At least be fair. NewCath has had a program for 60 years. Holy Cross has had a program for 14 years. Know the numbers before you "quote" the numbers.

Well you are of course are incorrect as is gch_uk9 some what....... NCC has not been playing football for 60 plus years. Now if you want to include Newport Catholic numbers in that (and I know a lot of NewCath grads who weren't happy about the name change) then yes they have!

:D J/K NCC guy's!

NCC isn't playing Dixie in week 12 but did in week 0. Big difference in now and then for that team.

You must have been the only person in NKy that knew Dixie was going to implode this season, as most, even the NKy Coaches thought Dixie was going to be a tough out this season!

BTW welcome to BGP's..... Impartial......

Okay so I must admit that I am ignorant to all football facts since I am a newbie on BGP? Maybe I should've started out with "first time long time................". I, along with tons of other people thought Dixie would be top of the 6A class. The statement was made saying Dixie still was the top of the 6A class. When was NewCaths first season? Maybe Mexitucky could help me out. Obviously the more seasons you play the more regional championships you have the chance to play for. The post was set up to make it seem like HC has made a certian amount ton NCC's amount in the same amount of time.

Yes and you are are incorrect somewhat in saying I am incorrect. Newcath and NCC are the same program when it comes to boys sports.

This disscussion has gotten way off base. First meeting was 31-14. Both teams have gotten better. NCC QB is healthy...seemed to be a topic of debate. Holy Cross has out scored latest opponents 154-0... doesn't matter when it comes to playing Newcath. If Newcath plays a decent game they win, if they don't anything can happen, it is the playoffs.

Cooper won the 5A district up here. They cant be too bad. They beat NCC in their scrimmage at the beginning of the year. Does that matter? Of course not. BW beating HC this year, does that matter? Of course not. NCC letting less points be scored on their backups that HC's backups in the district, does that matter? Of course not. Most of these points people are tyring to make doesn't matter. This is the postseason. What matters is this week.

NCC beat Dixie, who was suppose to be soooooo good, without Pike(which was the main reason people thought they would be good). I guess, looking at NCC's schedule, their signature win was HC? Im sure they wouldn't say that, but who would it be? Most of the teams on their schedule have a losing record. I would like to know who NCC fans think was their big win, since HC didn't beat anyone but the Sisters of the Poor

You played the Sisters of the Blind! Come on man!

Unfortunately, when you take into account where they were when they played them, NewCath's biggest win would be Dixie, IMO. At the time, they hadn't imploded yet and who knows what would have happened if they had beaten NewCath. Momentum and confidence can carry a lot of teams. Of course, it may have just delayed the inevitable by a week also.

I'm going to harp on the same point that I harp on it every time these 2 teams play. NewCath consistently wins in the trenches and on the sidelines. Therefore, NewCath consistently beats Holy Cross. My take on Holy Cross is that they are a program that will beat the snot out of teams that they can "out athlete," because their skill players are very good. They actually, overall, may be better than NewCath this year. However, when a team has a line that is equal to or better than Holy Cross, they don't handle it well. Age of the program means NOTHING at this point. HC has been around long enough. They have had classes go through the peewee leagues to their JR. High team and on through. NewCath will win Friday b/c they consistently make the proper adjustments through the course of the game, and their linemen are better than HC's. HC will break some long passes, probably get some good kick returns, because they have a very good QB and skill players. However, NewCath will consistently move the ball, and that's the difference.

You think that Dixie was the signature win without Pike and moving their best WR to QB? Thats interesting

The talking back and forth about a “signature” win is silly! The only game that HC should be concerned about is the game played on October 22nd and how they are going to improve on a 17 point deficit. Newcath rolls on to the next round 42-7.

If you want to talk about signature wins,,,, Newcath has a few in their history, 1984, 2005, 2006, 2010.

NewCath and it won't be close. They just have HC's number.

That's why I said unfortunately. Who else would it be, Holy Cross? They were expected to beat them. McNick? They had lost everyone from the year before.

This is a pretty good assessment IMO (and I am in the HC camp). One thing I might add is that NCC kept their turnovers down in this year's first meeting. I remember a NCC/HC game a couple years ago when the center to QB snap was a real adventure for NCC (even though it did not affect the outcome). A turnover free NCC is tough to beat. A big difference in the last 3 games for HC is the pressure that they are bringing defensively off the snap. I am not a coach, but it seems that they have added a lot of variants in their blitzes that they did not have earlier in the year. Plus when they don't rush, they are staying in their assigned gaps longer. It definitely threw off Owen County's offensive protection package thereby creating turnovers. In order to win, HC needs to force NCC into this types of mistakes. If not, it will be the same type of winning situation for NCC. As I have mentioned, I would love to see the game close at the end with one of these two great QBs needing to step it up a notch and lead their team to victory (I just hope that QB is Fuller)! BTW, I can only speak for myself that I will try to take the "high road" and limit my comments to analysis and discussion of how the game can go as well as looking at the game in retrospect. I encourage all my HC buddies on here to do the same. Healthy criticism and teasing is one thing. IMO trash talking and bashing the opponent (especially, at this time of the year) is pointless and annoying. This is the two best teams in the region playing to see who advances. Anything can happen. That's the way it should be.

I do like that NCC/HC is turning into a good rivalry. We can always use more of those.

NCC was expected to beat and favored against everyone they played this year werent they? I could be wrong against BW, but since BW had so many people out I figured they were favored prior to playing

Stick with this year. The signature win was brought up by another poster. I just wondered how an NCC fan would assess this season.
