CovCath 6 - Ashland 0 OT Story from the Daily Independent. I think Barry Jones was a sophomore lineman for CovCath that year.

That game deserves its own thread. Very physical matchup where both teams left it all on the field. I believe Ashland had three losses coming into that game, but they were a handful and much better than most CovCath fans were expecting.

I’m guessing a 10-1 Ashland team that has put points up in every game will be fired up for this one. The Tomcats are a fine program and I hope the Colonels will match the intensity. Definitely a step up in competition compared to the back half of the schedule.

CalPreps has Ashland at about the same rating as Beechwood. CovCath only beat the Beechies by 4 points. Based on that score, this game could be very competitive. CovCath's corners better come ready to play, they will be tested.

Much respect for the Ashland program. Looking forward to seeing the game planning by both coaching staffs in what is likely the best 4A matchup in this round of the playoffs.

What’s the all time series record? Pretty sure CovCath has played Greenup once or twice?

Was this post for me? I said in the quoted post, Playing 4 teams in higher classes has certainly helped CovCath's RPI and that strength of schedule is not factored into the RPI.

If Boyle thumps Douglass, they are the heavy favorite in the 4A playoffs.

That's a factor. The Danville game hurts Boyle's OWP component in the RPI total, which makes up 35% of the RPI.

Playing 4 teams in higher classes has certainly helped CovCath's RPI. However, strength of schedule is not factored into the RPI. To play along, the strength of schedule question gets tricky. CovCath hasn't played a non-district team with a really low ranking as both Boyle and Corbin have. Using the CalPreps ranking for each non-district team played to date, CovCath has played teams currently ranked 7, 20, 25, 31, and 43 in the state for an average of 25.2. Boyle has currently played teams ranked 9, 12, 19, 23, and 168 for an average of 46.2 (I took the Indiana team's CalPrep ranking and used where they would be ranked in Kentucky to determine their rank). Corbin has played teams ranked 5, 23, 34, 85, 90, and 155 for an average of 65.3 (Again, I took the Ohio team's CalPrep ranking and used where they would be ranked in Kentucky to determine their rank.) From that perspective, an argument could be made that CovCath has played the hardest schedule to date among the three.

Anyway, Mason didn’t roll over and played well in the first half. The pick 6 was a momentum changer.

In the first half, the clock did not stop on first downs, probably costing 2 minutes of game time. I know the clock crew is provided by Mason County, but shouldn’t the refs be looking at the clock to make sure it is stopped or running?
