With the above as a backdrop how is this law constitutional? Is it based on the premise that the nickname is obscene? Or is the state banking on political pressure?

I can't speak to the other cities/schools, but there might be more SG folks who favor consolidation than you think. Last I saw SG had the highest tax rate in the commonwealth. And from what I hear they've cut it to the bone in terms of programs offered. Not a lot of bang for your buck.

A long, long time ago, I coached a 16U baseball team while I was in college. Aric Russel was on my team. He was a heck of a player, but even then, you could tell there was something special about that young man. He just got "it". I'm biased but when folks talk about the best coaches in NKY, they don't mention Coach Russell. He has taken two different teams, from two different regions to the state tournament. Dude. Can. Coach.

In response to b-ball, to me, it comes down to a simple proposition. Fairness trumps convenience.

If it was possible to do a "super like" of a post, this one would warrant it. Given the number of 5 team districts in the state, there is no excuse for a 3 team district. None. If you have to realign every year due to consolidation, etc., so be it.

Highlands' Field House opens today. HHS baseball will be conducting tryouts.

I am not aware of any mass exodus. If you can play, you'll play, and I cited many examples of boys who played over upperclassmen (although someone pointed out to me that Allen was in 2011). My point still stands.

Yes, as I sit here in Cleveland without having any clue how they are doing at tryouts, I think they have a chance. They looked the part in the 1 hour or so workout I watched. So, based on that short sample size, yes IMO (with emphasis on IMO) they have a chance. Now does that chance equate to 10%, 50%, 100%, I have no idea. You keep beating this drum about juniors leaving. You did it all the way back in May, and you were called out on it then. http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-baseball-high/highlands-6-ryle-278059-page2.html In short, if you can contribute, you play. If Juniors (or for that matter, any class) can contribute on the varsity, I believe (IMO) they'll play on the varsity. And, my opinion is solely based on what I've seen since 2012 where younger players have played over older ones. Moreover, not only do younger kids start over upperclassmen, starting out with the JV does not mean that a kid stays there. To that end, I can cite Allen in 2012, Ramey in 2013, and Raisor in 2014 as specific examples of kids who started on the JV at the beginning of the season who ended up playing key roles on the varsity. Heck, Beal did not spend a day on the varsity last year and ended up being the courtesy runner during the post-season (and did an outstanding job).

Schoepf and Orne are the two I saw at MM. Both are outfielders and have prior baseball experience. Schoepf last played in 8th grade on the frosh and JV team and summer ball for NKY Wildcats. Orne last played JV as a sophomore and plays summer ball for NKY Blue Devils. Both are athletes with baseball skills. They have game. Orne has pitched in the past as a side armed reliever. They both have a legitimate shot to make the team.

He umpired many games that I played. Always a professional, and you could tell he truly enjoyed his work. Then had the absolute pleasure to umpire many games with him. Helped me become better at the craft. RIP Donuts...

Agreed. He played with my son in summer ball back in 2013. Plays the game the right way and has a solid skill set.

Any discussion about top catchers in the 9th has to include Luke Hennigan from Highlands. The kid has been starting since 8th grade.

Lemons has solid blood lines. His pop and I played at SG back in the day. No matter what sport it was, the guy could play it and play it well.
