Male won it all THIS year so I certainly wouldn't count out Louisville. Second, as I have stated before, NKY 4A is getting better all the time and it's only a matter of time before an NKY 4A team gets the job done. I'll even predict right now that Trinity will be the only Louisville team to win a game against NKY 4A in the first round of the playoffs this year. They have shown in recent years that they can compete with the likes of Trinity. Now they need to take that next step and take home a ring. It will be up to the NKY 4A coaches to raise both their game and the game of their players to reach that next level. I look forward to it. As far as EKY 4A, they are the longest of long shots. Most of those schools are just barely 4A in enrollment and they don't have the winning tradition of some the the smaller schools in EKY. Lack of a winning tradition and a 2-1 disadvantage in enrollment is too big a hurdle for them to overcome. In WKY, I doubt that it will happen other than possibly Henderson Co and even then I think they need to get a coach in there who is willing to use the numbers at his disposal. Some of the other good football schools are in smaller classes (Mayfield, Owensboro Catholic) or are border-line between 3A and 4A (Bowling Green) and don't compete at the 4A level, at least not all years. Perhaps westsider could comment on other WKY teams that might have a shot. IMHO, the Lex schools are the biggest underachievers in 4A. They have both the numbers and the athletes to get the job done and they have failed in the past. You could draw comparisons between the Lex 4A schools of recent years and the Boone Co teams of the late 80's and early 90's. Enough talent to get the job done, at least on a par with X or T in some years, but for various reasons, including coaching they didn't get the job done. (Hey Boone Co: it's spelled P-A-S-S!). Scott Co, Henry Clay or Dunbar might be able win state and I wouldn't be completely shocked if they did but I can't say that I expect it will happen.

The schedule for the regionals depends upon when the districts are completed which depends upon the weather. This year it looks like that weather is dgoing to cooperate so districts should be this week and regionals should be next week. Chances are that the state championship will be determined weeks after the winners have been out of school.

It isn't decided yet. It won't be decided until the districts are over. Once the districts are over there will be a draw to determine who plays who. The draw is set up to ensure that the disctrict winners will play teams that lost in the district finals.

I talked to Josh's Dad when CovCath played Dixie. He said that Josh was getting an MRI. I guess the news was not good.:cry: Any information on a prognosis for Josh?

They have already torn down the stands to the football field. They are also tearing up the parking lot where the new baseball field will be. If the football field is supposed to be ready for football season (Aug/Sep this year), I would guess that they should have no problem getting the baseball field ready by Mar/Apr of next year

I was able to see the first game. Strong went the whole way for Dixie. Stephens went the distance for CovCath. CovCath's big first inning in the first game was highlighted by a grand slam HR that landed on the roof of the school. Stephens seemed to keep Dixie off balance except for their big inning (4th or 5th) when they wore out the CF and RF chasing balls into the gap. In that inning Dixie's first seven batters reached base and all seven of them scored. Wish I could have stayed for the second game. Sounds like it was another good one. It was nice to see Hat Trick at the game also.

I'm a little bit surprised that you had both pitches go the distance this early in the season. Any idea how many pitches either of them threw?

Very close game for most of the second half. The score was tied at 36-36 in the third quarter and the game went back and forth until it was tied 50-50. NCC scores the last 10 points for the margin of victory. The bottom line was that NCC made their shots in the final minutes and Dixie did not. Dixie had open looks but the shots just didn't fall.

All the compliments of Coach Chevalier, his staff and players are well deserved but I am going to take this opportunity to defend Coach Henley and the Holmes Bulldogs. If I were coaching Holmes and the score was close at the end in the ballgame, I would put the ball in Jefferson's hands, have him drive done the middle where he can take the shot, pass the ball to a man cutting to the basket from the wings, or kick the ball out to Edmonson for an open three. That seemed like that's what Holmes did several times at the end of he game. I thought that Holmes came up short because they missed the shot and then either didn't get the rebound or the putback missed also. I thought that Holmes had their chances down the stretch but they failed to convert.

Dixie took a slight lead early in the first quarter but Holmes hung tough and pulled about even at the end of one. Midway through the second quater Dixie opened up a 12 point lead thanks to good shooting and passing (27-15?) but then Holmes forces some Dixie turnovers and Dixie missed some open shots and Holmes was able to pull within one at halftime (28-27?). Dixie was cold in the third quarter and Holmes took advantage to take the lead by 7-8 points (39-31?). I thought the turning point of the game came early in the 4th quarter when Jefferson was called for a foul, reacted to the call a bit too strongly and got a technical foul. Jefferson then had to go the the bench since he had 4 fouls. Dixie made three of the free throws and scored on the next possession to turn an 8 point Holmes lead into a three point Holmes lead. Dixie kept chipping away and finally took the lead with about a minute left to go. Holmes couldn't quite convert and Dixie made most of their free throws in the closing seconds.
