Thanks for your insight laniganfan29, But, for the record Arkansas Brewer just turned 15 years old and he will be eligible to play all his high school years. You should wish the youngman good luck, he's a great athlete.

 

For the record, 15-year-old eighth graders are few and far between. For the record, when he graduates he'll be closer to his 20th birthday than his 19th. For the record, many kids, myself included, graduate before they turn 18. Talk about a man among boys. The extra two years may help his athlticism.

I graduated as a 17 year old as well, and most of the athletes I played youth sports with were only Sophmores, when some of them received scholarships a few years later I never heard anyone saying, "Them guys are 19 years old". The fact of the matter is, students relocate and some times they get held back for scholastic reasons. All that really matters is whats's best for the youngman, as long as the student is eligible.

I guess I will go watch the best 8th grade Freshman play today, Arkansas " The ARK" Brewer, Newport's Freshman played Beechwood today at 3:00 at Newport.

I must admit that finding out about his age does take away some of the luster. Its simply a maturation process. Most 8th graders (of correct age) are not nearly as mature physically as a kid who, in some cases, is almost 2 years older. 2 years is a HUGE difference when you're talking about 8th grade.

I think he will play for Newport as well. I heard something about he may be adopted by someone and move somewhere down in the state (cant remember the name of city or school) and go to school and play down there. But that is just rumor as far as i know.

No, just a fan of all great athletes throughout Northern Ky. and would like to give these youngmen some credit when credits due. That's what so great about BGP, it lets everyone around the state hear about the best athletes in the area.

Thing is, since the kid is only an eighth grader, by his senior year he'll be playing against kids that are at least two years younger than him.

Interesting about this Brewer Kid..but some of you may need to make a trip out to Ockerman Middle School and watch their 6"6 8th grader play. He could play varsity and contribute right now for anyone. He should and could start varsity for Boone Co. The future looks bright for Boone out there. With Farris a Sophmore Mcfarland a Freshman and then this big kid right behind them smells like a regional contender down the road. Gray Middle school has Two 6"3 eighth graders also who are very good. The best over all class however will be Turkeyfoot/ Dixie's next years incoming class....

If you really think Andy should be starting for Boone County right now, then Boone must seriously be desperate for help. I have seen Big Andy play since he moved to the area afew years ago, he has developed a bunch but he still has a long ways to go before he should be starting for Boone County.

Speaking of 6'6" 8th graders....anybody got an update on the Roberts boy that left Highlands for Moeller a couple years ago?? Last I heard was he was sitting out due to knee (growth) problems. Has/will he ever play?

He played in a couple of games at least and had 8 points in one of them because I saw the highlights on TV.

cshs81 started a thread on him a few weeks ago. I think he's doing well at Moeller and is getting some PT - he may have actually started a few games.
