theguru Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 From the article: "Insiders close to the St. Henry basketball program said that Kadetz needed to improve either his work ethic and/or defensive skills. Three calls to varsity coach Dave Faust were not returned. A call to Athletic Director Dennis Daugherty also was not returned. Zane's father, David Kadetz, told me that there are no grade or disciplinary reasons for Zane not making the team. What makes the entire situation even cloudier, St. Henry principal Dave Otte has his two sons playing basketball for the school. Mark, a sophomore, is on the jayvee unit, and senior Mike plays on the varsity. Checking the freshman stats of a year ago, Mark Otte played no more than three minutes per game. Can you spell nepotism?" The rest of the story.
NEERFAN Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Hard to believe that their frosh MVP didn't improve enough to make the JV roster but unless you are at every practice who knows. Either improve your game or transfer.
ColonelCrazy Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 This type of stuff happens at every program every so often. It just so happens that the principal's sons are on the team as well. Doesn't Kadetz own Izzy's, which is a favorite of Furman? I do know that the two are friends, and I have heard even neighbors.
h.s.sportsrbest Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Gee, I'd love to be that kid at school this week. I think Dave Faust runs a great program, so at this point I am all for giving him the benefit of the doubt. :thumb:
ColonelCrazy Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 One more thing to add: I don't think a coach should have to defend a cut that they make, especially not publicly like this.
All Play No Work Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 This type of stuff happens at every program every so often. It just so happens that the principal's sons are on the team as well. Doesn't Kadetz own Izzy's, which is a favorite of Furman? I do know that the two are friends, and I have heard even neighbors. I was thinking the same thing. This is like a, "Dog Bites Man" headline story. Gosh, what school hasn't had this type of thing nearly every year. Private schools is usually is based in what parish the players are from.
steelcurtain Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Furman is doing his job and loving it. He has all of us talking on this website and all over his listening area about a topic that we really don't know all the intangibles.........Way to stur the pot Andy
the legend red Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 You see this in both public and private schools. I think Saint Henry's coach knows what he is doing. Didn't he take that school to a class A title and the sweet sixteen a couple of years ago?
cshs81 Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Gee, I'd love to be that kid at school this week. I think Dave Faust runs a great program, so at this point I am all for giving him the benefit of the doubt. :thumb: Absolutely correct on both points.
NEERFAN Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I didn't even put one and one together about Kadetz and Furman. I agree, the coach shouldn't have to put up with this type of thing at the HS level.

As a long time friend of both the Faust and Otte families, and as a parent whose children have attended St. Henry, I truelly hoped this article would not be discussed on Bluegrass Preps. If there isn't currently there ought to be a rule against posting links to articles on here that mention kids by name and are negative towards them when they have no true control over the situation the article involves. As a parent what are you teaching your child when you take this story public after your battles with the school administration do not achieve the desired results? What reason could there possibly be for writing this article, and for mentioning the names of the Otte boys, besides trying to publicly humiliate them? Two very fine families are having their names dragged thru the mud because a kid got cut from a basketball team? You've got to be kidding! We're not exactly rolling in money at St. Henry, but I think if they really wanted Zane on the team they could have come up with another uniform. Mr and Mrs Kadetz, I feel sorry for you and for Zane because of what you are doing. Zane I hope you have a cast iron set and will get thru this without losing the trust of your friends. Faust and Otte families hang in there, those of us who truelly love St. Henry and are proud to say we are part of the Crusader family will support you 100%. Guru please cancel my subscription to BGP, I've had enough of the negativity found thru out this website and this will be my last post. Go Crusaders!!!
Miller Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Here are my two cents...not that it matters. The kid got cut, may sound harsh, but I have a feeling there has to have been a good reason for it. Coach of the year in KY 2003, has been walking the sidelines at St. Henry for how long? My heart thinks Coach Faust found a justified reason to cut this kid. However, super dad's will always strike. P.S. Andy Furman is a (words that cannot be used on BGP)!
skfan Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Wow!! Do they have thin skin at St Henry or what?? There was a legitimate link posted citing the source, Andy Furman and the paper he writes for. The Challenger. I found this to quite interesting I am sure this happens at a lot of schools. I say to the kid go to Brossart or Holy Cross and come back to haunt Faust.
