It sounds as if NCC fans are trying to prove themselves as the best here. They have already proven that they are the best last year and remain the best until someone beats them in 2A. No one from HC is saying that they arent the best and don't deserve their credit. They are the defending state champs for a reason. NCC is expected to win state. No one expects HC to win state. However, NCC has to go to what is expected of them this year first

What sparked that comment?

I think it is difficult to blame everything on coaching and give all credit to coaching. The players need to accept blame and take credit for situations like that as well. NCC won when it mattered and took care of business. You can't give all the credit to Schneider and blame Koz. Sometimes your kids have to accept the good with the bad. Congrats to NCC for the big win in '06. I hope this year is different. We will see Friday. If NCC wins, I will still cheer for them to win state because they are the local team. I wonder if NCC fans will do the same if HC wins?

I will give the win '06. This brings me back to the coaching factor....41-7 in the playoffs in '06.

I'm not saying it is ALL coaching but a turn around like that isn't just players getting better. It's a combination...not to mention that year that loss woke them up.

I agree that loss woke them up. They were a good team, but that proves on any night if you don't bring it you can get beat. I think the BW loss last year woke them up because they played great after that loss

I think this thread alone shows a rivalry that will be intense for a long time.

Signature wins are a matter of perspective. Here are my submissions. One that comes to mind is their 41-21 win at Conner last year. That was HC's first win against a 6A school. Also last year - beating DeSales at their place 26-14 in the 2nd round of the playoffs. In 2009, HC went down to play Pikevile, in their bowl game, in a wild crazy "Friday night lights" atmosphere, and won 32-14. 2009 was also the year that HC came within an eyelash of beating Beechwood and DeSales (both were losses in OT), but we are not counting "signature losses". HC has had some good battles with Holmes over the years (won some, lost some). In 2007, HC edged North Laurel in an early season road trip bowl game. The 2006 HC team did very well, going 8-3 with the split with NCC. To say that HC has "never" had a signature win is ridiculous. HC obviously can't compare with the overall success that NCC has had. That said, HC is a program that is always taking a step forward. What is wrong with "taking care of business" and winning games by large margins against teams that they are supposed to win? Yes, HC has lost games over the years when overmatched. However, the 3 HC losses this year were all against teams that are still playing this weekend. All 3 were close at halftime. The Beechwood is the only one that was flat out embarrassing because of what happened in that 3rd quarter. The other two games were a matter of a few more big plays made by Conner and NCC (HC had no reason to high their heads). Bottom line - NCC is the #1 2A team in the region...HC is #2. NCC views HC as a "door mat" (from a previous post I saw). HC does not view NCC with that level of disrespect, but as a "mountain" to scale in order to achieve greater heights. Edmund Hillary once said "it is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves". I prefer Dr. Seuss - "Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So...get on your way." Whether NCC likes it or not, NCC vs. HC is a rivalry that isn't going anywhere!

Very well said, I think that DeSales was a definite signature win, and it has led to HC expecting to make the third round. The next step is to beat NCC in the region final, and if it isn't this year, it will be realtively soon as Koz becomes a better coach and the talent at HC continued to flow.

Sounds to me lije the fear of a loss is setting for some fans. I know to many NCC fans that know a loss is possible for any fan to think that it can not happen. Bring on Friday.

hahahaha. I don't think they fear losing just yet, but I hope it happens

A loss is always a possibility. I don't think that anyone believes that NewCath will win just by showing up.

According to Hightchew on nky.com, its gonna be a blowout for them cause they will hold to HC to 14, if not less.

"I feel like our defense has done its job the whole year," NewCath quarterback Brady Hightchew said. "I think we can hold them to 14 points again, if not less."

Nothing about a blowout mentioned in there.

Sounds like you didn't like girls invading your hill. Get over it. :D

Wasn't that bad, although I did have to get up an hour earlier to get myself all "duded up". For three years I would just roll out of bed and head to school, now I had to look presentable for the "ladies".

If someone scores less than 14 points against the defending state champion, wouldn't it be implied that this game wont be close?

Hayes has played very well the last few weeks. Hightchew is a great athlete. HC has some really good athletes as well. I wouldn't count them out so early. This is why we play the game. I think it is going to be a close win for whoever wins

I would agree 100% with this statement.
