Next Coach at Western?

Featured Replies

Any word on who the next coach at Western High in Louisville is going to be. I heard that they completed the interviews.

Western has selected a head coach, however it's not official until JCPS approval. The necessary paperwork has been sent to the Board; their meeting was last night. Should be made official either today or tomorrow.

Well Rock it sounds as if you have the scoop so give us the unofficial name of the candidate they chose. Give us the 5 or 6 names that interviewed and aloow us to at least speculate on who it is going to be

A little bird told me that they selected Lavel Boyd, former coach at Shawanee.....:ylsuper:

Really, best of luck to him if they did. Wonder who all applied for Western?

It was made official this afternoon.

Sorry bounty, wasn't trying to be a jerk, just respecting the man's wishes that it not be posted until it was official.

As far as interviewees, there were 4 or 5, one an assistant from Shawnee (Nelson?); don't know who the others were.

Has he been introduced to the team? Someone said it was made official. Who or where was it made official? Was it in the newspaper or something? Just curious. Good luck to the new coach. :thumb:

It was made official yesterday (Tuesday) and will probably be in the HS report in Friday's CJ. He was supposed to meet with the players today; haven't spoken to him today, but that was the plan.

Well it should be interesting to say the least. I hope he has some good support from the administration (A.D. & Principle). I thought that he was doing a good job of changing the attitude of the kids at Shawnee. Hopefully he has learned from the experience and realizes that a Schnellenberger mentality will not work in Jefferson County. I hope he also realizes that lining up in spread and throwing the ball every play also is not going to work in Jefferson County. They have some pretty good backs returning at Western so I hope that he utilizes them Good Luck coach

I spoke with LaVell this morning. The current principal is retiring, but the 2 remaining Asst. Principals are VERY committed to the rebirth of the sports programs, specifically football. They got a scoreboard and bleachers over the off-season and had Bermuda grass installed on the game field.

LaVell played under the Petrinos, and had a lot of their offensive philsophy. He also learned under Chan Gailey while his short stay in the NFL. He says they will run from the spread more than pass because of the wealth of RB's.

Is this true???
