NewCath 53 Newport 47

Featured Replies

Newport had cut it to 3 or 4 with about a minute or so to play. NewCath made huge free throws down the stretch.

Jake Geisler, Jake Olberding, made the all-tourney team and Matt Geisler was the tourney MVP.

Brandon Tucker and David Darnell made the all-tournament team from Newport.

Way to go Breds!!!

Tucker played his heart out tonight - I was proud that he came out of this tournament with something. Good hard fought game and a good win for the Breds. Newport looked impressive with the Tucker, Darnell, Collins, McDaniels and Luther as the starting five but fell a little short - great effort.

Very good game. Newport tried to make a run late, but NCC was not about to let this one slip away. Great to see NCC clicking. Good Luck with the rest of the tournament.

Great game! Congrats to Matt Geisler tourney MVP Jake Geisler and Jake Olberding all tourney.

Very physical game by both teams Pangallo handled the pressure well Connor's defense was spectaculer and hit 4 huge free throws in the final minute!

Darnell is a tough player!!!!

Good luck in the state touney Breds you earned it!!!

The Breds sure deserved this win. The breakdown of Newport's defense was constant and resulted in Giesler on the inside getting several easy baskets. I'm proud of my boys and to be a Newport alumni tonight, Good luck to NCC down state you guys deserved it.

Great game. Great Hustle. Great Sportsmanship by both teams. Just a well played and well coached game by both teams. Both teams are going to be a tough out come District time. Very impressed with Darnells range. Also Jake O

is as solid a role player as their is. Defensively done some nice things. Jeramie Conner was great off the bench.

What other players made the all tourney team this year?

Cody Turner Dayton

Mikey Young Bellevue

Schuh Villa

JM Schroer Heritage

Sullivan HC

Cameron Speed SHDS

Kyle Williamson Ludlow

Not sure about Beechwood and Lloyds Representative. Not meaning to leave anyone out as the PA announcer did for the Dayton kid. Probably just an oversight but not good for the kid who had probably 10 to 15 family and friends there to watch him be honored.

From kypost.com:

Holy Cross – Eric Sullivan.

Bellevue – Mike Young.

Lloyd – Randy Tackett.

As in lots of hard fought games such as this one, it's a shame to see anyone lose. Although I was leaning towards wanting to see some new blood take the All 'A' this time around, I can be content with NewCath representing the 9th Region in Richmond. I've always enjoyed seeing the Breds succeed and like the type of disciplined teams they always bring to the court. They're pretty relentless with their winning attitude and they always play 32 full minutes of tenacious basketball. I have to admit that after watching the Holmes game earlier in the day and their style of pushing the ball and attacking the basket the entire game, it's a bit hard to watch NewCath mix into their game plan many minutes of clock eating.

Truth is, it really works for them to get the 'W', but good God it's painful to watch. I guess when you're soulfully rooting for them it's easier to swallow. I was hoping for better results from the Wildcats and kudos to them for hanging in there strong to keep it interesting until the last 1/2 minute or so, but I think one main difference in the game was that they looked tired and defeated by the 2nd quarter (after looking pretty good in the 1st, and finishing it up ahead by 1), sitting Luther down too soon, had issues with getting their stride and confidence back, lots of bad luck with close in-and-out shots, because of NewCath's clock-eating, they rushed a lot of their shots and lost their patience for making better shot selections.

A bit too rusty from the foul line which might've made all the difference in the world. I hate to knock them because of the pressure they fell under, but early on I felt like I personally wanted to call a time out just to convince them that against NewCath there's really no time to lapse and get down on themselves. That 2nd quarter really turned out to be the difference, but ultimately Newport can be proud of themselves for pulling themselves up and finishing with the best effort they could possibly muster under the circumstances, and they should never forget what an awesome 4 quarters they put together against a real tough Beechwood team that merely propelled them into the nice prestigious spot of the All 'A' Championship game.

Yeah, I would've liked to have seen better results, but one thing the team needs to know is that in the giant line outside before the game, there were lots of Newport fans who were thrilled to death to be waiting in the cold to get in to see their beloved Wildcats, and were obviously filled with good ol goose bumps to be able to relive some good ol days of filling to capacity their home gymnasium to take on their long time crosstown rivals. Win or lose you seriously made a lot of your fans very proud and happy. So ultimately, you really didn't lose at all. Good luck come districts, 'cause, there again you have a chance to give your next possible meeting with the Breds a full 32 minutes and then who knows???....... and to the Breds...Congratulations... and good luck down in Richmond. I have no doubt that you will represent the 9th Region with great pride and effort :thumb:

Nice win NCC :thumb:

Great game by both teams, and good luck.

Sounded like from the paper that McDaniels tried to will the Cats to victory at the end. Nice effort by the Cats but the best team is representing the 9th in this case. Go down and win the darn thing NCC.

JaKe Geisler by the way will be a dominating big man by the time he is a senior.

First time seeing him last night. He seemed to play stiff in IMO.Wasnt to impressed. Can he step out and hit the elbow jumper? Was it just me seeing this? Big game jitters or Youth maybe? Youre right could be a load by senior season.
