It is not about dodging it is about playing in your true class. If a school wanted to they could say ok we are full and no more students we can not hold more than say 350 to stay in a lower class which I do not think this is an issue anywhere but to allow a team to play out of class because of safety and travel expense and not to allow another pretty much for the same reason and numbers dropping really is a double standard in my opinion. Marshall Co. is a little over a 2 hour drive from Owensboro and they came here 3 times this year 2 for district games against Daviess Co. and Apollo and a non district game against Owensboro that is pretty bad and actually 6A would acommidate Highlands if they really wanted to go up there because there is only 5 teams in that district and that would make it 6. There are districts with 6 teams if I am not mistaken. Like I said before Highlands is in a class like T and X ever since they started winning state title on the average of 7 out of every 10 years and in my opinion would make them even a bigger national power to move to 6A and play T and X and Male every year talk about kids wanting to come there as opposed to any other NKY school. WOW can you imagine. For the enrollment numbers I would say Highlands has almost 50% of the boys in the school playing football. I would even go out on a limb and say that their freshman team out numbers most of the 5A varsity teams I know it would ours. That in itself is good reason to move all the way up to 6A but hey if not that is fine all of us in 5A will just take our shot every year and eventually somebody will pull a rabbit out of the hat and knock you off your purch for a year but for the most part 5A and 6A are a forgone conclusion from now until whenever something changes. I liked what they used to do where you had a state at large state champ then you went on to play Trinity or St X or Male for the overall state title in the old classes. Maybe they should do that with all the classes now. Since pretty much they have it aligned where there is going to be a powerhouse long run as in years of teams winning state title after state title. OK enough on my opinion and it will be an honor to be the team to try and knock off those Bluebirds come December at the pizza box if we get that far. You know one way to start is you play in your class nobody plays up or down you are classified by your numbers period no exceptions. That would solve some of the issues. I do not think any team should be allowed to play up in class you play your class and that is it. We have a school coming from 6A to 5A next year in District 1. I do not know the reasoning behind any of the teams that are in question the following is just my opinion and that is it. You know with Highlands playing up they are pretty much giving a team in 3A a state title every year that really doesn't deserve one and well taking away a state title from a team in 5A that they should not be playing against. I do not want to start an argument with you Highland people that will argue every case I am just stating the obvious in the last comment. If the KHSAA wants to be more reputable maybe they need to start by saying here is your enrollment here is your class here is your district and Region and play football. Nobody will be playing up nobody will be playing down and everybody is going to live with it regardless of who you are. Strictly based on enrollment. Highlands plays a tough non-district schedule every year and are above and beyond most of the schools in the state in any class so why would you play in 5A rather than 3A or 6A? Just a question not a fight. It makes our guys in 5A have to raise the bar to win but hey that is what it is all about but just wondered the reasoning behind it all and don't quite understand it either.

Totally agree! The coach runs the team and if he wants spagetti at 5PM don't bring in steaks at 3:30. That is just disrespectful. Most everything should be ran by the coach before anything is planned for the week's game. What time should the boys eat? What should they eat? How much and what not. I know some of us think we are the next Vince Lombardi trust me I have been there I question plays and question other things that is human nature but our coach is still the coach win or lose and I definately do not want the job he has. I hear people in the stands every Friday night and I know if I was on the sidelines I probably could not handle all the Vinces in the stands. Best thing is to keep it to yourself if it is negative because it will hurt someone around you. This past week for us a prime example we had a 20 point lead with 7 minutes to go and I still do not know what happened but we give up 4 TDs in the last 7 minutes and lose the game. Everybody disappointed dejected and upset especially on our own field people saying if we had kicked a FG early on 4th and long or maybe we kick the XP points instead of going for 2, why were we passing the ball up 20 all these things I heard leaving the field that night and some were also thoughts of mine but instead of bashing the coach and players for mistakes I questioned some plays with friends and parents in the parking lot and it was over. When the boys came out I told some of them it is just one game forget it and get ready for next week. I know the coaches and most of the players probably looked back and said had we done this or had we done that but hind sight is 20/20 and you have to move on. Our coach probably felt bad enough about the lose and he did not need to have anyone question anything and to my knowledge nobody didn't because he is still our coach and regardless if he makes mistakes and we lose a game or we win a state title some day he is still our coach regardless and you always have to take the good with the bad and I wouldn't want my son playing for anyone else. The moral of the story is not for a coach but for all those naysayers and people being talked about keep your mouths shut and coordinate things with the coach and it all goes great win or lose. And trust me you are not going to be the next Vince Lombardi and neither am I so be positive for the players and the coaches it will go a long way. :walk::walk::walk:

OHS was up 34-14 with about 6 minutes to go in the game and I still do not believe what I watched 4 straight turnovers. The game should have been over but good job by Christian co. On the comeback but the classless going to midfield and jumping up and down on the OHS logo and the things they were saying was totally uncalled for and truely tasteless. But hey they are kids and I blame that on the coaches for that display.

