  1. Here are the results for the 2017 All-A Tournament basketball contest. As always, the results won't be final for 24 hours. All contestants should use that time to check their score for errors. Two contestants correctly picked Paris as the champion - bball89 and MNCM. No contestant picked NewCath to make the finals. 18 of the 25 contestants picked LCA to win the championship.   2. It's time once again for the Kentucky All-A Classic, and as such it is also time for the BGP All-A contest. The format is simple. Pick the 8 first round winners and receive 1 point for each correct choice. Pick the 4 quarterfinal winners and receive 2 points for each correct choice. Pick the 2 semifinal winners and receive 3 points for each correct choice. Pick the champion and receive 5 points for the correct choice. There are 27 possible points. The first tiebreaker is the total number of points scored in the championship game. The second tiebreaker is time. The deadline is 8:00 AM, Thursday January 26. Entries posted after that time will not be considered for inclusion in the contest.   3. The newest home gymnasium in the 10th Region, Robertson County High School, serves as the site for this year's Class "A" Tournament. This annual January get-together has long been dominated by Bishop Brossart, winners of the last 5 tournaments and 11 of the last 12. Mike Code's Mustangs do not seem to be as invincible as they've been in previous years, but the team possesses the firepower to claim the hardware again. Paris and second-year head coach Terence Brooks enter as the tournament's highest-rated team, having garnered impressive wins this year against Lexington Christian and Montgomery County. Jason Hinson's Augusta squad owns the most wins of any participant, and the Panthers are familiar with winning tournaments, being the two-time defending 39th District champs. There's much more parity than in previous years, but we look for one of those 3 clubs to be cutting down the nets on January 17th. Note: The Girls 10th Region Class A is being held at the same venue & brackets are the same for it. On each date you see below, there are girls games preceding boys games. Andrew Sticklen - 6'5" Sr. (St. Patrick): Saints' go-to-guy leads the 10th in rebounding. 5. Jekobi Wells - 6'2" Soph. (Paris): Young swingman has a very high ceiling. 6. Connor Maddox - 5'11" Jr. (Augusta): Panthers' leading scorer is more than just a shooter this year. 7. Jonathan Zink - 6'1" Sr. (Bishop Brossart): Mustangs forward has been consistently productive all season. 8. Dawson Cooper - 6'2" Sr. (Robertson County): Black Devils' leader had a solid tournament in 2013-14. 9. Spencer Hackworth - 6'1" Sr. (Bishop Brossart): Brossart's leading scorer is deadly from the perimeter. 10. Devin Trussell - 6'0 Sr. (Nicholas County): Didn't play last year, but has made up for lost time this year. Upset Alerts While Bishop Brossart drew the short straw in getting the Play-In game, the Stangs seem destined to be playing in the title game. Nicholas County is Brossart's play-In game opponent. Roger Newton's roster is deep, but Nicholas comes into the tournament having lost its last 2 games. Unseating the 5-time defending champs on Friday night could require a Herculean effort on the part of the Bluejackets. Beyond the Play-In game, it's hard to imagine a scenario where Silver Grove, Calvary Christian, or Robertson County stops Code and company. The lower bracket appears to be the more intriguing half. Paris will meet Bracken County in a rematch of last year's quarterfinals, won by the Greyhounds, and this contest will feature the tournament's top two individual players. An upset is not out of the question, but Terence Brooks' bunch should advance. The Greyhounds' chances could very well hinge on the status of Jakobi Wells, who missed Tuesday's matchup with George Rogers Clark. Augusta will be favored in its quarterfinal matchup with St. Patrick. The Panthers have beaten the Saints twice already this year: by 2 points in Maysville on December 5th and by 19 points in Augusta nearly a month later. In short, the biggest upset would be a semifinal round without the Mustangs, Greyhounds, and Panthers.   4. Here are the much-anticipated results of the 2015 All-A Boys Basketball tournament contest. Much-anticipated because I forgot to tabulate them. The maximum possible score in the contest was 27 points - 8 opening-round games at 1 point each, 4 quarterfinal games at 2 points each, 2 semifinal games at 3 points each, and 5 points for the championship game. We had no perfect scores in this year's contest, We did have one score of 26. Congratulations to sealedpower on his near-papa...sorry, I meant near-perfect score. There is no prize awarded to the winner of this contest - simply the pride of ownership and satisfaction of defeating the likes of Randy Parker, Lawnboy13, polarbear98 and LCDAWGS19. In other words, the Washington Generals of BGP. Even if you can'r score one of those sweet BGP hoodies, that alone should keep you warm and snuggly tonight.
