My personal favorite would be #20 from JCHS. Shawn Grim...he has almost as much speed as Blume, but he's a little stronger. He doesn't mind running through a defender or two to get his yards.

HHS QB Jay Draper is going to open eyes this coming season. He's been waiting in the wings playing JV and second fiddle to the Cecil/Hudy soap opera. Strong accurate arm, solid decision making skills, and can hand-off to great running backs with the best of them!! If Dale chooses to mix it up offensively, he's the man to do it with. He's the only "true" QB that is seasoned on the roster.

What will be a huge plus for Draper will be a veteran offensive line. Only the the center was a senior, with the other four being juniors and a sophomore that got a couple starts due to injuries. Of course the plethora of running backs aren't a bad thing either.

I heard the Schlosser boy is moving from guard to center and big Alex Hempfling is slotted to take over the guard position. Alex spotted for the Koop boy at tackle last year as a sophomore. About 6'3" / 245-250 and runs extremely well. Lil' Sarge will do well at the center spot. Smarts and a great work ethic!

As good as the defense is touted to be, the O may be very conservative next year. Look for a heavy dose of Kramer, Ball, Hurtt, and Connor, not to mention Marchetti, and Theiss, and probably a couple not coming to mind at this moment.

The kid to keep an eye out for will be Ryan Brandenburg, linebacker and fullback for North Laurel. This kid is an animal. Coach Abbott described him as a linebacker who "has a great nose for finding the football and is in a bad mood when he gets there". This kid had a phenomenal sophomore season, leading the team in tackles when Cessna was lost to injury and he will just get better. He has just the bad attitude you like for linebackers to have.

I doubt that anything has been decided at this time. Might make more sense to keep returning starters in the positions they played last year and fill in the one open spot with the new starter. Dale has traditionally put his bigger and slower linemen at the center position. The Schlosser kid isn't exactly what you'd call big, but he does run well. The way Dale pulls his tackles and guards, I see Schlosser remaining at a guard position. Might make more sense to put Hempfling at the center position.

There are still a couple of names to throw in the mix on O line Eagan,Dowling, and acouple others that played well on JV. The question may be who plays D line? HHS has plenty of LBs and Dbacks returning, but only one starter (Kidwell on Dline). Would it make sense to take one or two of the O line guys and let em play D. I realize HHS D philosophy on D line is to be quick before big, but against the powers ( St X, Colerain, and Desales) that had big on Oline , Big prevailed. Also to have any lineman go both ways against these teams is asking an awful lot.

I believe the lil Sarge is the better choice for center. Smart, quick, tough...sounds like an able fill for the boy who left. Alex would have to think too much at center, and that's when he gets in trouble! :jump:

How true...I wondered why Hempfling wasn't seeing any time on D last year....even if it was to give some linemen a blow. He certainly had the size to compete. Hopefully Brady Dowling, Adam Reis (center?), Eagan, Owens or even frosh Rosenhagen, Dempsey, or Daly will step up and open some eyes.

Agreed as to your comment about the other possible o linemen. I actually see Eagan as the starting center if he can stay healthy. Big, strong kid. Hopefully Dale will see the wisdon of using Dowling, Jurgens, Owens, Reis etc as d linemen and let last year's starting o linemen return to their positions so they can take advantage of the experience they gained. It really makes a difference when you start the position for a second year; usually huge improvement. It would be a shame in my opinion to move them to different positions and waste the experience they gained last year. I doubt you'll see any lineman start both ways. You may see a couple of them play a little bit on both sides of the ball just to develop some needed depth (which has been Dale's philosophy in the past). As for matching up with the X's, Colerain's and DeSales' of the world, our biggest strongest linemen would still be overpowered if we played toe to toe (where do they find some of those kids, their huge), so I think our best philosophy is to continue to emphasize speed and quickness. Our inexperience on d last year hurt us more in those games than our lack of size did in my opinion. And to move some of last year's starting o linemen to start instead on d this year, and replace them on o with new starters means we have inexperience on both sides of the line. Just doesn't make sense to me.
