I do follow my 2 sons on Twitter. One is at college and has a really biting sense of humor (shocking I know!) and it's a way for me to laugh and to keep up with him.

Jim, I assume you have a cell phone, right? My guess is you were one that said "why do I need a phone with me all the time? I'll talk to people when I'm home. Why do we have to be so connected?" ???

I didn't join in the social media craze until my son and his (then) girlfriend went on vacation and were posting pics on facebook. I didn't have facebook at that time and he said if I wanted to see the pics, to get an account. So...I did. Then, social media became big in my industry, and I became the social media guru for my organization. Now I understand the value of the tools for both personal and business. I love all of it!

Anyone who says Twitter is dumb either doesn't have one, or are too stubborn to learn how to use it. Great source of information. Forget what celebrities and other people have to say...it's all about having the most up-to-date information on any subject you desire.

:thumb:

I have a twitter account that I use to follow certain people, Bill Simmons, Coach Cal, TMR, our very own Wireman, etc...

I don't post on the account but it is neat to be able to follow people that interest you and get information from time to time.

Like the NFL? Follow Adam Schefter, John Clayton.....

Like the Reds? Follow John Fay. Ask him questions if you please.

Follow college basketball recruiting? Follow Evan Daniels, Goodman, etc.

Like updates on what's going on around the world? Follow CNN...

It's endless..anything that you care about is on twitter. It's not about knowing things first, it's about knowing everything that's going on around you that you care about. It's not just like turning on CNN or ESPN on the TV. Those channels cover one single subject most of the time. Twitter is streaming with everything you want and need to know. If you don't care about college basketball, just don't follow college basketball writers. It's that simple.

I'm sure there were a lot of people who thought the internet was dumb as well.....

My entry into the cell phone world was a kicking and screaming one. I got one only because it was impractical in my line of work to continue using a landline. I am still very likely to ignore phone calls if I just don't feel like talking to anyone (which is somewhat frequent).

Especially when someone tries to get ahold of you when attending the sweet16.:irked::sssh:

I enjoy using Twitter while watching sporting events, etc. It's neat to get real time thoughts and feedback from sportswriters and and other fans while the game is in progress. This sometimes also works well with awards shows, etc.

Facebook is a bit creepy for me. I prefer not to know when someone leaves, does the laundry, or has a bowel movement, all within seconds of the paperwork.

You can also keep up with football scores from around the state by searching #KHSFB on Friday nights. Schools have encouraged principals in Ky to have twitter accounts and a lot of the principals post live scores on twitter on Friday nights. I post Boyle County scores on twitter myself and add the #khsfb(hashtag is the appropriate name, not pound or number sign).

On Twitter, fine.... # away. Texts, other forums like this one it's just annoying. Maybe people think it makes them look cool? :idunno:

Totally agree. They have an actual use on Twitter, elsewhere they are simply a wasted character.

Sorry 'bout that … :D

I just can't hear it very well with all the noise in that darned arena, and the vibrate feature on my phone is weak.

I apologize if anyone is my friend on Facebook and sees something with a hash tag. At times I post from my phone utilizing my social media ap that allows me to post to my facebook, twitter and linked in profiles all at the same time with one post
