31-14 Breds in the regular season. Was the game really this close or was there late scoring to skew the perception? This game sounds like it could be a good one.

First half was close, the second not even close, NewCath dominated. The following was from the Enquirer the day after: After allowing Holy Cross (6-3 overall, 3-1 district) to score on touchdowns of 44 and 53 yards in the first half, NewCath limited the Indians to just 69 total yards in the second half, 47 of which came on the game's final drive with the outcome already decided.

I think it is difficult to blame everything on coaching and give all credit to coaching. The players need to accept blame and take credit for situations like that as well. NCC won when it mattered and took care of business. You can't give all the credit to Schneider and blame Koz. Sometimes your kids have to accept the good with the bad. Congrats to NCC for the big win in '06. I hope this year is different. We will see Friday. If NCC wins, I will still cheer for them to win state because they are the local team. I wonder if NCC fans will do the same if HC wins?

I know I would and I don't know why anyone wouldn't.

HC needs to win sometime to make this game a rival game........I hope they win a few in the next few years to make this battle more exciting!

All the ones I know will absolutely root for HC if they win. This whole thread has gone far astray of what I like to see. Both are very good teams, and I think this is the State Championship game. HC was certainly the best team NCC beat on their way to the state title last year. The other teams they beat after HC were no where nearly as good.

OK...I am actually going to ask a question this time! I am also representing both NCC and HC when I ask it. As much as we would like to think that Friday night might be the "State Championship game", how do we ignore the fact that there are two undefeated teams and another team with just one loss on the other side of the bracket when we make that statement? I really am not familiar with these particular 2A teams this year. However, their records seem impressive enough. I guess, if ignorance is bliss, then I must be a real happy guy! Just curious.

You have a point, but last year NCC played Owensboro Catholic for 2A title they were 13-1...and NCC beat them, in a blow out.

While I think that if HC beats Newport Catholic, this "rivalry" will become a legit RIVALRY. I am taking NC by 3 td's. You have to beat a team more than once in 11 years for it to be a rivalry.

I respectfully disagree. The true of definition of "rivalry" involves competition between two people or two teams. "Competition" is defined as when those two parties strive for a goal that can not be shared. With that strict definition, Holy Cross is more of a "rival" to NCC than Beechwood because of the common goal of a 2A KY state championship! This thread has over 140 posts and it's only Tuesday...it's a rivalry, trust me!

Any sports fan on the planet would disagree if they attended NCC vs. BW and NCC vs. HC. The atmosphere wasn't close. I understand your point but in reality it's not there.

I'm basing this on the fact that last year the same thing exisited. O'boro Cath was undefeated going into the finals and NCC blew them away. They had been averaging 58 points a game and didn't get inside NCC'c 35 yard line. I think this year's NCC team is not as good as last year, but either are those teams. Glasgow will win the west in my opinion, but historicallty these teams score a lot but can't stop the other team. They don't see teams with the defenses we have up here. This is all speculation, but I feel pretty good about my prediction.

I think without seeing the teams left it still typically is the case. Film on O-Cath showed a good offense but it was the teams they played (Danville and Murray) that were questionable. When the two teams took the field in the state finals it was evident that O-Cath was going to have trouble. The starting QB seemed to be 5'6. Still you need to respect that they are there and play the game.

wow...I always wondered why some threads on BGP were so much larger than others! Now I know.:ohbrother: It's like "adult recess".

But intertaining! :ylsuper:

Interesting...so you are basing your definition of rivalry on "atmosphere" rather what is at stake on the field? So is it more about the fans reaction to each other or their excitement toward their team (numbers they bring, cheering throughout game, tailgate ability(!), etc.) that makes atmosphere? Or it the lack of atmosphere (ultimately, a "true rivalry") due to a superior win-loss record of one team over another so much that team #1's fans are bored thinking "gee, do we have to play them again?" How many games does team #2 have to win for it to be a rivalry? How many games does team #2 have to lose for it to not be a rivalry? Watch how you answer some of these questions! Consider the UK-UT football border series...here's a quote..."in 2010 Kentucky once again failed to beat its other arch rival Tennessee, having lost 26 in a row to the Vols, the longest, and most disgraceful, losing streak by one team to another in college football". Rivalry? Yes/No? If NCC vs HC, Newport vs. Covington, Catholic vs. Catholic, 2A vs. 2A, Bred vs. Indian is not a rivalry, what is? Would it help if somebody could organize an effort to steal that annoying train whistle and throw it into the Licking River?:sssh: Would that help the atmosphere?

What is at stake is what is most important indeed! Is the UK/TENN game more exciting for UK fans or TENN fans? UK fans! Ofcourse you hate the horn...it goes off when Newcath scores! Just like we hated the canon!

Now we are cooking with gas!

Lol I'd like to see someone try to take that whistle from Mr. Burns, lol....it's only annoying to the people on the other end of the ball....I agree with CGG....it goes off every time NCC scores, of course you would hate it.
