  1. Rico Brown is 5'11" 185 lbs. Junior. This kid runs a low 4.5 and has been getting looks from Western, Purdue, and Louisville. The kids is a beast in the weightroom, and works out with 225 on cleans which is impressive. Rico has good vision, and explodes to the hole. I think from what I have heard he will be recruited as a corner or safety, but is a true D1 prospect.
  2. Devon Johnson from Madison Southern is one to watch out for. This Sophomore started several games as a Freshman last year, but should really contribute this year.
  3. I think the Madison Southern vs. Anderson County will be a great game, watch for a lot of speed from Southern and toughness from Anderson...looking forward to it!
  4. Rico Brown from Madison Southern will certainly be one to watch. He has played the last two years under Doug Carter and Jim Tanara. This kid is a Junior and and will be a third year starter and is talented...He runs well and has very good hands. He is an intelligent football player and a good kid, and certainly consideration should begin to go his way for one the players to watch!!! Go Eagles! BEAT THE ROCK.
  5. Powell is much improved, and Harlan will take 1 year to compete, (Even Larkey needs time to get things on the right track). I think Coach Whitaker's team would have won that game.
  6. He got a lot of his info from Mike Elkin when he was at Madison Southern. Elkin had a lot of success with the wing-T his last year at Madison Southern he has two 1000 backs, and ran a lot of counter, veer, and waggle.
  7. Well this is the last I'll post on this matter, but just to let you know I work here in the county and have coached for many years and hold firm with what I said. Also, its so bad that several coaches have already declined to work on staff with Cooksey...is it fair that...maybe, but the way it has been handled he has lost a lot of respect from his peers here in the county. I hope him the best and I'm sure he'll win because of who he has coming into the program, but the way Gina and and Cooksey went about things put him behind the eightball from the get go.
  8. I think there is when they haven't talked to each other, when they work all of 100 feet of each other, and one is the Brother-in-law of the person who did the hiring, when a few of the coaches who applied are way more qualified. So whatever info you do have may be a little off. Sinister is a little harsh, but a little crooked...yes
  9. Well I know for a fact because I work with the parties involved, that Cooksey and G have barely spoken a word to each other since this happened, this is an inside job, and to get a job based on family member doing the hiring is wrong. Cooksey will win because those girls are awesome, but it won't be because of honesty and hard work.
  10. This may be the worst hire ever. Nothing personal against Cooksey, but Gina Lakes was quoted saying they wanted to go in a different direction, but yet she hires someone from G's staff who is also her brother-in-law. The guy has no head coaching expirence, and hasn't even been a head coach at the youth league level, and now he is coaching in one of the toughest regions in the state. Also, this hire makes it look as if G was booted to give Cooksey the job, and I also thought that this was against state policy to hire a family member as a head coach if your relative was the principal. I don't wish bad things for Central, but after this hire they don't deserve to win. This is a black eye for Madison Central, and I hope you all realize it "will" get worse as far as support for the school.
  11. Everyone has interviewed, now we are waiting on a decision. The list includes Mike Crafton, Mercer Co. Coach, Henderson's Coach, a GA from EKU and Cooksey who is Gina Lakes' brother-in-law.
  12. Well I know for a fact having graduated from Southern, and knowing many of the players and coaches, that this has been the toughest off-season work of ANY team at Southern. These kids have lifted Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and do agility work on Tuesday and Thursday. There have been about 35+ kids there everyday. Southern is not really big, but I promise that they will be fast. Coach Brumley and his staff have worked hard ever since coach Carter resigned and that had been since the first of November, Coach Brumley was working with the kids way before he was hired as head coach. His dedication and hard work will pay off. It may not show in the win loss column this year, but in time look for Madison Southern to begin to roll. The kids are buying in to his work ethic, and I am seeing things that never took place even when Coach Elkin was there. The players like coach Brumley a lot. And his staff are all under 30 with a few having played college sports and knowing what it takes to win. Look for good things out of this program in the coming years.
