LSU 9 Alabama 6 (OT)

Featured Replies

I'd prefer Boise over a rematch.

I'd prefer lots of scenarios over a rematch.

I'd prefer a national championship game where at least one team scores a touchdown. On offense, defense or special teams.

But they don't ask me.

My personal preference would be to see LSU face somebody other than Alabama in the BCS Championship for a couple of reasons.

1) I like to see the best teams from opposing conferences play each other. An LSU v. Alabama rematch takes away two potential heavyweight matchups of SEC's best vs. some other conferences best. Personally, I enjoy those games. I'd love to see them match up against Stanford, OU, Boise or whoever is near the top at the end.

2) LSU got it done in Tuscaloosa. 'Bama had every chance to win and couldn't. The Tigers should not have to play them again. All we hear about college football is that the regular season is the playoff...if we get a rematch, the first game meant next to nothing. And, not only that, if LSU doesn't win, the rematch will prove absolutely nothing. Who is the national champion if Alabama wins a rematch?

I'd love to see LSU get to play Boise State. That would be the most intriguing title game for me. Why? Because there's always that unknown with Boise. Thus far, they've worked their way up the ladder and have answered the bell at every turn, but they cannot quite crack the "big game". I believe LSU would be too much for them, but I want to see it. One way or the other, it will validate one side of the argument. Either Boise doesn't belong with the best of the best, or they truly can beat any team on a given day on a neutral field. I'm ready to see it. And, I think this year's LSU's presents a perfect contrast. Boise is a smart, efficient team that game plans and attacks well and runs like a well oiled maching. LSU is a vintage, throwback SEC team that relies on a dominant defense that features big, physical linemen and athletic playmakers. I want to see how Boise's offense can do against LSU's D.

Unfortunately, I think we may be headed for a rematch unless Stanford wins out.

Of course, LSU still has a couple of potentially tough games against Arkansas and maybe Georgia. What happens if LSU loses to Arkansas? Does 'Bama leapfrog them? Is it conceivable that LSU could win the SEC and have to watch Alabama play for the championship?

I agree with everyone. We had our chance at home and lost in OT. But everyone knows we had 6 chances to score while they had 3. We out gainned them in both stats. But LSU won in OT. There is some feed back and a specialist of ref calls and he has said..."when the receiver hits the ground and has his hands on the ball, its his ball, so the call on LSUs one was the wrong call". "That call always goes to the offensive player". Not me saying this.

I like to be fair on the BCS, and as of right now there are too many games yet to play. Let the games play out and each week let the system do its job, and hopefully we will have the two best teams AT THAT TIME play in the BCSCG.

Also, if Stanford/OSU win all their games and LSU too, I think the Cowboys/LSU should play in the BCS game. As it stands right now. These rankings chance weekly and if Standford defeats Oregon they will pass Bama. OSU wins out and we cannot pass them either.

But if these three lose, then everything goes back to what I said and others as we wait until the final rankings and let it go from there.

Geaux Tigers!!! And Alabama get a field goal kicker. No way should the Crimson Tide be eligible to play in the national championship game unless they are somehow able to win the SEC West , then win the SEC championship game, then they should be considered. They had their chance....next.

Even if you think they would beat the other contenders?

We can't say we're for a National Champion and then say rematches are automatically out.

If Bama is determined to be #2 put them in the game.

Otherwise, it's just a bowl game with good teams.

No matter how people may try to rationalize the regular season is not a playoff. The regular season is in no shape form or fashion a playoff. It is a regular season. Period. When you lose in the playoffs your season is over and you turn in equipment. Alabama is still playing. The job of the BCS is to have what is believed to be the two best teams AT THAT TIME playing for the title. When OSU loses and Bama and LSU win out we will have the two best teams AT THAT TIME playing for the title. If OSU wins out then we can watch them try to score on LSU.

Todd McShay estimates 15 to 20 players from this game will be drafted in 2012.

