I wouldn't overlook Victor Cruz of the G-men

Updated stats:

 

Newton 3093 yards/61%/12 TD/14 Int plus 464 yards rushing and 10 TDs.

 

Dalton 2509 yards/ 60.1%/16 TDs/12 Picks plus 81 yards rushing and 1 TD.

 

I'm thrilled to have Dalton but Cam should get the award as of today.

He was outstanding in the pre season game vs. the Jets last year but got injured and was out for the season. This is basically his first regular season as an NFL player though.

I'd love to know what Newton's numbers are minus a few 4th quarter drives that lead to TD's where his team had no chance to win the game. I know he had two big drives when the winner of the game was no longer in doubt but they got back door covering TD's. I don't think Dalton has any of those yards or scores.

 

From looking at their box scores they've also blown some leads in the second half. Of course that could mostly be blamed on the Defense. I'll take Dalton and his come from behind wins over Newton and his blown leads and garbage time scores and yards against Chicago and GB.

I think Dalton will win it if Cincinnati makes the playoffs.

Dalton is at least making it a good conversation on who should win. He has definitely had a really good season so far and deserves recognition. I still think you have to give it to Cam though. If the Panthers had any D whatsoever they would probably be sitting at 7-4 right now as well. 5 games have been decided by 7 points or less, and against some very good competition (Packers, Saints, Bears).

You must be a homer to even think that Dalton situation was worse than Newton's. Carolina was 1-8 last year, not to mention their schedule was IMO tougher than the Bengals.

Also, I said with the exception of Carolina. That means I acknowledged that their situation was as bad if not more so than Cincinnati's. The last thing people on here would call me with regards to the Bengals is a "homer". :lol:

 

UKMustang is definitely not a homer of the Bengals. The only thing UKMustang is guilty of, and apparently still guilty of is being a poor evaluator of a team. I tried to tell him before the season that the Bengals had a lot of good talented young players, and had the pieces to do pretty well. Yet he chose not to believe me, and well we all know how that has played out now.

 

As for rookie of the year. Dalton does need a lot of consideration. However most people are wrong when people say Dalton stepped into a bad situation. He stepped into a situation with a lot of young offensive talent, and a new OC who would play to his strength's. Newton took over a team that scored less than 10 offensive touchdowns last year or something like that. The Bengals had a good young team Dalton came to, especially adding Green. Even though most people couldn't see that. So I would give it to Newton right now, because he has done more with less. However Dalton would at least be in the discussion.

I would have lost a bar bet on the pass completion percentage. Any other year it's Dalton's to lose but it's really hard to look past those rushing numbers that Newton has put up.

The Green Bay game was close throughout, I don't remember if the Chicago game was though. However if your going to count Newton's yard total in games when trying to come back, then you can't count Dalton's in games they lose while trying to come back. I believe Dalton's two biggest yardage games have came against Denver and the Ravens. Two games where the Bengals were down a few scores and had to air it out the rest of the game to try to come back. We all talked about after those games how Dalton gave them a chance to comeback by doing that. So the same has to be said for Newton.

 

Obviously I would LOVE to see Dalton win rookie of the year. He would deserve it if he were to win it. However I just have to give it to Newton because his numbers for the overall with everything he does is better. Not to mention he has done more than less. I said all off season that the Bengals had good players on their team, so IMO Dalton did not go to a team with not much around him like Newton did. Last year Carolina scored less than 10 offensive touchdowns.

I know that he won't win, but to throw another piece into the puzzle, if DeMarco Murray had been playing from the beginning of the season in Dallas, would he be considered? I think so.

 

You make a good point about Murray. Considering the way he's played in fewer games, if he played more or all of the season, he could be in the lead.
