After Bryan Station goes on 14-2 run to lead 36-34 early second half, Scott County blows game open with 21-1 burst. Trent Gilbert scores 34 for the Cards. Scott County can win district title with victory at Henry Clay in early Febriary.

Was 32-29 Central at half. Only stats I for at this point was Central's Quan Taylor had 24 rebounds. Henry Clay was 19-35 at line. Madison Central solidifies fact they are team to beat in 11th Region.

It only is decisive if Bryan Station wins. Scott County can win the district outright with wins over BS and then at Henry Clay in February. If SC wins tonight and Henry Clay beats SC, then it's a 3-way tie. Not sure of the tiebreaker, but since top 3 would have split everything I would assume some type of coin toss / longest straw scenario would happen.

Is it not seeded like the rest of the districts in the 11th?

Today's win tied school record for most wins in a season. Coach Scarberry said at the beginning of the year this was probably the best team he has ever had there, and they are proving him right. So much balance!

Admitttedly, I am not an expert on either of these teams. But, the final result strikes me as a little weird. Didn't Bracken County play a couple of 10th region teams (namely Pendleton and Harrison) fairly close recently. And, Bourbon County has some bad losses. Am I the only one surprised?

I haven't seen Bullitt East play in person this year, but I agree they are probably the best team. I guess since this doesn't come out every 7 days I see your point. And, I am not disagreeing about any of the rankings necessarily. I do think Henry Clay is too high based on recent results, as they have lost their last 2 against Top 20 teams. How far too high, maybe 2 or 3 spots. Truthfully, no matter what order or who you left out, there will be always be omissions. Covington Catholic might be the most glaring omission this time. I think Knott County Central is the most overrated team in the Top 20. They are 0-1 against other Top 20 teams and recently lost to Perry County Central, which lost 2 of our 3 in the recent Toyota Classic. Maybe Covington Catholic deserves their spot.

Just make the poll like the NCAA rankings. What have you done for me lately and where were you ranked in the last poll -- those are the 2 questions that should determine the order. On top logic, Trinity should be in front of Ballard this week. Since Lafayette was already ranked, they dropped as expected, but Covington Catholic wouldn't automatically move up. If they would have beaten Montgomery County, then they would have probably made the list. Bryan Station, for example, would have been Top 10 worthy if they didn't lose to Woodford County. I think Henry Clay should have fallen further due to the loss to Bryan Station. They didn't beat anybody worthwhile after that loss.

I have no dog in this fight but here's what I saw from a neutral perspective. Wallace did the off the ball pushing to get it started but it only turned into a fight because of Frederick. He grabbed Wallace around the neck and pulled him tight. Then it looked like they both tried to get loose but neither was strong enough to break free of the other so they entangled and ended up going to the ground and the scrum ensued. I, too, think it went on longer enough before the scrum that the officials should have stopped it immediately, gave both technicals and moved on with the game. The CovCath assistant was over the top all night and I think the one official had just had enough of him. I, as a spectator, was worn out by him. And why he would yell at Scott County officials because they had no jurisdiction or had anything to do with that individual game. I was disappointed Happy walked to the officials dressing room instead of participating in his team's trophy presentation. I left shortly after so don't know when he reappeared. And on my way out, I walked past Frederick's dad who was visibly upset but at that time not talking to anyone. Unfortunate ending to a well played, physical game.

They will miss Trinity / Mason County

FYI, my points above all assume each team beats Sayre. And, that is a pretty certain assumption.

By the way, last night's game made it impossible for Henry Clay to win the district race OUTRIGHT. Bryan Station claims the regular season title and the coveted No. 1 seed (to play Sayre) with a victory at Scott County. Scott County also contols its own destiny, if they beat Bryan Station and Henry Clay they will be the top seed. Henry Clay can only be the No. 1 seed if Scott County beats Bryan Station and they beat Scott County, then it would be a 3-way tie at the top determined by a tiebreaker. No idea what the tiebreaker is in a 3-way. Assume a "draw the biggest straw / coin flip" would be the way to break the tie. No matter what, one of the top teams in the state will be going home early out of the 42nd District.

No. 2 behind Madison Cemtral at this point. Larry Morton has burst back onto the scene with a vengeance and had a great season.

Nobody was missing although Gilbert and Haddix didn't start. Richardson was 2-16 and Gilbert 5-16. Team seems to be having chemistry issues.

