I agree, Ashland lost a lot of great talent to be tabbed as the favorite. I look of JC to be the frontrunner.

I agree with you Kick. Ashland will reload and should have a very good team. But, JCHS will be hard to beat on the road this year.

I think you would have to add Brad Schmitt - DL, David Barrito - Saftey, and Harrison Huelsman - DB to that list. I believe these players will anchor the defense. Barrito, Huelsman and Pat Bisig will lead the back seven. Schmitt should be the leader of the D-line. Eckman will be a solid, lead by example guy for the offense. The guys you mention are mostly juniors who are going to be really good players but there are some good seniors who will be the leaders next year.

In the spirit of the thread, I think the surprise players for X next year will be Duece Finch on offense and Brad Schmitt on defense.

That's why I did not mention them - they are a given.I tried to pick the guys that have not played much varsity yet and will make an impression.

Understood. Yes, these guys got playing time last year, but I named them only because I think they have the opportunity to make the most noise this year. ie: role player (little recognition) last year -- big year this year.Lots of talent to choose from. As is every year, it will be fun to see who steps up and takes thier turn in the limelight. I think, due to the program coach runs, it is seldom that a 'young' one really pops into a starring role as happens at other schools. So often, the guys at X only have 1 - 1 1/2 years to make a name for themselves on the varsity level. So there are not as many 'surprise' players.

I wouldn't necessarily call this kid a surprise player, but if you are ever in southeast Ky. on a Friday night and want to see a playmaker on defense, go by Williamsburg and watch Aaron Root play linebacker. This past season he was in on over 160 tackles. Very instintive and plays, forgive the expression, "balls to the wall", like every play could be his last.

that kid can play ball, I have heard rumors he may be moving from center to fullback on offense.

Dalton Cissell - North Bullitt High School - Rushed for 1,026 yds as a freshman last season with over 1,300 all-purpose yds. Scored 9 rushing TD's, also scored on his first touch in varsity football with a 75 yd KO return in the opening game; kicked 11 PAT's; threw a 1/2 back pass that covered 83 yds and returned an interception for TD for 85 yds. Averaged 7 yds a carry.

This past weekend finished 4th in 175 lb class at State Powerlifting meet with a 250 lb bench and 500 lb Deadlift. Split carries last season with 2 senior RB's. Will carry the load this year behind a very good line and should be up around 1,800+ yds rushing this year as only a sophomore.

Will be hearing a lot about this kid in the next few years.

Thats a bold predicition, are you kidding? No one from EKY will get that kind of attention unless your names Tim Couch.

Sadly I have to agree here, Ron Blume last year was the closest in recent years, and Grimmy has some big shoes to fill, he is similar to Blume, but he has his work cut out, he knows it, and we all have great faith in him and know he will progress as summer comes and goes.... as for those rankings earlier, w/ JC in a "distant" 3rd, and ashland a favorite w/ LC in 2nd... it is way to early for me to make any predictions.. However, I will say that the district will be alot closer than some ppl think, should be a great bunch of games:thumb:

Hmmm looks like you all forget #24 Kasey Clark I mean look at all his stats now and last year just imagine if he had a breakout year

I don't think so, he was mentioned in the first of this thread. And I'm not so sure I would classify him as a surprise player! All the teams that will play Russell this year will be aware of #24.
