Henry Clay (14-2), led by juniors Christen Cunningham, Jordan Green and Trey Grundy, face a tough test on the road Thursday night in the S.T. Roach Classic at Dunbar (11-5). The Bulldogs, coming off back-to-back easy wins over Lexington Christian and Tates Creek, will look to prove they are a region contender in this one, having failed last time they challenged one of the top three during a loss to Scott County. At this point in the 11th region, Madison Central, Henry Clay and Scott County appear to be the top 3, with Dunbar (7-2 in the region with losses to Scott County and Woodford County) behind in 4th.

 

The junior trio combines to score 42 points an outing for the Blue Devils, led by Green at 15.5 per game. Cunningham and Grundy are both slightly above 13 points a game. Dunbar is led by the senior backcourt of Mike Smith and William Gary, along with fellow seniors Eric Trigg and E.J. Floreal. Injuries could play a part in the outcome of this game, as Grundy sprained his ankle Tuesday against Sayre and Floreal suffered a concussion against Tates Creek. The expectation is Floreal is a no go, but Grundy may be a game time decision.

 

Dunbar seems to coming on since they have adopted a more up-tempo style, but I expect Henry Clay to take this one in a close game. Even if they don't pull out a victory, I look for Dunbar to show they are a legitimate contender in the tough 11th Region.

PLD in the upset. I read where PLD will be wearing old green jerseys on ST Roach night. Place will be electric with the DAWG POUND bringing the noise. Intra-city games are impossible to predict. I do expect both of these teams to be at EKU for the regional.

That is very cool.

I have a question about the place being "electric". Have people started coming to city games these days? I haven't been to a city game in 2 years but the last one I went to (Dunbar/Tates Creek) there was a total of 91 people in the stands. Yes, I actually counted them. I hope people are going these days, because those games are very well played usually pretty close.
