I think Ashland returns 6 starters on both sides of the ball next season. They should be very good next season.

There were a couple of times I thought the Tomcats might crack but, to their credit, they held up each time.

CovCath forcing the three and out coming of halftime was a huge momentum changer.

Ashland is a proud program with a lot of tradition. I figured they would not go down without a fight. Glad this game was in Park Hills and not Ashland.

I think the computers have trouble knowing what to do with blowout wins. For instance, this year CovCath’s district games didn’t tell us anything about the Colonels other than they were way ahead of the rest of the district. CalPreps exclude these types of games from its ratings math, but maybe Cantrall doesn’t and it ends up skewing the numbers. I can remember some years when Bell County was in 3A with CovCath and the Bobcats were way better than their Cantrall rating. Maybe strength of schedule played into that. For instance Bell seemingly beat their district foes 56-7 every year, but the computers don’t know if Bell pulled their starters in the 2nd quarter or the 4th quarter. All I know is that Log Mountain in late November is not a fun place to play.

Peck listed the scores in games with common opponents and mentioned the difference in the SK games. I’m guessing he is basing it on the Herald-Leader Cantrall Ratings. Cantrall Ratings: Ashland Blazer (80.8), Covington Catholic (86.5).
