Donuts was an outstanding umpire in NKY for a long time. He passed away on Thursday at the age of 86 yrs old.

I've known Donuts and his family my whole life. Wonderful man that has done great things for many people and the city of Dayton. I remember going up to the Dayton Dairy Bar and seeing Donuts always sitting on his porch. He was an icon in Dayton and will be greatly missed. I pray for the Fuchs family. Heaven just gained an angel. Donuts and Curly team up again in heaven. Love those guys. Guarantee there is a card game going on in heaven:thumb:

Donuts was the football official when i scored my first touchdown at 8 years old. I remember looking up at him giving the signal.

I pray that he gets his signal when he sees St Peter.

Growing up and playing sports in Dayton and having cousins that ran with his kids gave me the opportunity to know him and his family pretty well. Great man! He will be missed. Prayers to the family.

He called a ton of games I pitched and he was more than fair. I always loved that slow turn to the side on a strike and just a gutteral steeeeeeeeeeeriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.....never finished the whole word.

 

Used to stick his cigarette in the backstop as well for in between innings. LOL

Great man. Great family. RIP.

He umpired many games that I played. Always a professional, and you could tell he truly enjoyed his work.

 

Then had the absolute pleasure to umpire many games with him. Helped me become better at the craft.

I also have many memories of Donuts. I remember the first time I met him - I was with my mother and when she introduced me I asked him "who names someone Donuts?" I was really confused, but he just laughed and I'm sure my mom was mortified. I never went to a mass or event at St. Bernard in which he wasn't either working the bar or sitting on his porch talking to everyone. Great man. Prayers to his great family!
