12th Region

Who will be the region favorites in 2011?

Going into the season you would have to put Mercer County and Somerset as the top 2 because of the experience they return. You also can never count out Danville and West because they have proven over the past several years they are always in the hunt. A couple darkhorses could be Pulaski, Southwestern and I even think Wayne could pull an upset or two.

I think you are pretty close. Based on what people return from last year I rate the top ones as:

Mercer

Somerset

Danville

West Jess.

And a bunch in the next group

If you go by the Pre-Season Coach's Poll it had West Jess. at 12, Mercer at 18, and Danville and Somerset with other receiving votes. Not sure if thats the way it will be at the end of the season.

I agree, I'm not too sure the region will end in the way the Coaches voted. This poll needs some work, I know one program that has at least 5-6 coaches that vote and several other schools that don't vote at all. Somerset returns 8 starters from last years team that won the most games in the schools history last season. Mercer returns one of the top pitchers in the region as well as 2 of the areas top hitters. Paul always has Danville ready to compete at the end of the year. My sleeper is Pulaski County, don't overlook them this year, they will beat you.

I heard Cinnamon is nursing a wrist injury suffered in basketball and has yet to do more than lob a ball. Something to keep an eye on.

I heard something a little different. I heard it was still his elbow that bothered him most of last season. Either way that could be a big problem for Mercer.

The voting for the top 25 changed this year. There is one coach per region who submits a top 20 and those votes are tallied to produce a top 25. I know the coaches send 4 or 5 teams from their region to all the other coaches to be considered. I agree I think there are still some problems with the pre-season top 25 but it is better than the past and once the season begins I think the top 25 will become much clear.

Wow. I know there has been concern coming from Mercer not only about this season but even his collegiate future as well but that is just talk. I got my info from a basketball/baseball player but it is still not info I would consider to be 100% solid. I am certain he has a wrist injury but with the way some have been talking I could see his elbow being an/the issue. I hope he can get back to 100% at some point. He is one heck of a pitcher.
