  1. Butler has been coaching the 7th grade boys basketball team at Highlands the past couple of years. Through the AAU circuit I know he pushed his players to the limit and his NKY Gold teams we're very sucessful in doing so.
  2. what channel is this game going to be televised on?
  3. The Wildcats made it interesting after being down by 15 at halftime. Darnell had a magnificant career at Newport and hopefully he decides to take his game to the next level. He was like the Wildcat's glue and you could tell there was a completely different team out there when he was in foul trouble. Keep your head up Dave you played great and it has been a joy watching you play since your early days at Mildred Dean. As for Highlands I will be pulling for you Saturday against the Breds. Lother really does a great job at keeping the Birds in control.
  4. Isn't Ferguson from Lawrence North where both Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr attended high school? I was impressed with Ferguson's showing in a televised ESPN game earlier this year and expect big things out of him.
  5. As shown in last weeks victory for the Wildcats over Brossart they can play in a half court setting. Typically they would much rather get the ball out and score as many fast break points as possible. I look for this to be a hard fought battle by both teams. Monday was a wake up call for the Wildcats look for them to come out with some intensity and upset the Birds by 3.
  6. A lot of people know what happened was that Dayton almost knocked off Newport. They showed a lot of heart and tenacity but in basketball almost doesn't count. The Cats did what they were supposed to do they survived and advanced.
  7. I was in fact at the game and the better team will be playing tomorrow against Highlands. This is definitely a wake up call for the Cats they'll be prepared come gametime tomorrow.
  8. Disagree one play doesn't make or break a game. The several references to the "goaltend" are what I would consider excuses. Newport pulled out the win and that is all that matters. A few plays either way and the outcome could be completely different however Newport is the better team and got the win.
  9. Newport better not play like they did last night or Highlands is going to blow them out of the water. If Dayton was the better team all night long then the scoreboard would have them victorious. No disrespect to the Green devil fans your boys played their hearts out and should have a lot to look forward to next year. As for the Cats put this one behind you and get ready for the Birds on Wednesday.
  10. Don't forget the Ladycats that district tournament they also upset NCC before the upset of Highlands. I look for a similar situation to occur this year by knocking off Highlands to get to the championship. Darnell is a senior and is ready to put these Wildcats on his back.
  11. I thought strongly that Morrison and Redick would struggle in the pros unless they found a perfect fit on a team. Neither has found it yet but I think this will be a good move for Morrison.
  12. My current favorite dunker would have to be Gerald Henderson. He has hops out of this world and really throws it down. James White and Melvin Levitt had some nasty dunks in their tenure at Cincinnati.
  13. The Dayton score is misleading Newport was without Cody Collins and Jamon Greene for this game. Darnell looked tough on the inside with 31 points. I'm going to go with my Cats by 6 at home tonight.
  14. The Breds sure deserved this win. The breakdown of Newport's defense was constant and resulted in Giesler on the inside getting several easy baskets. I'm proud of my boys and to be a Newport alumni tonight, Good luck to NCC down state you guys deserved it.
  15. Yes it is. The Beechwood game was the opening game of the tourney on Monday. I believe the game tomorrow is at 6 followed by a tough matchup between St Henry and NCC.
  16. They beat Beechwood on Monday night and Heritage on Tuesday. They shouldn't have any trouble with Dayton tomorrow and will move on to the championship on Saturday.
  17. Newport by at least 15. Dayton doesn't have an answer for the athleticism of Newport it will give them fits all night.
  18. Heritage (2-6) - Schroer 8 0 19, R. St. Blancard 10 4 25, Brunner 2 0 4, Bonner 1 0 2, J. St. Blancard 5 1 11, Fessler 1 0 2. Totals 27 5 63. Newport (9-9) - Tucker 6 3 17, Luther 1 1 3, McDaniel 3 4 10, Greene 8 3 20, Darnell 12 1 25, Collins 1 0 2. Totals 31 12 77.
  19. The officiating was completely atrocious you cannot say that Newport got all the calls. At one point in the second half the foul situation was 8 to 2. The technical was just a ridiculous call from my point of view. Newport overcame this and had more heart than Beechwood did and that is why they came out victorious.
