Villa Madonna beat Lloyd today. The game was pushed back a day and played at NKU in order to get the game in. Senior Kyle Herbstreit pitched for Villa Madonna and Drifmeyer threw for Lloyd Memorial. Herbstreit and Drifmeyer both threw all complete games of 8 innings. All in all it was a well played game by both sides. Big moment came late in the game. In the 6th Lloyd came back from a 6-1 defecit with a 5 run inning and took the lead in the top of the 7th. Villa had a runner reach 1st on an error and was then advanced to second on a bunt. Senior Mitch Ford drove in the tying run with one out in the 7th to send the game into extra innings.

 

Herbstreit retired Lloyd 1,2,3 in the 8th. Villa came up in the bottom of the 8th when Junior Geoff Lamping had a drag bunt that forced a wild throw to first. Villa's 9 hitter Will Reis again bunted and Lloyd went for the play at 2nd which was thrown wild advancing runners to 2nd and third. They then walked the leadoff hitter to load the bases when senior Kyle Herbstreit won the game for himself and hit a line drive threw the 3rd / short hole to win the game for Villa.

In addition this 8 inning game was victory number 100 for coach Dave Meier.

Beating Lloyd is a big win for VMA. Congratulations! Does anybody know the last time VMA beat Lloyd?

I actually dont think that Villa has ever beaten Lloyd in baseball. Coach Meier said in his 11 years there it has never happened.
