I would be one, I will not say or wear anything NCC. It's NewCath or Newport Catholic, or nothing at all. My wife (a Highlands grad) loves to tease me about this. I'll tell you how bad the name change was, my JR year (82/83) a year before the "ladies" invaded our space, a certian individual would run over the sign at the bottom of the hill that said "Construction on the new Newport Central Catholic High School". After numerous repairs to it the sign never went back up.

 

I call them NewCath or NCC. Whichever. Why is this such a big deal, and still today?

Your best balanced team already got beat by 17 less than a month ago. Are you telling me that your players and coaching have erased those 17 points by playing Holmes, Carroll County and Owen County?

 

Nooooo....I never said that the results of the first game (a 31-14 game) can or should be "erased"...those are your words. I was comparing Holy Cross teams over several years to each another. History is history. NCC was the better team that night because they executed some big plays late in the game, stepped up their game defensively, and made fewer mistakes. That said, HC played very well until halftime. NCC made the better adjustments in the 2nd half. Just because the final deficit was 17 points does not make it a blowout. IMO HC has improved through the entire year for the reasons I've given in previous posts. If I'm right, this team will be able to learn from the first game and make adjustments. For previous HC teams, that would have been more difficult. I think this team will...enough to make a close game in the 4th quarter.

I'll give a history lesson. From 92-95, NewCath was looking up at Beechwood. They beat them in the regular season in '93, and w/ the exception of '94, there really wasn't a talent gap in one direction or the other. The difference was Yeagle. The man and his staff were out of this world good at game planning, and adjusting on the fly. That's the difference here. NewCath's staff has really, really progressed as much as the talent on the field has. They can go in at half time, blow up what they prepared all week for, and put the kids in the right position. You have about 3 offensive possessions to make your plays before they figure out where you are going. Beechwood took advantage of that last year in the regular season game, and HC will have to in this game. If they go in at the half only up by 7, or down, NewCath's mentality is, "Now its our turn." It has bitten them in the behind a little as they've started slowly in some games, but it seems that the engine is purring now.

Not on the film I saw, but the point I was trying to make was who cares. That game/scrimmage doesn't matter. Neither does any other game than this week. You missed the point

You're the one that mentioned the game, and I just watched the game on video, and although they didn't do kickoff/kickoff return and Newcath's 2nd/3rd string played the 3rd and 4th quarters, Newcath DID win 27-21. I didn't miss the point, if you gonna post something at least have your facts straight.

You did miss the point. The point was the game didn't matter at all. Since it matters to you, get a hobby. Go back and watch it again so you get your facts straight. Do you need a copy of it? It was 4 TD's for Cooper and 3 TD's for NCC. What was your point about the 2nd and 3rd team for NCC being in in the 3rd and 4th quarters? Cooper had their backups in as well. Again, since your not getting it, it doesnt matter

A lot of bull running thru here, I like it. Bottom line is HC has not faired well in the past but they have another chance this Friday. I like their chances. It is what it is, another shot at them and until they beat NCC it will be the same every time the two play, another chance at them.

Hard to explain, you have to be a "Bred" to understand. But I will say Clyde was right, "Old habits die hard". There was no need to add the Central to begin with. Hypothetically, If ND and CovCath merged and they called it Covington Central Catholic, I bet you the Park Hills Mafia and a whole lot more would feel just how plenty of us NewCath folks feel. Granted, it's not the end of the world, but we just don't like it.

I know what the point is, the game this week is all that does matter, I was just making my own point that if you're going to post something at least get it right!
