They need to run the ball more. I think throwing the ball around alot when you are out in the county works but when you get into the playoffs and find that other schools are a lot more athletic then slinging it around 30-40 times a game isn't going to put them in a position to beat Louisville Central. I do like their schemes though it appeared to be somewhat productive but they really should shoot for atleast 20 rushing attempts a game because when they did run the ball it seemed like they had success with the big guy running the ball just didn't do it enough

Well it should be interesting to say the least. I hope he has some good support from the administration (A.D. & Principle). I thought that he was doing a good job of changing the attitude of the kids at Shawnee. Hopefully he has learned from the experience and realizes that a Schnellenberger mentality will not work in Jefferson County. I hope he also realizes that lining up in spread and throwing the ball every play also is not going to work in Jefferson County. They have some pretty good backs returning at Western so I hope that he utilizes them Good Luck coach

Any word on what type of system they will run. I always liked their system just felt like thy never had the athletes to overcome their schedule.

Well Rock it sounds as if you have the scoop so give us the unofficial name of the candidate they chose. Give us the 5 or 6 names that interviewed and aloow us to at least speculate on who it is going to be

Any word on who the next coach at Western High in Louisville is going to be. I heard that they completed the interviews.

What's the difference between this and Mitch Barhardt hiring a consulting firm to help find a coach. UK isn't the only one that has done it lots of Universities hire firms to find the most qualified peersons. I would prefer if nobody in the building has the experience to know what to listen for and what are signs that this person might not know enough about coaching to be succesful. Most interviews are more about getting a feel for the applicant as a person more than they are about x's and o's. You are very fortunate in KY if you are able to form a committee heavy in x and o people. The fact that he is a mentor of the principle and someone she trust takes precident over the fact that he works at another school. I am sure that he consulted with his coach and principle before he committed to it. What's worse having a friend that knows football despite working for the competition on the committee or having the head of the science department who a punt from a fumble

Any word on if it is a tournament and if so what other teams will be there or is just a Trinity vs Highlands thing. If so that's a long way to go for 7 on 7

Does that mean that they have teams and just didn't compete as part of the KHSAA or do they not have football teams at all?

Since Shawnee is on there I would assume this is an updated schedule and if so it would appear that JC has a lot of work to do to complete this years schedule.

From reading a previous thread I believe at this time last year they both were looking for a game. JC agreed to pay LC a lump some to come their last year with a gentlemens agreement that if both were unable to find a game that JC would return the trip. I am not sure if Scroggins was their yet or if he even has control over the schedule but someone dropped the ball in taking it for granted that JC was going to return the trip. They should have required the 2 year deal with a buyout clause even if it was just $100. That being said from my readings of the other thread LC didn't here from JC that they were not going to return the game until some time in March and at that time could not give the team that they had screatched LC for. The folks at JC should have let LC know that they had no intentions of returning the game shortly after they played or at the latest the week after they saw what they did to Belfry. Word is no one in the ville wants to play LC other than the 6A big boys so there is no way that I buy LC wanted to back out of a potential home game with a top 10 5A opponent. It's seems just as clear that JC would rather beat up on a Lou. Shawnee rather that take their chances with LC. Nothing against JC but I will be pulling for Shawnee.:argue:

Why put them on the smae side. I think that they both beat some pretty good teams to get to the final. Based on the game they played last year it would have been a shame to of had to go to eithers stadium and watch that game a week or two earlier. Besides the game at PJCS had like 15000 fans at it. I am not 100% certain but I think the second highest total was the Lou. Central/Belfry game at like 8000. At $8 a ticket that is a lot of green we are asking the KHSAA to pass on.

Let me start with this disclainer "I am a football fan regardless of how the district playoffs are set but watching how the first couple of rounds played out there were very few I think only like 3 where the top seeded team in the first round lost to the lower seed. Not to say that this years results will be any different but I think that it is more exciting for the kids and coaches to prepare for someone new rather than for the team that 2-3 weeks ago they drummed or 2-3 weeks ago got drummed. Two examples John Hardin in 5A and Lou. Central in 3A. Tell me those first round teams would have rather played them than someone else in the first round of the playoffs. The playoffs are watered down due to so many teams making it so what does it matter. When you have 2 really good teams in the same district it hurts them because one is never going to play a third game. Last but not least the attendance in the first 2 rounds sucked because so many took it for granted that the team that won the regular season match up was going to win the playoff game atleast in Jefferson county not sure about out in the state. Attendance should be up because in most cases the teams will not have already played and when the teams from the same district meet in the 3rd round attendance should be up because the real high school football fans team may have already been knocked out and they go see a game they otherwise would not.

Disappointing if true. I think the fact that Central had their way with Belfry scared JC. I think that Lou. Central used that JC game to fix the issues they had with JC''s double tight & wishbone formations. In my opinion JC needed the game on this years schedule more than Lou. Central did. Not sure who they have to replace JC but they will play Manual, Male, Highlands, St. X and what should be an improved Bullitt East team. Where is JC going to see the speed that a Lou. Central is going to put on display. Maybe the fact that they have like 8 starters returning scared JC off. Not sure how much better Shawnee will be but not sure what benefit JC will get out of driving 4 hours to push around a weak Shawnee team. Starters will probably not play in the second half unless their coach is trying to run up the score.

