Most teams that are good will have D-1 talent. I think it takes both to win championships. Danville just has not had the stand out talent they had in the really good years. But their are some really good talent prospects on the team. One other factor that helps offset talent is dedication in the weight room, Danville football players used to be much more physical than they are now and they took pride in it. I think this is where the coaching staff has failed, they need to motivate the players to take this part of the program developement much more seriously.

I don't think so, I feel confident that Danville's past Championship teams would have been in the Championship games facing the same competition they have faced the past couple of years, and some of the teams they would have dominated hands down.

He may have been the missing piece to the puzzle this year to get them over the top. Tryston Ford was the only player they had this year that had big play capability. Brand would have given them another big play maker and made it harder to shut the offense down. After the Somerset game, I was listening to the Somerset radio post game show and Somerset's coach said they keyed on Ford and were not going to let him have a big game and beat them. If Brand was playing that would not have been possible.

I definitely agree about Brand. He was a tremendous football player.

 

Who will be the playmakers over the next couple of years?

When Mayfield used to face Danville they were almost like a mirror of the Cards. Well coached and they had more than one playmaker. They always had a physical line. Well coached but they had talent too. Has the talent well run dry, I mean the kind of talent that dominates teams and wins state championships. Danville had teams that could play with anybody in the state. Where have they gone?

I've seen Danville play the last 3 seasons. It seems to me the Admirals biggest problem has been up front on both sides of the ball. They just haven't been very physical. Somerset has just dominated the Admirals on both the offensive and defensive lines of scrimmage and I'd wager that has been the case in most of their losses. They seem to still have speed and some very good athletes but they don't have the big, physical, athletic linemen that they used to have. They have played soft and just weren't nearly as athletic as the Briar Jumpers in their meetings.

Don't know, but he needs to really work on his accuracy and decision making if he is going to be the starting QB.

That's a good point. Over the last few years Somerset has been a "mean" team (and I don't mean that in a bad way) that can intimidate some teams. I haven't seen Danville's clubs the last few years have that mean streak that can fight right back. I think that's part of the reason why the Jumpers have beat them several times in a row. Danville seems to be trying to win on talent and tradition, but the Admiral teams from the last few years pale in comparison to the old squads.
