First..CONGRATS to those young men from Trotwood.

 

A great time for a social/coaching experiment.

 

I would be interested to see what would happen if HHS and Trotwood would "swap" coaching staffs.

 

Guys, until you walk a mile in the other person's shoes, I wouldn't start talking about them.

 

Raiderbird, tell me more about the make-up of the Trotwood team. Tell me about the parents/fans that have the luxury of stepping out of work early to watch practice and support. How about the kids that have the luxury of not having to have a job in the summer and thus can devote the ENTIRE summer to football.

 

I would encourage all of the coaching naysayers to adopt another team for a year. (if you have a child playing at HHS, please ignore until your child/children have graduated) Get involved and get active. You'll quickly find out that

1) There is no place like HHS (good and bad)

2) There is more "high school" talent walking the halls at HHS than anyone wants to admit. These kids are GOOD!

 

If it was only as easy as saying coaching. I've stepped out and coached at a school with a 2nd year football program that had kids participating from all over the county and from all socio-economic backgrounds. Even after those 1st couple of rough years, it was never going to be, and never could be, like HHS. The dynamics make Ft. Thomas unique.

 

If all of the young men from Trotwood are eligible as freshman, then I would say this coach has done a FANTASTIC job. It's about WAY more than State Championships for alot of kids (and parents/fans)

I agree, poor coaches usually don't have that much talent out and especially does not get them signed into college and eligible. HHS fans need to realize how lucky you are. I don't claim to know everything about the program at Highlands but you guys have a unique situation.

First off 87 I have no idea what goes on at Trotwood and neither do you..I am just going off what I have seen with my own eyes. So what your telling me is that every school that wins has to be like Ft. Thomas. I don't think so...When you have that much talent year in and year out and you don't win.This tells me that there is a lack of leadership and dedication at the top. I would think this would be the head coaches responsability to dictate how the program was to be run..Obviously things aren't getting done very well up at Trotwood..JMO...:thumb: I guess we'll have to agree to disagree..

Getting 12 kids signed to D1 scholly's is an OUTSTANDING job by the TM coaches !!

So the fact that X, Male and Manual don't win state championships year after year mean that they have a lack of quality leadership at the top? Trotwood may just have a bad game at the wrong time or get out game planned by an excellent staff at another school. That doesn't mean that they are poorly coached. Most kids that are poorly coached don't get schools like Michigan walking around their building. What does it say about society when a man that developes and graduates his players and ultimately gets them BCS scholarships is being bashed and labeled a bad coach. Yes Highlands has the Champioships but how many kids in the last 5 years are contributing on BCS teams. Evidently the administration at Trotwood are satisfied with the coach or he wouldn't still be there. Lastly Colrain in Ohio has had something like 17 guys go D1 that last couple of years and I wouldn't say that they are poorly coached despite not winning State every year.

I'm not saying state championships.....A team with that many D1 athletes should not lose 4 and 5 games a year......period!!!! The coaches at Trotwood do a great job of promoting their athletes no doubt. They do a terrible job of winning football games!!!! Male,X,and T haven't had that many D1 kids combined..I don't know why people keep sticking up for coaches that don't get the job done on the football field winning games????:confused::confused:You just confirmed my point with the Highlands comment...

Louisville Central played up in every game other than district games and lost to X, Male, FTH, Johnson Central and Manual. They were in every game except the JC game which was after a 4 hour bus ride. Had they lost 2 Belfry and not have a ring as a reward for that schedule would it be fair to say that they were poorly coached? I just think that from the outside statements demeaning a coaches efforts shouldn't be made. Praise the positives not shine light on the negative but. I guess when it comes to anything other than Highlands football we should all see the glass as half empty rather than half full.

Your not? Great community, great fans, great kids, great tradition, many generations of state champs. Great facilities, good coaching. I would say that is pretty lucky. Just me though.:sssh:

I agree with all of the above. However I don't agree that luck is the reason it is that way in Ft. Thomas. JMO

I was talking to an Ohio State assistant last year and made the comment that Maurice Douglas will be a college coach as soon as HE chooses. He said that Maurice does as good a job as anyone in Ohio coaching. Maurice chooses to stay because he wants to help his alma-mater. He wanted to give back to his high school.

I was not at the game that they lost, but I doubt if it was bad coaching. Everytime I go to a combine or college one day camp, Maurice is there with some of his kids. Very dedicated to helping his players. I saw him today at the Nike combine in columbus. He was timing the forty yard dash.

 

I've heard a lot of the same things about Douglas. Very, very admirable of him to be so committed to his school and the kids. Regardless of what people feel about TM's coaching last year, you sure cannot criticize Douglas' drive to gets his kids college scholarships. The only "issue" I might have is whether the drive to get kids scholarships gets in front of what is best for the program. I'm not saying that's the case, but it does happen.