I will go out on a limb and say that the state with the most D1 schools are going to have the largest number of kids signed if for no other reason that if 2 kids have the same evaluation and schools can only take one they are going to go with the in state kid because his tuition and recruiting expense is going to be cheaper. Which explains why most walk-ons are in state kids and not out of state kids If I were conducting the study I would make it which BCS schools did each state produce. I would also do a yearly breakdown of the past 3 years and then a 3 or 4 year total. I would veture to say that simply because states like Florida, California and Texas have the largest population in addition to the most D1 schools that those numbers would be pretty high for those states. Because those a fertile recruiting areas then the state schools in those states are going to be represented by state kids.

It's college coaches job to project where a player will fit in their system regardless of what position they play in high school. For example Kerry Rhodes was a QB in college but JLS saw him as a safety. There are a lot of high school safeties that grow into LBers and LBers that grow into DE's etc. If a kid has the size and athletic ability it doesn't matter what position a kid plays. Plus Highlands has enough good kids that they don't have to play kids out of position because if he is their best LB but also their best safety then the coaches are blessed with enough depth to play him at the position that he has the most potential and to find another kid to fill the other spot. Having seen them play I am not sure they have many kids that they make play out of position because they don't have anybody else that is good. Just my opinion though

I beg to differ. Trinity has a pretty good unit led by Jordan Whting. Not sure the names of the other 2 guys but he elevates that unit regardless. I think the top 2 units in the state are Beechwood and Louisville Central. For a small school Beechwood has some guys with some great size and pretty good athletic ability in Brady Slusher 6'2/210, Joe Daniels 6'3/205 and Neico Teipel 6'2/200 not sure if their ability translates into D1 scholarships but they have the frames to develope. I have to give the best LB core distinction to Louisville Centrals' Ridge Wilson 6'4/210 William Lanecaster 5'11/195 and Tim Patterson 6'4/215. I heard that several Big 10 and SEC schools are walking the halls of Central in pursuit of these guys. I think, of the three, Tim Patterson has the biggest star potential; becasue he is still growing and will be at least 6'5/225 before he graduates. He is going to be a Jr. next season and just turned 16 in March. He reminds me of the former MLB for North Carolina (K. Mays) when they had one of the top defenses in the nation. Ridge Wilson is the unquestioned leader and will be able to play either OLB spot in college. He has a nose for the ball and makes plays all over the field. He reminds me of former U of L LB Terry Rice-Locket. He will hit you and has the speed to run down backs from the weakside and looks like he will develop his frame to be able to play at 235 pounds once he gets into a college weight program. William Lanecaster is the most athletic and can play safety, receiver, or tailback. He will probably end up going to a historically black college as a punter. Thats right, punter. As good of an athlete as he is, he probably has the most potential as a punter. I think he averaged something like 40 yards per punt, and ran for several first downs on punt fakes. I would love to see some insight on some other LB units, rather than just names and speculation that they are D1 talents; because realistically there may be 5-6 D1 linebackers in the whole state.

Had a chance to see the highlight film from Louisville Central and WOW. They lost their top 5 backs but with the exception of the 2 defensive ends and a part time starter. The biggest lost will probably be that little corner Bell. The kid is probably 2" taller than my 8 year old daughter. That being said they are definately going to compete for the top defense in the state. The name Mister Cobble speaks for it's self. The strength of that defense will be the linebacking core of Ridge Wilson, William Lanecaster, and Tim Patterson. All will be on the all state radar next season. The defensive coordinator/linebackers coach is former UofL star Terry Rice-Locket and he does a great job of putting these guys in position to showcase their talents. I was a spring practive prior to spring break and their defense looked more like a basketball team. They had to of had 5-6 guys on that first unit that looked 6'4 - 6'5.

I know that the Unseld kid out at Doss when healthy is a BEAST. Despite his small frame he has become a really good QB. I would have loved to of seen what he would have looked like with another year running that pro set triple option that Coach Scroggins (now at Louisville Central) ran over there. Heaven forbid what he would have looked like on that LC team. If I am not mistaken there are a couple of pretty good receivers returning for Doss also. Cameron Clemens and another guy don't know his name. Maybe Maalik Dalton.

Louisville Central played up in every game other than district games and lost to X, Male, FTH, Johnson Central and Manual. They were in every game except the JC game which was after a 4 hour bus ride. Had they lost 2 Belfry and not have a ring as a reward for that schedule would it be fair to say that they were poorly coached? I just think that from the outside statements demeaning a coaches efforts shouldn't be made. Praise the positives not shine light on the negative but. I guess when it comes to anything other than Highlands football we should all see the glass as half empty rather than half full.

I think some of the assistants that have been at East will stay but the scheme will probably change some because if I am not mistaken Preston was his own offensive coordinator at Western and he is taking the Defensive Coordinator from last leason with him to East. Not sure of his name but I believe it is more of a 5-2 and in some cases bringing that SS down to make it a 5-3. Lots of cover 3 and man. Not sure how that will play with the DB's that they will have at East compared to the athletic DB's they had at Western

So the fact that X, Male and Manual don't win state championships year after year mean that they have a lack of quality leadership at the top? Trotwood may just have a bad game at the wrong time or get out game planned by an excellent staff at another school. That doesn't mean that they are poorly coached. Most kids that are poorly coached don't get schools like Michigan walking around their building. What does it say about society when a man that developes and graduates his players and ultimately gets them BCS scholarships is being bashed and labeled a bad coach. Yes Highlands has the Champioships but how many kids in the last 5 years are contributing on BCS teams. Evidently the administration at Trotwood are satisfied with the coach or he wouldn't still be there. Lastly Colrain in Ohio has had something like 17 guys go D1 that last couple of years and I wouldn't say that they are poorly coached despite not winning State every year.
