How many staffs go to which clinics?

Featured Replies

Coach of the Year clinic presented by Nike is being held this week in Louisville. Quite a few HS staffs from KY are represented, and it seems that those schools are some of your most sucessful programs. Wondering just how many staffs do go to clinics around the area? Is there a correlation or relationship between these types of staffs/programs that constantly go to clinics, and staffs/programs that are sucessful?

Urban Myer spoke this morning, and was very good. He pointed out coach Beaty from Trinity(obviously Robey signed with Florida), and spoke of how good a guy he was and spoke highly of his, and all coaches, that are having sucess, and multilple sucesses. He also mentioned that he has extra support for the coaches accused of cheating/wrongdoing, that are wrongly accused. Said that it only proved that you are doing the right thing.

What staffs do you remember seeing represented?

Trinity, ST. X, Rockcastle, Lou. Central-Head Coach spoke Friday, Russel, Lex. Cath, Cincy ST. X, ect. ect.

Earl Browning, Director of the Nike Clinic stated before Coach Meyer spoke that over 1200 coaches were in attendance representing 14 states...

As with any profession, continuos improvement is vital in becoming (or staying) successful. I believe it was Coach Eddie Robinson that once said something to the effect of, "When a Coach stops learning about his profession, he should step aside or retire." (Paraphased)

Franklin County is also there. 4 out of the last 5 years I think.

Our staff has gone to different clinics over the years and all seem to have good speakers

at each. The one in Louisville has gotten way to epensive for most staffs. 2 nights,

5 clinic coaches, food, etc, will run around $1,200. This money could be spent on the

players or in the weight room. Louisville and UK both have quality clinics where you actualy get to see drills run and ask questions for about $40.00 a coach. Just an

idea.

The clinic in Louisville is a social event. The best clinics are at colleges, they are not very expensive and they do drills and will sit down with you to show you whatever schemes you want to talk about. I went last year to West Virginia, it was a really good clinic.

SOCIAL EVENT!

Bring a few big name speakers and you got yourself a clinic. Does the staff gain anything?

I'm not saying that any other clinic is "lesser" than this one, but I looked the clinic up online. It did seem reasonably priced to me, and the topics of the lectures looked very pertinent, with obviously successful coaches presenting. Maybe it is social as well, but as with any event of this sort, isn't it about what you put into it, what you'll get out of it?

You are 100% correct, you can go and party all weekend, or you can learn alot. Pick out speakers that coach your position and head coaches that have had success and you can take some good things from clinics.

Nike clinics are for show, Glazier clinics are a much better choice.

You can learn a lot at the NIKE clinic.

You Learn more in the Hotel rooms than you do in the sessions. Friday Night I heard a coach talk 2 hours on a 3-3 stack defensive scheme. Gave a ton of drills and scheme info. Even talked about where he was weak during certain alighments.

So it depends on if you choose to find the folks doing the best teaching.
