  1. I do believe there is enough talent to beat Rockcastle, and there has been several times where Southern had more talent than Rockcastle, but the problem is that the support for Southern and Rockcastle are totally different. Mount Vernon supports that team in everything they do. Parents tell there kids they will win, and then tell everybody else they will win. That is the difference, Rockcastle beat Southern those first few years and parents etc. believed that Southern couldn't beat Rockcastle. Many parents of both schools work with each other and the parent from Rockcastle tell them they are going to get beat and it gets back to the players and they believe that stuff. Its an intimidation factor that Rockcastle has over Southern, not talent, not coaches, not facilities, Southern has to find that "FRAME OF MIND" to play against the Rockets, and until that happens Rockcastle will continue to win. There has never been a huge difference in players, only in the mind...Southern will find that and when and only when they find that will they beat Rockcastle.
  2. I saw some practice yesterday, and I can say that a strong mentality is being built at Southern. Attention is being paid to the little things. Kids run everywhere, helmets don't come off, and players are now responsible for everything they do. Coach Brumley is going about this the right way. I heard him tell the kids that the locker room is their home and its THEIR responsibility to take pride and clean it up after every practice. He has a lot of new kids who haven't played so practice is modified down, but I believe that things are in the right direction. Brumley has some nice players with Rico Brown, Devon Johnson, and Mike Mullins. The mentality that I've seen reminds me a lot of the MIke Elkin days, and I believe that with some time the results are going to be their, the kids look like they are learning to compete more than anything, and that in itself can win you ballgames...Good luck to Coach Brumley and his staff, we are excited for the upcoming season...GO EAGLES
  3. Thats correct pride, Malachi graduated this past December from EKU having played under Coach Hope he is now the RB and DB coach. He played in the secondary at EKU and led the state in rushing his senior of high-school with well over 2000 yards...great addition to a young staff.
  4. They didn't lose their WR he's #4 Rico Brown and he will only be a Junior. He has two years left and can absolutely fly. I've heard he's going to be the running back on the team.
  5. I haven't been by since last week, does anyone know how practice has been going?
  6. There is no arguement that those two schools year in and year out are the best two this state has to offer, but the arguement is what about the other 6A teams who cannot compete with numbers, facilities, and coaching numbers. The only other team that could even maybe play with them is Highlands, and in most years they would stomp Highlands. Plus, look at the way the REGION is set up two LOUISVILLE schools meet in the finals...thats not right...two Lexington schools will never meet in a 6A championship. Those two teams need to meet either in a regional final or in the Semi's...that is fair to the rest of these kids all over the state who bust their butt's just hard as Trinity and X...Most students aren't blessed to go to a program where everything from weightrooms to offices are first class, but they shouldn't be punished for not have those things either.
  7. Devon Johnson at Madison Southern is one to look out for. He runs a legit low 4.5 and is a good cover corner. He started at corner I believe the last 5 games of the year on an already extremeley young EAGLE team. The EAGLES should be better this year, and have more really young players on the rise.
  8. From what I hear the first practice of the spring went well. The kids worked extremely hard, and fundamentals is the name of the game during spring. I think coach Brumley has like 15 kids who have never played before, but have worked hard getting stronger over the winter. I drove by and watched for a little while and liked what I saw. I believe the negativity that has surrounded the program is quickly on its way out.
  9. Michael Belt from Madison Southern...The kid was 6'4'' 300lbs tackle who was first team all-state in the courier journal, and 2nd in a few other publications throuhout the state. He dominated Nolan Devaughn who played at Corbin and went on to play at center for UK. Also, "BIG BELT" played well in the Kentucky Tennessee all-star game in 1997, but his grades were not up to par, and his ACT scores were low, so big schools like Louisville, Indiana, and Cinncy backed off of him. Mike Elkin was his coach at Madison Southern, and he will tell you to this day that this was the best lineman he ever coached, and Elkin coached some good ones.
  10. A super hire, Southern could have made this hire two months ago.
  11. Good point, but I really don't think the spread will be Southern's main weapon with Brumley at the helm.
  12. Hey Bear you are right about Carter, but in his defense his last two years killed his record, but before that he was well over .500. and got them three playoff wins, before that Elkin was a consistant winner, he was always winning games and to this day lost what was probably the best playoff game this area has ever seen. Chuck Smith was even quoted a few years back saying that that was the most exciting playoff game he ever coached in. Boyle won that game with 30 seconds to go in the regional final. The "ELKIN" mentality is what Madison Southern has not had over the past 10 years. As tough as he was his players would have run through a wall for that guy. Teddy Taylor killed Madison Southern. That guy had no clue...where's he at...oh yeah CENTRAL. He doesn't even show up for their meeting on Saturdays for coach Turner and that is a fact. All he does now is walk up and down sideline yelling like he knows what is going on. He was a great player, and was able to get coaching jobs on his name alone. Anyway, "Fairly Successful" you can argue that...but its fair.
