Along with Mike Engler (Ryle) and Jim McKee (Scott County), Brian Weinrich is one of only three active head coaches in Kentucky to have beaten teams coached by Eddie Eviston more than once, and he stands as the only one to have beaten one of Eddie's teams twice in the same season (2015). However, in his second year as skipper at Campbell County, the Camels are sitting firmly in the bottom half of 6A, having just brought a three-game skid to a stop with a 28-22 win over Great Crossing on Friday night in Claryville to give Campbell County their 3rd win of the season, and Weinrich his 7th total win as their head coach (7-13).

Campbell County's offense is led by senior quarterback Nathan Smith, a 54% passer who has thrown for 1,381 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. Smith also leads the team in rushing, with 666 yards and 13 of the team's 16 touchdowns on the ground this season. Running backs Carson Evers and Trevor Bertram also combine for over 500 yards or the Camels' running game, while Garyn Jackson and Xavier Fancher have been Smith's favorite passing targets, combining for over 850 yards receiving between the two. Campbell County's defense is led in tackles by defensive back Joseph Amato (58), and linebackers Aiden Dowds (50) & Hunter Wiseman (48). The Camel defense has been fairly effective stopping opponents' rushing attacks this season, but they have struggled against efficient passing teams, giving up an average of nearly 240 yards by air each game.

With Colonel Senior Night this upcoming Friday in Park Hills, Campbell County will have an uphill battle as they take on Cov Cath in the final week of the regular season. The Colonels' offense is firing on all cylinders, averaging just over 400 yards per game, with a balanced 49% run game, 51% pass game. Senior quarterback Evan Pitzer is 110-152 (72%) passing this season for 1,833 yards and 20 touchdowns, has only been intercepted 4 times, and averages almost 17 yards per reception. Senior running back Owen Leen is looking strong and healthy after missing one game early on due to concussion protocol and missing two of Cov Cath's district games while nursing an ankle injury, but Leen has shown to be a workhorse for the Colonel offense, with his 424 yards and 7 touchdowns in 6 games this season. Senior tight end Willie Rodriguez, and receivers Braylon Miller, Oliver Link, and Noah Johnson also give Pitzer plenty of targets by air, while players like Ben McEvoy, Andrew Bessler, Cash Harney, and Dylan Gaiser are ready and waiting to provide ample backup for the Colonels as offensive weapons.

Cov Cath's defense is led in tackles by junior linebacker Tate Kruer (70), sophomore defensive back Logan Sanning (30), junior linebacker Andrew Bessler (29), and senior D-lineman Ben Reeves (28). Senior linebacker Josh Flood is still tied with Reeves at 28 total tackles, but has been out since September 15th with a broken collar bone. Similar-but-different from Campbell County, the Colonel defense is also slightly more susceptible to passing, having given up 200 more passing yards this season than they have rushing yards, but Cov Cath has managed to hold their opponents to an average of 241 total yards per game, to their own offensive average of over 400 yards per game.

What are your predictions for the final week of the regular season for these two teams?

That's weird...I thought the same thing but double-checked in the KHSAA Scoreboard and they had him down as HC at Campbell County:

That is weird.  Website shows him in two places that season.  He was at Newport in 2021 though.

I’m getting old. I had forgotten that Goetz coached at Campbell County.

The '87 Campbell County team must have been a pretty good team.  It was the closest margin of victory for CCH and that was the first State championship team.  If memory serves me correctly, they had some pretty good freshman and JV teams in that era too but could never get it to translate into varsity success.

The '87 team for Cov Cath was definitely NOT a slouch...especially defensively. That team still holds the school records for most shutouts (7), fewest points allowed during the regular season (51), fewest points allowed during the playoffs (26), and fewest allowed for the complete season (77).

Campbell County was one of only four teams to even score on Cov Cath that season. Besides scoring 27% of the points allowed by the Colonels during the entire regular season, Campbell County was one of only three teams to score on Cov Cath more than once that year. I remember that game. Campbell County was playing at Cov Cath. The week before, the Colonels had been down 20-7 to Highlands at halftime, so Cov Cath pulled starting senior QB Donnie Bieger to put in junior Paul Hladon since Hladon was a stronger passer. After being told he was coming out of the game, Bieger told OC Tim Hobbs, "Put me in at receiver. I know all the routes. I just want to help, Coach." Donnie was a backup receiver for the rest of that game (which Cov Cath came from behind to win 21-20), and then was also playing WR during the Campbell County game until Hladon broke his hand during the third quarter, so they moved Bieger back to QB. Campbell scored about halfway through the fourth quarter to tie the game at 14-14 and send the game to OT. The Camels had the first possession in OT, and Cov Cath forced a fumble on the first or second play and the Colonels recovered the ball. Then Biegs connected with Scott Tranter for a touchdown on their first OT possession to win. Great game. I was 6 years old, and I was an absolute nervous wreck when the game went to overtime, lol.

Just another game, CCH. Go out there and TCB.
