12th Region

Featured Replies

I know Coach Shope is stacked with pitching at Mercer this season, who else will compete for the 12 region? West Jessamine? Danville?

Danville returns 7 of their 9 starters from last years championship team and should be very good again. West Jessamine returns 8 of their 9 starters from a team that was ranked very high all season in the polls. Somerset should also be good with 7 starters back from a team that lost to Danville in the finals last season.

A couple other teams that should be pretty good are East Jessamine, have a big group of seniors that have been starting for a few years now. Mercer Co. will also be tough for anyone in the state to beat when Cinnamon is on the mound.

Alot of talent in the 12th this year.

One more team that has alot of talent and will be in the mix come tournament time is McCreary Central.

Did West Jessamine lose that much? I think they will still be the thick of it.

Watts is as good as anyone in the 12th.

He played for the Danville Mustangs in the summer, and I watched him hit a few deep HR's. Very good player.

Watts should be a fun kid to watch this season. He may be one of those rare athletes that could play at the next level in two sports. (Baseball and Basketball)

Danville, West, Mercer and Mccreary will all be good, but i don't see anybody beating Somerset. Nobody is as solid 1-9 as them.

Danville and West both have as many starters back as Somerset and beat them last year. Somerset will be good, but I believe a little back of those two.

Somerset does have a good lineup 1-9 but offense is just part of the game. Danville and West will both field more experienced teams and I feel their pitching is far superior at this point. I don't think Somerset has anyone who can match Elmore or Sparrow from Danville or Lester, Sherrow, and Smallwood from West. And on top of those guys there are another 2 or 3 solid pitchers on both teams to provide ample depth.

It will be interesting to see how the coaches vote on the regions because the format this year will dictate the favorites imo. For example I think Mercer may be a year away but if you spread the games out over a 1 1/2 weeks then Mercer becomes a favorite because they can run Cinnamon out there every game. Lincoln County could also pose some problems if they make the region and are able to run Weir out there multiple games. Though Danville and West could also benefit from getting to use Elmore and Lester/Sherrow multiple games.

Danville and West are the class, but Mercer could surprise some people. They can run more than just Cinnamon to the mound. McRay and Honchel are both solid lefties.

They are both good high school pitchers, but if the region is voted to be played throughout a 10 day period and Mercer can pitch Cinnamon all 3 games on adequate rest; they will. I think those 2 guys can get the job done but they aren't in the same class as Cinnamon, who may be the best pitcher in the region this year.

Somerset also beat Danville with Elmore on the mound last year. The teams split their 2 meetings.

True, forgot about that one. Spears was almost not hittable that day. Heard he did well at Cleveland St. this Fall.

Keep in mind that Somerset had one senior that had an everyday starting position last year. The rest were under classmen and they still finished runner up in the region.