I see OHS winning this game 21-7 or 24-7 way too much speed all over the field for CC. But hey you never know I could be wrong.

Yeah that is right should be a good game possibly if it all works out. Doss has not reported any stats at all but looking at a few of the scores from teams both have played this could be a good game. I may be wrong. Christian Co. has not submitted any stats either so we really know nothing about them except film.

Not too bad of course I am sure they have had a few big gainers angainst some weaker teams to help the average as most of the boys in the state have but still quite impressive hope to see that first hand in the playoffs this year. We have one RB averaging about 10 yards a carry and 4 WR averaging right at 20 yards a catch and here is our scarry stat we have forced 27 TO in 7 games 13 INTs and 14 Fumbles in which 5 were returned for TDs. We might be a good matchup for you guys come December.

Hey I have a question? Not to be smart or anything but if those 2 guys are averaging 10 and 14.3 yards per carry why would the QB have any stats? Just a thought!

I would like to nominate Yorel Shemwell Senior RB (5'8" 194 Lbs.) from Owensboro he rushed 9 times for 137 yards and 2 TD's in just a little over one half of play in OHS's 48-0 win over Meade Co. Also want to give props to OHS's sophmore kicker Trey Cain (6' 0" 149 Lbs) who set a new career long 44-yarder in the game as well. Also Yante Williams (5' 8" 162 lbs) Senior OHS all-state DB who had 1 catch for 88 yards and a TD and another INT for a TD which I think was his 2nd on the season and his state leading 7th INT of the year.

I see Owensboro saying alive this week. I think they have a better chance to lose at Henderson next week than at home this week to Christian Co. Hendo is always pretty tough at home.

Rash Stadium is a turf field so rain will really not play a role in a sloppy field or anything. Maybe a wet ball. So may be a few fumbles but other than that it should be football as usual for the players but for us parents it will be a wet night. Heck I may have to take a change of clothes and go to the locker room at halftime myself! LOL!

If it is then there is no competition in 2A. Ft Campbell should win this and win it big!

This game is for the District 1 title. Owesnboro won both meetings last year the first game was at CC which was close and the 2nd was at OHS which wasn't close at all. So what do you think???

Apollo is pretty much for the most part the same football program they are known more for basketball and baseball and well last year they lost in OT to go to the sweet 16 in basketball and lost in the state semis in baseball to the state champs. I agree with you though the far western side of the state is struggling in football I can remember when I was in college it was Mayfield, Heath, Tilman from down in that area and you knew they were going to be a force every year and lately that is just not the case and with the way I think football is headed in the state they may never be a factor again.

Man was I very surprised at this game after seeing that John Hardin only beat them 16-0 I figured that this may be a barn burner since JH is suppose to be the best of the west but needless to say maybe the best of the west is in my own backyard! Jeb it was nice meeting you Friday night and keep those boys working hard I saw some good things that they did and the turnovers kept them out of the game for sure. Thanks for the compliments on the boys I hope you are right I think as parents we are all going to cut internet access for them until after the playoffs. Being a young team sometimes they do not know how to handle being talked about and sometimes let it go to their heads. I hope that isn't the case and I am sure our coach will make sure of that. Our kicker is not too bad either he has been kicking a football since the 7th grade and we have 2 more years with him so you will get to see him again next year when we come to see you guys hopefully. I don't know what the schedule is for next year yet. Minus a minimal amount of seniors that we have this will pretty much be our team next year. We have some key players that are seniors but hopefully we will have someone waiting to step in to those roles and not miss a beat.

Well Owensboro has played Hopkinsville and will play Christian Co. in 5A played Daviess Co. in 6A and also played Evansville Reitz in Indiana ranked in the top 10 overall in the state of Indiana. Also played #6 in 2A Owensboro Catholic and if Henderson Co. wins this week they may crack the top 10 in 6A before we play them. So that would be 5 ranked in the state and we are 6-0 but of course we are ranked #4 in 5A and #7 overall in the state on maxprep. But the state rankings are really not close since there is such a drop from the top 1 or 2 down to the rest in each class.

Not a problem I had to do a ton of research so I could see who I needed to root for from our district to knock off Bowling Green! Just Kidding!

Birdfan I think that is correct the way the brackets read #1 from one district would meet #2 from the other district on each end of the bracket if all higher seeds were to win or #1 would play #3 from their own district if there was an upset if I understand it correctly. It would look like this as an example Say Highlands is District A and Johnson Central is district B A #1 vs B #4 A#3 vs B #2 B#1 vs A#4 B#3 vs A#2 Then A #1 vs the winner of A#3 B#2 and B#1 vs B#3 A#2 So if all pairings playout as to higher seeds winning the 2 #1 seeds would not play until Round 3 or you would not play #2 in your district until round 3 as well. Honestly I like this format better than playing the teams you have already played during the season.
