So because the event is gaining prestige and growing it should be punished? NCAA rules apply to all student athletes, not just highly recruited ones. The fact that better players are playing should make no difference at all. Come on now...

Your putting words in my mouth. This event has been held in the past with only small in- state schools with narry a word. This is about Findlay Prep and other out of state schools with recruits that UK is looking at being invited this year for some reason. Don't blame the NCAA totally, except fot their timing, blame the organizers and if your the teams, just cancel,it's only a scrimmage. I honestly knew this was going to be trouble when I saw the teams on the schedule to play in this event, all you need is an SEC Coach to complain and then there you go.

Those Sweet 16 games are sanctioned by the KHSAA. This sporting event wasn't sanctioned, therefore I guess the NCAA could make a move. Sounds ridiculous, but I think we have became accustomed to the idiocy of the NCAA in my opinion.

I can see if events are on campus, but off campus I do not see how the NCAA thinks it has the authority to do anything.

Just goes to show you what kind of assanign thinking that goes on theses days.

So had these scrimmages been sanctioned by the KHSAA, would this be a problem? I know that the KY schools had to write a letter to the KHSAA for approval to play in this event. This event has been going on for years- I remember watching a kid that went to UNC play at Rupp many years ago as a high school player in this event. Seems like poor decision making and timing by a lot of people who don't care at all about kids.

It's a shame that the dreams of hundreds of kids will be ruined because of 1 potential recruit. Will the regular season events by this company be cancelled at Rupp and the Yum Center?

 

If this is the extent of a kid's dreams then he or she is in pretty sad shape IMVHO. Not to single you out for this but I can't believe how melodramatic some in this thread are. They've changed the venue of a basketball SCRIMMAGE not canceled an audience with the queen.

It's possible to have more than one dream in life and I think a majority of high school age kids who play high school basketball would relish the opportunity to play at Rupp Arena. That's not an opportunity many kids from Kentucky will get. My son will be playing in the showcase held on December 11 and everyone involved with our program is very excited to play in Rupp Arena on that day. Especially the boys. They have been excited since they found out. We have a good chance to win our region and play there again but if we don't our boys will be able to say they played at Rupp Arena and that is a dream scenario for a lot of them. Some of the boys that were supposed to play there today will not get to now and for them who had that dream I do feel bad for.

If that event is moved can a school back out of it? We had to pay money and we have to sell an allotted number of tickets also. We can't sell those tickets for a showcase that is not going to be at Rupp.

The sponsor should file suit. I do not believe rupp belongs to uk. It belongs to Lexington.
