  1. With the knowlege that you posses tell me how programs like Monroe and Green have come out of no where. It was just 4 years ago that Green County was I think 1-19 or 2-28, and now all of a sudden it is Green and Monroe in a second regional championship. It just does not make any sense for these teams to beat Bardstown and Danville every year. What is your thought. Just a Fan
  2. Just suprised to see how balanced 2A is and the level of competition that exist in Region 4. I do not know where there is more consistency from top to bottom. Appears a lot good players as well as coaches exist in this region because of the consistency. HERSAY you seem to know more than anyone on the board about the programs and the coaches at these schools what do you think.
  3. Glasgow is a progam that has a storied passed with both players and coaches, much like Kentucky Basketball (see the problem) Some say this would be a good fit or that would be a good fit. Look at Monroe, Metcalfe, and Green all 3 have won very consistently in the 2000's. Green was down a couple of years, but still have about 76% winning percentage. All 3 have coaches that played and now coach for their schools (Pride) makes a difference. If my history serves me right this would be only the 2nd time that glasgow has gone outside if the hire Wood successful at his school Edmonson. Give the young guy a chance if he wants stay within he will be okay.
  4. Only 5 teams on that schedule went over 500 last year. 2 of the teams won less than 3 games. Looks pretty weak other tan Marion, Bullit East, John Hardin, Greenwood, and Meade. Everybody else they should beat and name the score. Bardstown and North will be young, but the other teams are not good football progrms.
  5. Reputation cannot be built on what you are going to do. Once again good Luck!!!!!
  6. Not to discredit the program, but Mark Brown was Nelson County football, before him they were about where they are now. Mark was a great coach at Marion before he went to Nelson and if my mind serves me right he was the person that started John Hardin program. However, if beating Bardstown is your State Championship (Walk before Run mentality) then put someone on the schedule that shows your players that you are serious about being a football program. Look at Danville schedule for instance they have better 6A teams on it than are in your District other than John Hardin and Meade you play no one. It is time for a reality check. And by the way all the guys that coached 20 plus years ago are the reason for the great facilities and tradition, but it would be hard to understand if you were never in the fire when head coaches coached 2 or more sports and made less for those 3 than an assistant will come off the golf course for today.
  7. Maybe you did not read my earlier post. I think it is great that they got a new coach and did it in a timely manner. However, Coach Mason as well as Bruner as well as Spalding in my opinion did good jobs as I elluded to earlier. I feel Coach Spalding was a victim of a successful program going through a down cycle, but an excellent coach. The others the same, not much success in Wins or Loses, but that is how the public measrues your program. If this guy is the missing link then go ahead and re-post the job, because if he does not Win early he also will lose the players, because it is easy to see by remarks in the newspaper he did not support Bruner. Once again best of Luck to the players, the community and the program.
  8. After reading the article and now having the understanding of the back stabbing that was apparently taking place in the program I would say when the new principal is hired that they will take a step and hire someone that has the dignity to say positive thing about people that they have worked with. After reading this I have lost a lot or respect for the program. Again, Good Luck
  9. You would think a program of this caliber and potential after going 12-29 in the last four years would have evaluated this situation a little different. Maybe by going inside this sends a clear message to young men that play football (If you want to play for a championship/go to Bardstown), or maybe someone else was offered and did not except because of the shaky administrative situation within the entire school district. If you look at the total picture if you were offered the position chances are you would not be working for the same admistration that is there now. Best of Luck to the new coach and most of all to the community and the players. Your friend in sports
  10. I would say with this type of position and the turnover in the program that they will take their time and hire a quality coach that intends to re-build this football program from the top all the way down. Today it seems that coaches are always looking for the next best job rather than building a tradition. Mark Brown built a solid tradition their, and it has slipped away. The Echoes can be restored, but I think it will come from outside.
  11. Teams have run this for years or variations of it. As a coach the first time I faced it was in the late 90's when Jerry Perry went to Danville. He does a great job as well as coach Harp in implementing things that are new or different that give them the opportunity to get all their great athletes on the field. As the Mummy/Franklin generation has taken hold I see more teams using this and a Nickel with 2 deep to defend the pass as well as the zone read running game. If you do not have this in your defensive system then you will have trouble if you just play man. Some teams can play a pro (4-3) look and be ok verse run or pass but in high school you need to be able to stop both, but again having it in as a package gives you great versatility. If I was going to implement it I would get in contact with Coach Perry/Harp at Danville. They implemented long before anyone else around in high school and know the good and bad.
  12. What will it take for them to Win there? It seems like everything is in place, but what needs to be done? They have had great coaches, community support, great facilities, but only 1 or 2 seasons above .500 in ten years. It seems to me that this would be a good opportunity for someone that wanted to re-build a program. Looking from the outside in I think the community is ready for a winner.
  13. I think it will be a great game for both teams. Both are well coached and have played good competition. Seems like Green has been in the fire since they played Monroe and lost also to Marion. I am suprised Green could go to Danville and Win without Rogers, a guy that still leads 2A in rushing. Should be a great game. Monroe seems to be a very confident team at this time.
