October 31, 201114 yr So do they have a B team in both 7th and 8th grade that play in a different league? If so what league?
November 1, 201114 yr Now that football season has drawn to a close for most of the Northern Kentucky Schools, lets hear about the upcoming basketball season. Who are the teams/players to watch this year in 6th/7th and/or 8th grade hoops on the boys side. Have all schools conducted their tryouts and how many kids did they keep on each team? 7th grade is wide open. Blessed Sacerment won the 6th grade last year but will not be playing in the NKMSAA this year. The final 4 was BS, Ockerman, SV and Woodland. I could see one of those three making a trip to the finals. BS was let by the best 7th grader in the class Cole Vonhandorf, Woodland led by Jake Ohmer, SV led by JC Hawkins and Ockerman led by Dante Hendrix. Grey returns lots of size with Chase Ross and Bret Angel. But will be hurting at the guard position with Tanner Morgan deciding not to play hoops this season. 8th has to be Ockerman's to lose with Moss and Downs there. Did Holmes move all their good 8th graders up to freshman and JV? Twenhofel will have a lot of size and speed with the return of Eijah and Ethan. Conner has lots of experience coming back with Padgett and Garnett. Should get a good look at some team this weekend at Lloyd.
November 1, 201114 yr Ockerman 8th grade boys play at 6:30 Friday and I believe 5 on Sat. Anybody have any other game times for this weekend?
November 1, 201114 yr I agree that the 7th grade division is wide open, do we know why Blessed is not playing in the NKMSAA this year. Gray was one shot away from going to the final four last year and we will not miss that shot this year. Tanner Morgan will definitely be missed this year but there have been a couple of kids improve at the point guard position over the summer. Gray will be led by Coach Dickerson and you will see a totally different team on the floor this year.
November 1, 201114 yr Do not know anything as yet. Tryouts are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday if needed because of the 8th grade recognition game in football. They will play in the HMS tipoff tourney on Monday and Tuesday for sure, with hopes of advancing to Thursday's semis and Saturday's championship game. May take some time for this team to round into form because of the late start and having so many footballers. Teams have been selected for 6th and 7th grade, each with new coaches this year in Mike Herald and Kevin Nieporte respectively. What happened to Chris Scott at Highlands? Didn't he coach 7th grade boys last year?
November 1, 201114 yr do we know why Blessed is not playing in the NKMSAA this year.. I DO NOT have any inormation on Blessed Sacrament. But I do know of Catholic middle schools who are in the NKMSBL program where the gym time is always an issue. They have one gym to share with grades K-8 basketball leagues, and the NKMSBL takes two nights a week from 4:30 to 8pm to host games for just 3 of the 9 grades at the school---6th, 7th and 8th graders. I am not at all complaining about the NKMSBL at all! I love it! I just know that it can be a hard sell to convince the rest of the school to allow those teams to participate. I am excited for it to begin! This will be my 6th year of doing the Northern Kentucky Middle school tour. That is how I have spent my November through February for the past 5 years, on both the boys leagues and the girls leagues. The kids get so much basketball experience and sets them up well for high school ball. Let the games begin!
November 1, 201114 yr Author What happened to Chris Scott at Highlands? Didn't he coach 7th grade boys last year? I am not sure if he was not asked back or if he chose not to come back. He did coach the 7th grade boys team last year and from what I have been told by others is that he is coaching one of the 6th grade boys teams at Campbell County this year. Last year was definitely a learning experience for him on many fronts and hopefully he can take what he learned and have some success at Campbell County.
November 2, 201114 yr Let the games begin! Early tournaments at Lloyd and Highlands starting Friday ! - Who is going where?
November 2, 201114 yr I am not sure if he was not asked back or if he chose not to come back. He did coach the 7th grade boys team last year and from what I have been told by others is that he is coaching one of the 6th grade boys teams at Campbell County this year. Last year was definitely a learning experience for him on many fronts and hopefully he can take what he learned and have some success at Campbell County. I dont think he was asked back to be quite honest. Nieporte is a great replacement and will do well. He is a great motivator and Mike Herald at the 6th grade level is outstanding.
November 3, 201114 yr In the past I know Boone County didn't allow it. But the Conner 8th grade girls challenged that rule and a bunch of those girls on now playing up on the freshman and JV level. I'm sure if Thad is asked he could go and play. I wouldn't say a bunch, i beleive that it is only 2.
November 4, 201114 yr Author Can anyone list some of the matchups that will be occurring at Lloyd on Saturday. Are there games on Sunday as well?
November 6, 201114 yr Campbell County 8th looked good today at Lloyd. They beat RA Jones by 20 and Conner by 3. A good combination of solid bigs and quick guards. They will be a team to watch this year.
November 6, 201114 yr No Sunday games at Lloyd. Saw some nice pre-season action in Erlanger this week-end - Now, let the season begin!
November 7, 201114 yr Woodland will have a very good 6th grade team led by Andrew Dixon and the 7th grade team will be decent as long as Jake Ohmer keeps scoring like he did last year. The 8th grade team will be a disappointment though.