I saw that too and Colin Cowherd just played the tape of it, and then he asked how many from OSU/Standford would be drafted? He also said Todd said "a total of 30 counting the under classmen" too.

Bama fans are really upset at the play calling of the coaches and also trying 2/3/4 field goals. Punt the ball deep and let our defense play.

The call on the pick at the one was very close and its the most talked about single play, we need to move on and we have a 24 hour posting rule now in effect, and the LSU fans are not allowed to join the Bama site. Sounds like Old Russia, but its a free site and the LSU people want to trash us, so I can't blame them.

I've always heard that the ball goes to the offense in a tie, but they don't always seem to call it that way.

I'm pretty sure that same play happened in the UK/LSU game with UK on defense and it was ruled a completion for LSU. I'm pretty sure a UK DB went up and took it away as they landed and they gave LSU a reception.

The problem I have is how can you rule it a completed pass if the guy doesn't possess it all the way through. He goes up, gets his hands on it, and then as soon as they land the defender gets the ball. That's a tough call to make. By the letter of the law, I can see some complaint, but in reality, I think it should be a pick. The rule states they have to maintain possession through the process of coming down/falling, so why shouldn't that apply in this case as well? And, it cannot be an incompletion.

I agree with you Larry. I think Alabama should have punted and pinned LSU deep.

Alabama made some mistakes that you don't expect from a Saban-coached team.

Putting Maze out to return the punt cost them 30 yards of field position. The decision to repeatedly attempt long FG's instead of playing field position was questionable, IMO. And, the OT was just a disaster. Not a single run to Trent Richardson, a 12 men in the huddle penalty and then the QB takes a sack. I seriously question the decision to come out throwing in OT in game where no TD's had been scored in 60 minutes.

I have to admit that the OT finish was very disappointing. I feel like Alabama gave the game away in one series after the two teams had went toe-to-toe for 60 minutes. Of course, that could be viewed as a microcosm of the game itself. LSU stuck with the conservative plan and capitalized on its opportunities. 'Bama was more aggressive, but ultimately wasted multiple chances to put more points on the board.

To be clear, I won't be upset by a rematch. How could anyone not enjoy watching them play again? I would just prefer to see something else. Obviously, the college system is flawed, but if Alabama wins a rematch, it makes the champion even more questionable, IMO.

Great posts, but the last comment, I'd want a rematch only if the BCS says so, and if LSU/OSU/Standford lose, even though it concerns my team, I want the two best teams playing the final game. Remember it went OT.

Bottom Line: Do you think Stanford, Boise State or Oklahoma State is better than Alabama?

No I do not. I think Bama and LSU are both better than everyone else in college football this year. I think they would beat those teams you mentioned by 10+ points. I think Arkanasas is about even with those 3 teams and I think Boise State is the weakest of all 4.

I don't think it is fair to keep Alabama out of the championship game just because they lost a regular season game at home against the #1 team that just so happens to be in the same conference. If that is the case let's just do away with conferences all together. While we are at it let's fix the Final Four so each conference has one representative apiece. We'll give the conferences 3 spots in the Final Four and let's give the last spot to the best small conference team so the Boise State's and Butler's have a chance for glory also. How about that?

I agree with this. I just don't like the idea of a rematch. If all the other possible NC contenders (including Boise) have one loss, then it would make sense, otherwise, Alabama had their shot at home.

What if we were talking about Oregon and Stanford or Oklahoma and Oklahoma State at 1 and 2? If the scenario were reversed and it was two teams from a conference other than the SEC, I believe most would say no way they get a rematch. Revisit the 2006 “Who will Ohio State play” thread and most wanted Florida, actually 83% did. A lot of people also thought an OSU win was almost guaranteed against Florida and we all know how that turned out. Alabama controlled their own destiny and lost much like Michigan in 06. If they do play again and Alabama wins by 3 maybe they should be co-champs?
