Surprise players in 06?

What year will Draper be in the fall? Who else is up for the qb job?

He will be a junior. He was the only one to play JV. There were two QBs at the frosh level. The way it shapes up is Draper is the 1 and the two sophs battle for the 2 spot. I would have liked to have seen Draper some playing minutes this past season, especially in the blowouts.

Don't be surprised to see Clay Cecil getting a shot at qb also. I'd rather Cecil play lb on d and have Draper play qb, but Dale doesn't listen to my advise very often...ok, never!

Clay was the primary QB on the undefeated Frosh team in 04. But he did not take one snap in a JV or Varsity game in 05. Would it be very difficult to skipping a year at the QB position and then jumping into varsity play? On the other side , does a full year of JV play and no varsity experience have you ready for varsity play? Why didn't Cecil play some QB last year. I know he saw quality minutes as a LB in varsity games.

I believe the lil Sarge is the better choice for center. Smart, quick, tough...sounds like an able fill for the boy who left. Alex would have to think too much at center, and that's when he gets in trouble! :jump:

I agree with Ln. on this DMZ76, Schlosser should stay at guard, he moves to well to play center and Dale doesn't like to play his center on defense. Ben would make an excellent defensive lineman. I've heard that Ben's been working with a personal trainer and it shows. I hope all the kids this year are as dedicated as he has been!

Rob Madon of Corbin
.

Madon along with Kevin French and Michael Campbell, who did not suit up last year, should be big-time players for the Hounds. I expect breakout seasons for a couple of other Redhounds next year! :sssh:

Joe Roskopf from Lynn Camp should have a huge year for LC. He finished with over 1000 yards, and close to 600 of them coming in the last 3 games. Sidney Wagner is another player who has been working hard this off season, and could have a breakout year at runningback. What will really help the young backfield for LC is a very good offensive line, which will see all the starters back but one. Lynn Camp was one of the top rushing teams in Class A this past year.

I don't honestly thing anyone will have a break out season and make a run for mr. football the winner of this award usually has a pretty good level of noteirity before their senior season.

He has worked and is working hard and I'm sure the vast majority of the other kids are also working just as hard. My guess is that he stays at the guard spot unless Dale simply cannot find another center and he's forced to slide Schlosser into the spot. I doubt however that will be the case. If I'm a lineman that didn't start last year but wanting to get some playing time or perhaps even start this year, I'm learning the center position as quickly as I can.

Is there a stigma about playing center? It seems to me if there was only one open spot I'd be going for it. The center last season was a pretty big fella, is he getting any looks from the next level?

No stigma whatsoever. If anything, its generally considered one of the most critical places on the o line. The only downside if you will as pointed out by FT is that historically Dale has not permitted the center or the qb to play any defense at all. Dale has also generally put one of his bigger linemen at center, but it has to be someone with decent quickness. When I said "if Dale can't find someone to play center" I meant someone good enough to play the spot to Dale's satisfaction. I am sure there will be several kids trying out for the position and I agree with you about it being the one open spot and the non starting returning players should/will be going for it. I don't know if Abell is getting any looks.

John Cole should have a huge year for Somerset. He was ranked all year long in receiving yardage and was only a sophomore this season. He should do much better this year as him and Deaton at quarterback will have matured greatly.

John Cole was (is) a VERY good football player -- and his coach does a good job highlighting his skills in the system he runs.

Deaton was one of the best "all-around" qb's we saw last year -- that's high praise considering the others I'd put in that category were Diehl of NewCath and Pugh of Paintsville (probably the best "runner" we saw considering RB's, QB's, receivers, etc.).

Add in Olinger from Hazard to those 3, and you can see that the qb position in single-A on the "eastern" side of the state was LOADED last year.

Thankfully for us, TWO of those 4 will have graduated next year!

My surprise player for the Dixie Colonels is Jared Lucas. I believe he will work hard and earn a spot in the off season.

He's about 5'6 140lbs of solid muscle. He has wheels and cuts like a gazelle. The kid is an awesome talent an could shatter some records if he only does two things. One works out in the off season to get bigger, 10 to 20 pounds of muscle and two learns the playbook and proper techniques as they pertain to his position inside and out. Right now he is playing on just pure talent in my opinion. Couple that with a little more football smarts and he will make alot of people stop and take notice. Going to a camp or getting some personal coaching would make a world of difference. He has all the physical tools to succede in a huge way. Anyone who watched him this year knows what I'm talking about. He is going to be a huge part of our success this coming year. Everyone who is familiar with Dixie Football this past season knows about Mosier. Maloney, Bricking, Gibson, Detmer, and Neugent. But Lucas has the ability to go off the charts if he puts in the work this off season.

Lucas is a great pick for this ! If he puts in the work in the off-season , he very well could have a break-out year !!! :thumb: The key will be in the OFF-SEASON WORK ! Tyler Day also could be another one if he works on his techniques and the playbook ! He has all the tools in place ,at 6-2 , 200+ lbs and great speed . If he has a good off-season and gets in to some camps to develop his football skills . Tyler could also be one . TEAM FIRST ! DIXIE PRIDE !!!

Any ideas on who could be a breakout player next year and make a run for mr. football?

I know a player on GRC who could if he is given the ball. Client Greene.