  14. It is great to see to quality teams open the season to get better. It does not look to me that either of these programs are scared to get better. If you want to get better play better teams. This has to be one of the best football kickoffs in a long time. Congratulations to both teams for a war on the field. (Defiantely different coaching styles) both were effective and worked well. A lot of athletes on the field
  15. Football takes a great work ethic to be successful .That is the reason that so many coaches/players give it up. Very little pay or appreciation even if success takes place. Basketball has become a roll out the ball sport. I do not think I have seen a jump stop/pivot/or a back door seal the deal in 20 plus years (Because that involves teaching and a work ethic.) Most kids play basketball because it is easy and the ball is rolled out. I have not seen many teams in the past few years that play defense, but if the do they usually win. Our society has become soft and so has our leadership!!! However I do not know many football coaches that do not work their tails off for their players and their school talent or not. Football is the last strong hold of discipline known to man in our society (Knocked down and get up and take care of buisness) nothing else teaches pride, respect or discipline like it.) For the love of the game, the players that play, the coaches that coach it, and the wives that tolerate it.
  16. I saw the negative of this the last two years in AA football. It seems to me that most on this post do not feel that programs that have success during the regular season, but get in the playoffs deserve credit. I think it is an advantage many times to lose during the season because in football the team that has lost is more motivated to win. Basketball and Baseball play each other numerous times. I really feel that by taking the top 2 then you eliminate those that have not fought to get there. Other wise there would be no reason to play the regular season. Looking at the post we might as well start the playoffs in August.
  17. The handbook is for 2007/2008. I just wish we would develop a system where there were no contridition in policy.
  18. Once again there is a contradiction on what has been sent out. In the KHSAA Book that is sent out it clearly breaks practices down as contact and non-contact. It says from July 10 - July 14th it is a helmet only period. From July the 15th until July 21st is a non - contact period, but it is a helmet and shoulder pad period. If you start school on the 1st of August your full pad starting date would be July 22. Once again, I feel that something is being sent out that is not the same as the Hanbook.
  19. I did not see Deener play much, but was there the night on the last play of the game versus Green County at Campbellsville. Deener was hit on a blitz and the noseguard picked up the ball and scored from about 70 yards away. I think this was the end of the Chuck Smith era 89. That is a tough was to remember a Great One.
  20. I put players on there that could compete with the best and did. If you want to go back further you could add Joel Thompson, Terry Taylor, Craig Beard, Jeff Strayley, Chuck Vaughn just to name a few.
  21. I remember the early 90's well. Woolum was hurt at his home before his senior year before school started (broken leg). Sat out the entire year and requested that the KHSAA grant him additional year. (Others have done the same Bobby Lefew was 19 at Boyle County before the season started.) If my memory serves me correctly Toby Bishop ended up being the quarterback and did and outstanding job as well as Jerome Ferguson a Freshmen. There have been others that have left that could have made an impact but felt like that winning was more important than doing the right thing. Ben Brooks also left and went to Bell Co. He probably should have been played up in the 8th grade like Craig Yeast and Dennis Johnson, but he probably would not have played in front of Mitchell Jeffrey and Gary Miller.
  22. McCubbin, Altman, Downs, and Shwobel all are solid players. However, seeing all teams at Campbellsville over the past 40 years I would say this team has some potential, but as for football talent it is not close. You have to remember Gribbins, Spalding, Aron Anderson, Little Bit could compete with the likes of NFL players like the Yeast that plays Tight End for the Chiefs, Craig Yeast that played for several teams, and Dennis Johnson. When you compete with these type of players your just not average or good. So just say that this years squad is a solid good football team and they are do not compare apples to oranges.
  23. In the late 80's and early 90's Pikeville was the Notre Dame of Eastern Kentucky Football. I still have great respect for their program, but I am an outsider looking in and Mike Jackson an outstanding coach tried to leave the day he got there. Maybe it is time for Pikeville to do what many successful programs are having to do. (Look at a mans feelings towards the program and does he have a vested interest if he does not do not look for him to stay.) (Remember it is about the name on the front of the shirt not the back, that is what made Pikeville a great football program.) Good Luck
  24. I think that when the KHSAA was formed in 1917 many things were not considered and correct me if I am wrong but many high school teams played college teams before the KHSAA was established. There are two many privates that have to much power within the association from the top down. The Commisioner is a private school graduate and that has to play a role in the decisions that are made. When the Principals voted for seperation and the body voted it down I think without a doubt it was time for the KHSAA to be desolved as the governing body and the public schools to take over. Once again arrogance in Frankfort took over and threats of lawsuits by Senator Tim Shenhe of Louisville took care of let the people speak about their dissatisfaction. As a coach I take great pride in beating Private schools last year we beat a Louisville team that had players from Indiana, Bullitt County, Shelby County, and of course Jefferson County. However, I do get tired of Alan Donhoff telling people they need to get better and quit whinning. The working hard and getting better comes after years of preparation but do not tell me that having players like Bernard Jackson and Chip Mattingly and those type of public school players that end up at the privates have not had significant impact on X and T. (And by the way Hats off to Louisville Central they get away from the Private Nightmare and what happens you got it State Champs)
  25. Our staff has gone to different clinics over the years and all seem to have good speakers at each. The one in Louisville has gotten way to epensive for most staffs. 2 nights, 5 clinic coaches, food, etc, will run around $1,200. This money could be spent on the players or in the weight room. Louisville and UK both have quality clinics where you actualy get to see drills run and ask questions for about $40.00 a coach. Just an idea.
