From what I am gathering this should not affect the state tournament. The ruling that came down at 10:05pm last night states that you cannot play any non-scholastic events on a collegiate campus or main practice facility. This showcase was not sanctioned by the KHSAA and therefore was "non-scholastic".

Am actually for the NCAA in this case, this used to be an event for only very small schools(from the state of Kentucky ONLY) that chances are would never get the chance to play in Rupp Arena at any other time and now this year for whatever reason(Calipari?) it is involving out of state prep schools and ranked schools with highly regarded recruits, that is the only reason the NCAA stepped in, as they should. Give it back to the small schools and there won't be a peep.

So because the event is gaining prestige and growing it should be punished? NCAA rules apply to all student athletes, not just highly recruited ones. The fact that better players are playing should make no difference at all. Come on now...

The sponsor should file suit. I do not believe rupp belongs to uk. It belongs to Lexington.

 

I agree. The NCAA shouldn't be able to control what the city of Lexington does with their arena.

Your putting words in my mouth. This event has been held in the past with only small in- state schools with narry a word. This is about Findlay Prep and other out of state schools with recruits that UK is looking at being invited this year for some reason. Don't blame the NCAA totally, except fot their timing, blame the organizers and if your the teams, just cancel,it's only a scrimmage. I honestly knew this was going to be trouble when I saw the teams on the schedule to play in this event, all you need is an SEC Coach to complain and then there you go.

AGREED! WOW! Just when you think that the NCAA couldn't do anything else ridiculous they go ahead and pull this garbage! Bleid Sports has a contract with Rupp, which is not owned by UK, not only that, but as others have stated, kids want to play at Rupp! That is why all the KY teams are in this, and why teams from all over the nation are coming, but does the NCAA care about these kids? NO! I hope that Bleid sues the NCAA and doesn't settle out of court, that way the NCAA can't say they lost a lawsuit. It doesn't matter who is playing on these teams or not, it's the fact that Rupp is not owned by UK, and that Rupp is not on campus.