  13. Well lets go through these coaches...All of them have been fairly successful, but none of them have ever really done a whole lot. Hensley should have gotten fired for losing as many games as he has, but he may be able to to get back with the talent he has. Chappel has yet to prove anything. Dixon I don't know much about, Todd Harris...well Berea and Jackson Co. should say enough there, he hasn't won at either place. Kenny Turner is the biggest underachiever. Scott, Clark, Lincoln, Boone, all have beat him with regularity, he has a few wins over the lesser schools in LEX, and Shipley has had moderate success. Point being, Southern has good teams every few years, but why in the world would we want mediocrity, Southern has the skill to win that district with Bell and Rock, but why would we want one more mediocre coach like Central has produced. Also Bear, playing good teams is great I'll give you that, but when you aren't competitive and get blown out is another.
  14. I heard Wayne Lainhart may be a candidate as well...any word?
  15. Thats right it is what the kids deserve, and they deserve someone who is making them better right now...BRUMLEY...he has worked his tail off with these kids for several years now, he knows what it takes to make these kids better he just needs the chance to show what he can do has a head coach. Scenter had his chance to come down there and work, but instead his heart has been at Central. Southern doesn't need some hand me down from Central...if he was such a great coach why doesn't he just stay at Central and take that job when Turner leaves. Brumley is also working with the Middle School kids and their development to make sure the future of Southern can become strong. Scenters needs to stay at Central, because Southern doesn't need Central's staff to make it better.
  16. Maybe those kids didn't want to play for Coach Carter...you thought of that. He was the head coach, not Brumley...I give my support for Brumley...He demands a lot from those kids and they love him...the WHOLE SCHOOL LOVES THIS GUY!
  17. ...Rumor has it that Leon Hart was spotted in Richmond last Saturday, and Thursday in Richmond...word is he has an interest in who gets the EKU job in the next few weeks. He has great support in Ashland, but his son is a student at EKU, so coach may want another round with the Colonels?
  18. Sorry for your misunderstanding of my post...however, I in no manner called any Southern or other High School kid "chicken crap!" People can interpret my posts which ever way they please, however I did not intend that post to be INTERPRETED as calling any young man apart of that team of the team in general "chicken crap!"
  19. Bill Belicheck would have went 1-9 with this Southern team...if you can follow that thought! NO...Carter nor Brumley was the problem...both are established coaches and I have seen the coaching both gentleman do, it is top notch. You can not turn chicken crap into chicken salad, no matter how good of a chef you are!
  20. I agree 100% Brumley knows the game, knows the kids and works as hard as any coach I have ever been around. Dave Brumley would be a nice fit for the Eagles!
  21. I do not think Dunbar can win another one with no offensive points and I think that D will be put to an even bigger test tomorrow night against HClay. However, I think Coach Hensley does a great job with PLD but Im taking Clay in this one 21-7.
  22. Does anybody have any predictions or insight here for this game. I know Central already beat Shelby once this year and that game was at Central and this game will be in Richmond as well, but that Shelby/Scott Co scoore last week was crazy!
  23. Is a coach who can teach the mindset that they can compete with the MT. VERNON (ROCKCASTLE) and BELL Co. Over the course of the last ten years there have been teams that were very capable of beating those teams, but the players and their parents don't believe that this can be accomplished...I say BULLHOCKEY. Madison Southern doesn't need better players, they just need a winning attitude, that is what will get this team competing for a regional title year in and year out. Look at Rockcastle, they were Bell's whipping boy for years, they finally beat Bell and the rest is history over the course of the last 15 that game has grown into a heated rivalry. As someone who has watched many of their games for the past ten years, this might have been the best staff they have had there, but the players just seemed like they had other priorities. I know that this is just a game and that life goes on after highschool, but what these kids need to realize is that this game is a stepping stone for what they will do the rest of there lives.
  24. Uh, NO. That game wasn't even close, Belfry was flat out better......................the score was 39-6 They were not "flat out better" they cheated and were used to it! If the game was played in a parking lot or any "LEGAL" playing field Soutern would have won. When you are playin against a team with illegal equipment (spikes that are too long) on a illegal, unsafe surface (crappy field sprayed with fire truck) the score does not reflect the two teams that are playing!
