Highlands 8th grade wins again by 26pts over St Pius tonight! St Pius beat HMS early this season on a last second shot. HMS looks to be putting things together!

Who has the best 8th grade team in the ninth region this year?????

Give the young and up coming stars through out the state a little credit, everyone all over the state already knows Arkansas Brewer. High School Teams and AAU Divisions. I'm telling you, I've seen over 25 Freshman Teams and 20 AAU Teams play this season and there is no one player that is good as this youngman.

HMS has things going their way right now. I've heard that Ockerman has a good team and Grey beat HMS before x-mas. These are the only teams that I know much about. HMS hasn't played Ockerman yet, this should be a good matchup.

He might be the best 8th grader but I can't believe he's the best freshmen. George Grote shut him down in the game on Tuesday! If another 8th grader shut him down , I'd bet freshmen could. I'm not saying he's not a good player but he's getting alot of love from ya comparing him to 8th graders.JMO

I have seen the Grote youngman play the last couple of years, and he is an outstanding athlete, He gets a lot of respect from people and fans that I know throughout Northern Ky. ( I do, and will give credit to all these youngmen that I see play and know, of course it's only my opinion)!!!

I have seen most of the best 2010 players in AAU ball over the last few years in Kentucky in games, tournaments, and camps. He is very good, and there are several other very good players in this class throughout the area and state in my opinion.

Hey bballfanky, Tell us about the Gabbard and the Flannery youngmen. How good are they and where will they attend High School??

Your still going to be hard pressed to convince me a kid who is playing on 8th grade and freshman teams. Is better than a freshman who is making an impact on a top 5 varsity team in the region. i.e. Freshman PG Sheena Giwa at Holy Cross.

Arkansas Brewer and his mates were soundly defeated by Dixie's frosh tonight. Stephen Pompelio played his normal game and looked much stronger than Ark. Matt Metzger also looked pretty good in comparison to Mr. Brewer.

Eighth grade success doesn't always mean success at the high school level. Look at the current senior class at Dixie & Scott. The Turkeyfoot and Woodland were top of the class and staged some great games and the great things were predicted for both high schools from these feeder schools.

 

Scott & Dixie both appear to be solid programs and very good players still remain in each program, but I don't know if either has reached the level that was predicted from the middle school success.

 

Kids move out, other sports take precedence, priorities change, puberty finally evens out the playing field.

 

Only three of the Scott players remain from the team you are referring to (Howard, McCord, Whitehead). Brann, Strunk, Feighery, Brossmore, Best are focusing on other sports. Busse, Muzzillo, Kanafax, and Spradlin are playing at other schools.

 

Only two of the Dixie boys remain (Lawson and Cole). Keener and Groneman played for Summitview. Sawyer moved on. Gumble, Huber, Metzger, Kerdolff, Carter, and Strong are focusing on other sports.

Good points CC, but if you remember those "great" Turkeyfoot and Summit View teams built gaudy records against no one. They never played the AAU tourneys or against the Catholic schools/teams. I think they just played each other and the Boone feeders. Never tested themselves against any Cincy or downstate teams of note!! I remember some of the St. Pius middle school teams (and they weren't even the best of the NKY teams) scrimmaging against those "great" Turkeyfoot teams (Sam Lawson era I believe), doing quite well and then never seeing them again; until reading about their 2?-0 undefeated season in the paper.

I watched Scott's AAU team knock off the "great" Rockets in Lexington in the State AAU tournament. I believe the Rockets were a combination of St.Pius and Blessed Sacrament. These were all good players and teams. There is no reason to implicate that the public schools were either afraid to play the parochials, or that they did not measure up. I recall that several of the local teams played both AAU and Southwestern Ohio League. However, you probably don't remember most of them because Ralph had the Rockets play up, as did Fast Break with their blue chip recruits (aka Pat Elliot).

 

As noted about previous 8th grade phenoms, it's a shame that the Rocket's best player, Brett Sutton, doesn't play anymore. He was the real deal.

 

BGGreen... Do you know why the publics and parochials don't play each other in middle school? I don't get it, and I've always wondered why they aren't able to mix their schedules more like the Frosh.