Henry Clay (14-2), led by juniors Christen Cunningham, Jordan Green and Trey Grundy, face a tough test on the road Thursday night in the S.T. Roach Classic at Dunbar (11-5). The Bulldogs, coming off back-to-back easy wins over Lexington Christian and Tates Creek, will look to prove they are a region contender in this one, having failed last time they challenged one of the top three during a loss to Scott County. At this point in the 11th region, Madison Central, Henry Clay and Scott County appear to be the top 3, with Dunbar (7-2 in the region with losses to Scott County and Woodford County) behind in 4th. The junior trio combines to score 42 points an outing for the Blue Devils, led by Green at 15.5 per game. Cunningham and Grundy are both slightly above 13 points a game. Dunbar is led by the senior backcourt of Mike Smith and William Gary, along with fellow seniors Eric Trigg and E.J. Floreal. Injuries could play a part in the outcome of this game, as Grundy sprained his ankle Tuesday against Sayre and Floreal suffered a concussion against Tates Creek. The expectation is Floreal is a no go, but Grundy may be a game time decision. Dunbar seems to coming on since they have adopted a more up-tempo style, but I expect Henry Clay to take this one in a close game. Even if they don't pull out a victory, I look for Dunbar to show they are a legitimate contender in the tough 11th Region. Who wins and why?

Scott County (12-4) looks to maintain the upper hand through the first round of games in the 42nd District by winning on the road at Bryan Station (10-5). Scott County's 89-86 win over Henry Clay last Friday gives them the early upper hand as Bryan Station lost 52-48 to Henry Clay earlier in the season. A Bryan Station win would mean a 3-way tie at the top. The Cardinals are led by senior point guard Quin Richardson, who missed Tuesday's 59-47 victory over Woodford County, due to the flu. He should be OK by Friday and Scott County will need him to be. In his absence Tuesday, Scott County played their worst game of the season in a ragged combined 62 turnover game. Trent Gilbert led the Cards with 22 points against Woodford, but seven turnovers. Jalen Haddix, who was huge with 18 points in the over Henry Clay, played against Woodford, but was also battling sickness and didn't have his best performance. Bryan Station comes into the game on a four-game winning streak, including a big region win over Lafayette Tuesday. Larry Morton has led the way for the Defenders with 17 points and seven rebounds per contest, including 23 points against Lafayette. Marcellious Washington has added 11 points per game, while Tyler Smith gets eight points and eight rebounds per contest. Junior guard Jordan Henry scored 13 in the win over Lafayette. Expect Bryan Station to give the Cardinals a good run Friday, but I expect Scott County to pull out the victory by 8-10 points. To do so, Scott County will have to keep the Defenders out the offensive glass and not give too many threes to Morton and Washington. For Bryan Station to win, they will have to minimize the backcourt duo of Richardson and Gilbert, and nobody has really done that all season. Who wins and why?

I disagree, I don't believe this is an upset. Model might have its best team ever, at least when Scarberry has been coaching. I have then winning the 11th Region All A in my preview.

I would like to see them beat one of the top teams in the region before I believe, although they definitely have the talent to beat anyone.

11th Region All A Preview Despite the fact they have stated the season slowly, Lexington Christian Academy has to be considered the favorite to claim the 11th Region All A title simply due to the fact that they have won the last nine, including a championship game victory over Richmond Model last year. Model, off to a 12-3 start, looks to be LCA’s toughest competition to take the crown this year. Frankfort, Berea and Sayre round out the field that will battle it out at Sayre beginning Jan. 15. Ranking The Teams 1. LCA (5-9) … The Eagles, trying to replace last year’s top player Taylor Barnette, are off to a slow start against a tough schedule. Senior guard Tyler Harville leads the way at 16 points per game, followed by sophomore Matt Rose at 10 points a game. Jon Lannertone (six points, six rebounds per game) and Taylor Blair (5 ppg) also bring some senior leadership and experience of winning the All A Region. 2. Richmond Model (12-3) … Coach Wes Scarberry has a balanced attack, with five in double figures. Jon Ballard (14 points, 8 rebounds) and A.J. Hammons (14 ppg) lead the way, followed by Anthony Gerald (14 ppg, 8 apg), Brendan Hill (13 ppg) and Zack Rice-Gordon (10 ppg, 6 rpg). Jesse Middleton chips in six points and seven rebounds per contest. Model’s best win so far was a 65-63 victory over Woodford County in the final of Shirley Kearns Invitational. Model averages 70 points a game, 3rd most in the entire 11th Region. 3. Frankfort (5-10) … The 11th Regional All A coaches pre-season top player Aaron Jackson quit after playing four games and the Panthers have struggled trying to replace his scoring and rebounding, although a recent win over Tates Creek shows the team’s potential. Guards Jalen Oliver and Jalen Washington lead Matthew Yates’ squad. 4. Sayre (2-9) … After losing post player Ray Brewer before the season due to a rotator cuff injury, Coach Ted Hall’s Spartans have had a difficult time finding success. Justin Sanders (16 ppg, 7 rpg) and Martin Durmov (7 rpg) has done their best to help Sayre. 5. Berea (5-11) … First-year coach Cameron Jackson has been led by Andy Allen (10 points, 7 rebounds per game), Daniel Hubbard (9.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and Trey Terrill (9.3 ppg). Eli Woodie, pre-season ranked 5th best player in 11th All A by the coaches, adds 7.1 points per contest. Top Players 1. Tyler Harville, LCA … can score in bunches. 2. A.J. But, it won’t be easy as LCA has own the region for almost a decade.
