With the cold weather, this has the making a a classic game. I can't wait for game time, the stands filled with fans bundled up agains the cold, players on the field steam coming out of the helmets. Snow on the ground, Dang It!!! This has the ingrediants of a Old NFL Films production. With the cold it may come down to who is the most mentally tough, brutal cold, possible flurries, not many kids get the opportunity to play in a game like this. One part of me would like to out on the field but the old man in me is glad I will be in the stands with coveralls, gloves, boots, wool socks and anything else I can think of to stay warm.

I think it could have an effect on kid who only plays one way, a running back who gets warm and then has to sit for several minutes while the defense is on the field could have some troubles, getting loose then getting tight sitting there, hamstriings come to mind. Might be a good time to be going both ways this week????

Letcher is tough place to play. They have one of (if not THE) nicest facilities around, but it is long trip to get there, I mean you have to be going there, you can't get lost and end up there. Letcher is just a tough place to play. Letcher +3

Nope, no smoke about it....or mirrors. Although I would say some prayers have been answered. After taking a whole season and one playoff game I think that the Colonels are finally convincing fans locally and state wide that this team can play some football. Jim Black and his staff have taken a 2-9 team and through hard work and dedication by the kids and staff, have restored the pride in the program. Whitley County will only lose seven seniors (although all start and play most every down) this year, they could be just as good or better next year. Against the Cardinals the Colonels were focused and frenzied at the same time. Bowling had no time to throw and when he did his recievers were covered. On a screen play he had maybe 8-10 seconds to throw, he could not find a receiver open and had to throw it out of bounds. Whitley covered every receiver and held contain. This game was pretty much over after Whitley scored their second TD on their first offensive possesion. South had no answer on how to stop the Colonels rushing attack. Jones, Powers and Wynn ran the ball at will, and Lebanion never had to carry the ball, and only threw it 4 times. Bowling is a excellant QB, and should find a place to play at the next level. He has a great pocket presence and knows when to just throw one away which saved him 6 or 7 other sacks besides the four he had. Good Luck Colonels as you move on to the second round!!

I agree also with you, it also gives teams more practice time, which helps the kids develop. If you go to the third round of the playoffs, that is three weeks of extra practice, thus over a 4 year period you get 12 weeks of extra practice, which makes your team better. Congrats Hounds on a nice victory.

Brian Lawson does coach and teach at Whitley County, I think he coaches receivers and the QBs. He played at Whitley and Cumberlands. He is the younger brother of Bob Lawson who coaches at Henderson County. They have a younger brother who played at Corbin and plays at Cumberlands now. If you hire Bob Lawson you would have two built in coaches right there. Both of the older Lawson boys were studs at Whitley.

I know that South is a good football team and they have some great athletes but still no respect for the Colonels?:fight: Whitley has played some of the best quarterbacks in the state, and lived to tell about it, in fact when Zack Lewis came into the game with only 5 INTs Whitley took 2 from him.

That sound about right. Williamsburg finds a way to get under Lynn Camp's skin even when they are not playing. Paul Rains, the Head Coach at LCA is a Williamsburg Alumni and vetern of several LC/WB clashes. What a small world it is.

Just curious... Has a winless team ever won their first game in the playoffs? I agree if you don't have a single win, much less a district victory you should not be in the playoffs. Back in the 80's the KHSAA had sub districts and district and so on, there was no way a winless team could get in back then.

How about Whitley County Magic? Corbin Whitley Williamsburg All of the teams in one county could be in Louisville.

Williamsburg and Corbin my have the easiest road of the teams mentioned but stranger things have happened. Good luck to all the mountian teams.

I think that the Woodford coach said best after last weeks game verses Whitley, he said that Whitley had just showed everyone a blueprint of how to stop them. Looks like Meade County followed that blue print down to the zero.

Tradition made no difference in this game, some had said that Rockcastle on the Jersey was enough to win the game but there was too much Jones, Powers and Lebanion for Whitley and when those boys see Whitley on there jersey it means something to them, too tradition or not. It was a tremendous effort from both teams and will help there both in the playoffs. Jim Black did a great job with the defense, and Bobby Gibbs did a fantastic job calling the offense in the second half, which he set up with the first half play calling. What a great way to celebrate Senior Night for the 7 leaders of the Band of Brothers.

You are right......Tradition is very important in any program. But so is talant, desire and spped.

Whitley County has a nice defense too, Look for fireworks.
