Looking at both sides, no one knows what really happened. Could this father be right? We don't know. But having said that, I hardly ever agree with Furman, just a blowhard behind a mic looking to stir anything up he can, good for his ratings I guess.

My question is, who the heck cares that the principal's sons play on the team? It has nothing to do with the situation Furman has brought to light? The issue is why was Kadetz cut?? Every time a parent questions me on a cut and brings up another member of the team, my answer is "we aren't here to discuss any other student athlete other than your son, now I will discuss the matter at hand and how it pertains to YOUR child". Furman dragging two other MINORS into the discussion should be grounds for his dismissal, as it can only do harm to the young men. If Mr. Kadetz has a problem with his son being cut, he has grounds to discuss the matter with the coach, which I assume he already has had discussions with, but didn't like the answer. Both Mr. Kadetz and Furman are the lowest of low. I agree with Bredman, superdad, get over it. Furman will never be on my dial again.

Wow!! Do they have thin skin at St Henry or what?? There was a legitimate link posted citing the source, Andy Furman and the paper he writes for. The Challenger. I found this to quite interesting I am sure this happens at a lot of schools. I say to the kid go to Brossart or Holy Cross and come back to haunt Faust.

 

Or how about GET BETTER!!!! I have never met a coach that said, "Hey this kid could really help our program be successful. LETS CUT HIM!!

I agree with almost everyone on this thread about the support for Faust and the support for head coaches. Like many others will also say, Furman gets no respect from me anyways. Especially after he was the MC for the Coaches Association Banquet Last year. (reasons were discussed in previous threads) But this is the last staw. Here are some points I have about this topic:

 

1. Dave Faust is one of the most respected and top coaches in the state.

2. I coached Zane on the JV team for summer camps and the kid is talented but had lots of room to impove with team skills and studying sets and defense.

3. Faust contacted me after he made the cuts, not just Zane, and he told me why it was so difficult. Not because of just Zane, becaus he hates cutting anyone.

4. Cutting Zane had nothing to do with his basketball skills.

5. I don't know if Faust told the parents all the reasons Zane wasn't impressing him but he did let them know about Zane's work ethic, lack of respect for the some coaches, and attitude.

6. This has nothing to do with the topic but the religion of the Kadetz's and Furman isn't Catholic and I've know the family has accused the school of cutting him b/c of the difference in religion. Thats totally wrong and out of line. This shows everyone the mentality of the family.

7. In the past weeks Zane and another student (non basketball related) were suspended from school for cutting out of a in-school event.

8. Zane is talented but don't go thinking he is going to be on a Varsity roster next season for anyteam in the region. He has a lot of work to do.

9. Players must work in the offseason-Faust always says "basketball players are made in the summer" I'll leave it at that.

10. The Otte boys may not be the most talented, but they work extremely hard. Don't miss weights or summer practice or open gyms. Hey Andy Furman they love the game too and show it by doing what they have to just make the team, so your going to take thier uniforms?

11. Why is Andy Furman covering high school sports in NKY for the NKY Challenger? He doesn't follow HS sports and when he does its only OJ MAYO and NCH? I really challenge the Challenger on why a writer is chosen. Because of his name or because he does his job well.

14. Before the article was written, a week after the cut, the mother did attend a booster meeting and told the same story. Boosters have no power but they did agree to let her speak. At the end she did say "We know people. I"m friends with Andy Furman. And if it comes down to it I will go to them" Classy mother also.

Wow ... what a calling out that was. Furman better have all his ducks in a row (and his facts straight) if he's going to challenge a high school coach for cutting a kid.

 

In my limited exposure to St. Henry basketball, Dave Faust has struck me as being one of the state's best coaches. I still think that if not for Michael Schmidt's knee injury in the Sweet 16 in 2003, Mason County would still be seeking their first state title.

HOPEFULLY the good people at St. Henry, including the students, will not take anything out on Zane Kadetz for his father going to Furman to make this public.

 

I Also agree with Westsider on two things. 1)That Furman better have all of the facts on this, would love to see someone stand up to him and challenge him. 2) If it wasn't for Michael Schmidt's knee injury St. Henry would have won the Sweet 16.

Dave Faust has and will continue to run a great program for a long time. He sure as heck shouldn't be second guessed by a guy that couldn't tell a flex cut from a haircut. Any coach that would cut a kid that would help his program win games either now or in the future is not worthy of coaching. The longevity and success of Faust's career should attest to his worthiness of coaching.

Coach Faust is one of the best coaches in the region and a class act. Remember, a head coach is charged with the responsibility of doing what is best for the program and not everyone is going to be happy. This is varsity basketball, not intramurals. Major cheapshot taken at the Principal and his kids. Undeserved and very disappointing. During his tenure at St. H, Faust has produced some great teams and some quality people. St. Henry is very lucky to have Coach Faust and I am sure he has the utmost support of the Crusader community.

Unfortunate situation for all involved. 20 years ago an incident like this would have spurred a student to work harder in the off-season so that next year he can prove the coach wrong. I recall a VERY good basketball player being cut from his team as a sophomore. He didn't give up. He worked hard and today people the world over recognize his name--Michael Jordan. Today, it spurs people to whine and cry and threaten.

I think 99% of us believe that the coach didn't do anything wrong. Just because a disgrunted parent goes to his puppet in the press to cry about his son being cut does NOT mean we have the right to speak poorly of the young man in question.

Never met either but this article smacks of use of the media, by one party to attempt an outcry for a return for the player, by the player's family and to discredit a coach.

 

If what NKBOY is reporting in item #5 and #7 is accurate, than the answer could be nothing more than that.

Very true however, unfortunately that's what the parent brought on to himself, his child and his family. It's not like anyone held back comments on Michael Mitchell when he was doing what his parents decided to do.
