Didn't they open the season with LCA? They didn't no-hit them. I know there pitching is as advertised because I think they are the team to beat just wondering which teams they have no-hit and 1 hit. Also do you think hitting will be their downfall because it seems they have struggled against quality pitching?

The voting for the top 25 changed this year. There is one coach per region who submits a top 20 and those votes are tallied to produce a top 25. I know the coaches send 4 or 5 teams from their region to all the other coaches to be considered. I agree I think there are still some problems with the pre-season top 25 but it is better than the past and once the season begins I think the top 25 will become much clear.

Do you believe the words you are typing? I have been watching Spalding pitch since he was an 11 year old throwing for the Louisville Lightning. He has been a phenom since then, I believe was even flown around the country by an elite travel team from Texas (Houston Angels). Also I am pretty sure all scouts know more than you, why would they lie about his velocity? Also throwing maximum velocity is not going to cause serious arm troubles at this time of year if the proper conditioning has been done over the winter. I doubt his coach let him throw more tha 25 or 30 pitches, the number of pitches is much more a concern this early not velocity. Most all kids I know start throwing end of November and throwing bullpens end of December/first of January so they are very far along at this point. This is even more true for kids who don't play other sports. I know by the time any of the players at our program in central Kentucky throw in an intra-squad scrimmage they have had thrown 8-10 bullpens prior to that day.

Going into the season you would have to put Mercer County and Somerset as the top 2 because of the experience they return. You also can never count out Danville and West because they have proven over the past several years they are always in the hunt. A couple darkhorses could be Pulaski, Southwestern and I even think Wayne could pull an upset or two.

There have rumblings that most of those stats are fudged quite a bit. If you look at Wolfe County schedule you will see their strength of schedule. They are beating teams by 20 and 30 runs but lose to Bardstown by almost 20. For those who aren't familar with Bardstown they are a young team who is below average right now.

I am very well connected to a couple D1 coaches here in Kentucky and I know for a fact that Sexton has hit 89. I witnessed it with my own eyes as a D1 coach had the gun.

I know a few weeks back in Lexington Sexton was 87-88 and touched 89. Morehead State was there with the gun on him.

Heard the Boyle game will be on the internet in video this week. People are saying that Ckysports is showing the game on their IHIGH site Friday night.

Nice looking team, they definitely got some players. Is this where the top 12th region players play for that age group? Two state titles is also impressive, how is the competition for these tournaments?

Forgot all about Justin, which is hard to do. Easily one of the best players in Kentucky this year. I see we got some stats on some of these players. Does anyone have stats for some of these other guys?

I think you have to have lights, especially at schools that play their JV games right after the Varsity games. If you didn't have lights on the field the JV may play 1 game a week, but because of lights I know most JV teams in the 12th region can play 4 or 5 games a week. I know most people only watch Varsity but you have to remember those JV kids want to be out on that field also. They practice all year long and even though it may be cold the first month I guarantee you won't hear them complain!

It would seem that the favorites for Mr. Baseball would come from a list of the pre-season All-Americans and kids that have signed with Kentucky and Louisville. There are a couple others that don't fit that discription that will probably be considered like Matt Bowles from Bullitt East (Maxpreps preseason player of the year), Joe Fidanzo from Ballard (signed with Coastal Carolina) and Patrick Maronde from Lexington Catholic (walking on Coastal Carolina but the top senior from the previous state champion). If you are wondering Kentucky had three All Americans. From Louisville Slugger Corey Littrell (Trinity) was 1st team and Duran Elmore (Danville) was honorable mention. Not sure which group recognized Trevor Gott (Tates Creek) as an All-American, may have been Baseball America. As for kids who have signed to play for Louisville and Kentucky, and I'm not saying those kids are better than others it just seems they get the most pub. With Kentucky they signed Littrell, Gott, Witt (LCA) and Riddle (Western Hills) that I know of. For Louisville I'm not sure who all they signed other than Alphin. Here is a list of all the players mentioned above. Does anyone have any stats on these guys or have someone else they think should be in here? I know the thread for the Mr. Football got big and there was a lot of good information on all of those kids it would be nice to get that same type of thread going in here for baseball. Nice win, did Danville throw their ace?

I was wondering what grade the backup QB was in. I didn't have a program for the game and was watching both guys warm up because I was on that side of the field and just by watching warmups I honestly thought #11 was the starting QB. His throws seemed much tighter and he had nice touch. Now, don't get me wrong Looper was incredible. He threw 2 of the best passes I have ever seen at the high school level.

Great year and great career for from all accounts a great kid. Congratulations and best of luck with his future. Hayden had a great career. Has he committed anywhere? Also on the season rushing yards, Rees mcShara will also be in there with over 3,000 this year.

Was just looking over the schedule again and there are actually 11 games that day, not 9.

They are both good high school pitchers, but if the region is voted to be played throughout a 10 day period and Mercer can pitch Cinnamon all 3 games on adequate rest; they will. I think those 2 guys can get the job done but they aren't in the same class as Cinnamon, who may be the best pitcher in the region this year.

Somerset does have a good lineup 1-9 but offense is just part of the game. Danville and West will both field more experienced teams and I feel their pitching is far superior at this point. I don't think Somerset has anyone who can match Elmore or Sparrow from Danville or Lester, Sherrow, and Smallwood from West. And on top of those guys there are another 2 or 3 solid pitchers on both teams to provide ample depth. It will be interesting to see how the coaches vote on the regions because the format this year will dictate the favorites imo. For example I think Mercer may be a year away but if you spread the games out over a 1 1/2 weeks then Mercer becomes a favorite because they can run Cinnamon out there every game. Lincoln County could also pose some problems if they make the region and are able to run Weir out there multiple games. Though Danville and West could also benefit from getting to use Elmore and Lester/Sherrow multiple games.

I haven't gotten to see Littrell pitch but I hope to during the school year or summer. Riddle can throw hard but from my understanding he will not pitch at all at UK. He will be a middle infielder only. As for Gott, people have said he touched 95 during the summer. He has always been able to throw hard but I have always questioned how good of a "pitcher" he is because he has never really had to pitch. But when you throw low to mid '90's someone will pay to teach you how to do it. Mark Biggs in Bowling Green is also a very hard throwing righty that is well known on the summer circuit. I believe he is just a junior and has been clocked as high as 92 or so.

Anyone know Rees's final numbers for tonight? I know he scored the first 4 touchdowns but was wanting to know if he added another 1 or 2 after that and what his yardage was. Thanks.

Curtis Pulley also played both ways, he was a very good FS at Hopkinsville. He may not have played the entire season there but I know in the big games he was back there.

Other D-1 Quarterbacks that I know of are Dylan Curry (UL Committ) from Western Hills. I do believe they will be moving him to defense though when he gets on campus. Also Jacob Russel (Anderson County) has been getting D-1 looks from Purdue, UL and Ky among others. I think some teams also envision him at another position but some smaller D-1 schools like him as a QB.

Posted this in another thread but figured it would get seen more here in the prediction thread. Boyle County Jr. Lamar Dawson just picked up his 1st offer. He was offered a scholarship by UK yesterday morning. This will be the first of many, and as a UK fan I hope he stays home to help the Wildcats.
