How a team with such talent did not win the Div II state championship is still amazing to me. I know that a team must play as a team, but geezil petes, that's a whole lot of talent to overcome.

Turpin, the team that knocked Trotwood out of the playoffs, was a good team and had a very controverial call go against them in their next round loss to eventual state champ Anderson.

katbird Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I know Turpin has Andy Kruse a WR who is going to Miami of Ohio.They also have a big offensive tackle going to play at Virginia. I think they have a LB that is going to Ohio U to be a Bobcat..

Bear65 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I was talking to an Ohio State assistant last year and made the comment that Maurice Douglas will be a college coach as soon as HE chooses. He said that Maurice does as good a job as anyone in Ohio coaching. Maurice chooses to stay because he wants to help his alma-mater. He wanted to give back to his high school. I was not at the game that they lost, but I doubt if it was bad coaching. Everytime I go to a combine or college one day camp, Maurice is there with some of his kids. Very dedicated to helping his players. I saw him today at the Nike combine in columbus. He was timing the forty yard dash.

tdyballgame Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 With the players Trotwood had last year, no way HHS should have beaten them. Luckily for Trotwood, they woke up after the realized HHS was for real. The game was on the way to being a blow out. The reasons HHS won were simple. Coaching, talent, and most of all, the desire to win and win as a "TEAM". Plain and simple. Don't want to offend anyone from Trotwood, but the kids from T just didn't want that win like the kids from HHS. The T kids were too into themselves apparently and thought just because they were being told how great they were, I think they thought it would be easy. And the kids from HHS, very talented and very dedicated to winning and winning as a "team" and it proved to be so that day. I think that if you lok at all the signees over the last 5 or 6 years at Trotwood, you would be amazed at how much talent is up there. Not sure why they don't win a State Championship, wait, yes I do know why and I think everyone else does too. Good luck to T's signees. They will find out soon that there are another 100 or so players as good as they are when they show up for their first practice so they better be ready.

I'm with LN on this one... if an Ohio D-II team has this kind of talent, then something strange must be going on for that team not to be a major contender for the state title. And it seems that T-M was definitely not a major contender last year, as they only won one game in the 2007 postseason. Could someone please tell me what kind of community Trotwood-Madison is? I wonder what kind of community support T-M has? Also, how big was T-M's fan turnout at the Herbie against HHS last year? Interestingly, there is a big prep football event going on in Texas this year (unofficially referred to as the "Texas Herbie") which features quality out-of-state teams playing quality Texas teams, and Trotwood-Madison has been invited to participate (along with Cincy LaSalle, the only two Ohio teams to be invited). No KY teams will be playing in this event.

87Bird Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 First..CONGRATS to those young men from Trotwood. A great time for a social/coaching experiment. I would be interested to see what would happen if HHS and Trotwood would "swap" coaching staffs. Guys, until you walk a mile in the other person's shoes, I wouldn't start talking about them. Raiderbird, tell me more about the make-up of the Trotwood team. Tell me about the parents/fans that have the luxury of stepping out of work early to watch practice and support. How about the kids that have the luxury of not having to have a job in the summer and thus can devote the ENTIRE summer to football. I would encourage all of the coaching naysayers to adopt another team for a year. (if you have a child playing at HHS, please ignore until your child/children have graduated) Get involved and get active. You'll quickly find out that 1) There is no place like HHS (good and bad) 2) There is more "high school" talent walking the halls at HHS than anyone wants to admit. These kids are GOOD! If it was only as easy as saying coaching. I've stepped out and coached at a school with a 2nd year football program that had kids participating from all over the county and from all socio-economic backgrounds. Even after those 1st couple of rough years, it was never going to be, and never could be, like HHS. The dynamics make Ft. Thomas unique. If all of the young men from Trotwood are eligible as freshman, then I would say this coach has done a FANTASTIC job. It's about WAY more than State Championships for alot of kids (and parents/fans) Just my .02 worth.
