12th Region

Featured Replies

Somerset will be good, but I still think they are a year away. They will for sure hit and score runs, I'm just not sold on their pitching.

Who is hosting the regional tournament this year?

Somerset does have a good lineup 1-9 but offense is just part of the game. Danville and West will both field more experienced teams and I feel their pitching is far superior at this point. I don't think Somerset has anyone who can match Elmore or Sparrow from Danville or Lester, Sherrow, and Smallwood from West. And on top of those guys there are another 2 or 3 solid pitchers on both teams to provide ample depth.

It will be interesting to see how the coaches vote on the regions because the format this year will dictate the favorites imo. For example I think Mercer may be a year away but if you spread the games out over a 1 1/2 weeks then Mercer becomes a favorite because they can run Cinnamon out there every game. Lincoln County could also pose some problems if they make the region and are able to run Weir out there multiple games. Though Danville and West could also benefit from getting to use Elmore and Lester/Sherrow multiple games.

The 12th Region should be a lot of fun to watch this year with several teams being very competitive and very capable of winning it all. Somerset, Danville, West Jessamine, Mercer and McCreary should contend as everyone agrees, but don’t forget about the Warriors of Southwestern. They’ll challenge McCreary for their district.

As for Somerset’s pitching staff, I think everyone will be very surprised in their depth. Alexander, Price and Henderlight will carry the load, with several other supporting cast members making for a solid staff. As for the statement about the Jumpers lineup (1-9), I’ll go a little further and say 1-12/13 is as good as anyone in the region. They’ll score lots of runs and their defense will hold teams to very few runs as well. As always, should be another great 12th Region baseball season!! Good luck to all the teams.

The Jumpers will have a lot of depth. They have some kids that would be starters on a lot of teams that will have to scrap to get playing time this season. They need one of their pitchers to step up a bit when matched up against some of the ace pitchers in the region. It should be a fun year.

I believe Ease Jessamine is hosting the district and region tournaments both this year.