  13. Word is WKU has shown a lot of interest in RB/WR Rico Brown, he will be a Junior this coming up fall, and looks to help an improving Eagle squad.
  14. I know about the pay...ALL Madison County High Schools pay the same (That includes Southern)...but I really think there are just a few jobs he would ever leave for anyway...Mason Co., and maybe Lex Cath., but he's in a good spot where he's at, the talent that was at Clark Moores this year was really good so the future looks bright. But from what one of the coaches down there told me, he isn't happy with the direction that the sports programs are going in right now.
  15. Well I know for a fact coach Feldhaus was totally against Coach G getting the axe. I don't think he has a lot of confidence in his adminstration...I know he has a great relationship with the A.D. because his top assistant is the A.D.'s son. I mean really would you want to stay at a place that got rid of a coach who won the district, and a region game? Also, as far as Coach G was concerned people got onto him for losing to Southern two years ago, Coach G's team was all Freshman and Sophomores, and Southern had the Jeck girl who if I'm not mistaken was a 2,000 point scorer. But, NWO I think if he does leave, this situation will certainly play a role in his mind...To me this situation would make me want to leave as well.
  16. A coach on his staff said he would really consider leaving if one of the top jobs came open...use you imagination on where that might be.
  17. These kids have been lifting since the 1st of November, I will say this these kids have never worked as hard as they are working right now. Coach Brumley has made sure that they won't be out worked. More and more kids are buying into this program which is great to see, and these kids are being held accountable for everything they do. Madison Southern got it right with there new coach, and I hope it shows in the win loss column.
  18. Well I'll say this, GARY FRITZ is not the problem. It's the Principal there. The assistant under Coach G is her brother-in-law. Word is he wants the job because he knows how much talent is there. Gary had the rug pulled out from under him the same as Coach G. He liked Coach G a lot. Also, because of this word is that Coach Feldhaus is considering looking at other jobs, and if that happens Central will certainly taste mediocrity, because his daughter will be a Miss. Basketball finalist if not win the thing, she is an unbelieveable player and is in the 8th grade right now, she's already 6'2". Gina Lakes has no clue about sports, and is beginning to ruin what years of work have taken place at Central for many years. Gary had no input on Coach G and its unfair to blame him. Blame the principal alone for getting rid of a very good coach.
  19. I believe though that Mike Crafton would be the best choice...He coached all these girls in middle school and has expirence coaching at the high school level. He is a great guy with tons of basketball knowledge, and young enough to get through to these girls, these girls are really good, and with the right coach can very easily win the 11th region.
  20. The word on the street is that the new Superintendent is trying to bring in a coach from Somerset where he is from...sounds fishy to me!
  21. I believe that this should make all Madison Co. coaches stand at attention. This is just flat wrong to let a man of high character go because parents think they run the show. When will adminstrations learn that parents are not there to run a program, but to support a program. Madison Southern has done this for years, had look how successful they are...glad to see Central is following suit.
  22. You bring up some really good points HORSE. But I wouldn't good as far as saying coaches. Other than Teddy Taylor, I believe strongly that Southern has had good coaches, but it goes to the fact like I stated earlier about "INTIMIDATION." Southern is like that "dog that gets beat over and over" until one day the dog decides he's had enough and finally bites back. Southern had Mt. Vernon beat in 1996 and 1997 but just didn't finish in the clutch. Southern played Mt. Vernon really tough last year until the 4th quarter because simply the kids allowed them to run over them. When I played at Southern in the mid 90's we were tough minded but could never get over that hump of "the rock." We beat an outstanding Corbin team that year (1996) and got beat with 30 seconds left in the regional finals to Boyle. The mindset in Mt. Vernon is totally different with the whole community expecting to win. So you are right about the parents...they shouldn't come if they feel that way, but until the outside community of Berea support Madison Southern all the way Mt. Vernon will will. But I believe in my heart that the kids and staff at Southern want and will beat "The Rock" very soon. P.S. Your right about the stands they are a little small, more people wind up on the track than the bleachers!
