Sharps 6th grade game at turkeyfoot was probably the best called game of our season. Refs were very good. IHM for us was horrible. Terrible, terrible refs!

Summit View gets all it's refs from the Chris Rolf the 9th region assigner. I wished all middle school did but they don't. Not all of Chris's ref that call middle school call varisty but the majority do. Twenhofel and Grey have the worse refs but they are in house refs.

Most of the time his refs do a great job but he does have a few that could use some additional coaching. Also, just because they call Varsity does not mean they call a good middle school game, I have seen several times when working a middle school games they perform at a lower level or do not feel the need for the same level of service and typically you can see it in their body language.

Another game I witnessed with p-poor officiating. Highlands 7th up 8 or 10 and then the officials take over the game with undeserved technicals and the fouls are very much in favor of the home team. I continue to be amazed that this nonsense goes on year after year down there and nothing is done about it. There are two solutions in my mind, Sharp is asked not to return or they cleanup the officiating. I can only imagine how their fans would react if this game was at Highlands and there coach was "T" up and ejected for absolutely nothing. This was not allowed to happen in the 8th grade game because the boys had experienced this nonsense in the past and led the game by double figures from early in the 1st quarter to the finish.

I was at Sharp for 6th & 7th grade games. These officials are a total joke! Highlands has 3 guys with 3 fouls in the middle of the 2nd qtr. The foul total is well past 10 to 4 at the half. After the 1st technical was called on the bench the other official is over at the Sharp bench laughing it up with their coach. It is not even worth the trip to go b/c win or lose you will leave in a worse mood than when you arrived. The funny thing is that even the kids on both teams know it is bad! The teams have common friends and even mentioned to each other during FT's the numerous bad calls, missed calls, etc. If they just let the players call their own like a playground game it would've been better.

The 6th grade game was ok and the 7th grade game did get out of hand. But the highlands coach should of kept his mouth shut after the first T. Fouls are fouls no matter where you are and officiating is sketchy at best when you are the away team no matter who or where you are. The highlands 6th grade coach was very good but their 7th grade coach was a clown.

Then there are games like 6th grade IHM vs Conner where the officiating makes no difference. After one of IHM's best players got hit (unintentionally) underneath the basket and had to sit for a quarter plus with a bloody nose, Conner got a good 20 point lead. Hat's off to the Conner 6th grade coach for pulling his starters for much of the game.

... the 7th grade game did get out of hand. .

What does that mean?

.... officiating is sketchy at best when you are the away team no matter who or where you are.

Really??? Why would that be?

I can tell you I was unable to make the trip but rest assured I was told I would be sitting outside with the coach. This is the worse homer gym ever. Phantom fouls a second technical for no reason. If I was an administrator I would refuse to play there until something is done about the officials. This is not based on one year and more than one parent feels this way.

The officiating at the Ockerman/Gray game last night wasn't any better than the HMS/Sharp game it sounds like.

Ockerman 6th grade boys beat Gray by 15 or so. Gray didn't have anyone that could match up against Robbins and he carried the load for the Hawks.

The 7th grade game started at 6pm and got done around 7:25pm. Granted there was an extra 10 minute halftime for the Ockerman competitive cheerleading team that was very good, however, I don't believe the game went up and down the court one time without the older, heavier set ref blowing his whistle with a call. Whether he was over ruling the other ref, and then, once that ref was a little miffed by the over rule and questioned the older ref, he tried to do a 'make up' call when Gray inbounded the ball on the sideline (against no pressure) the kid then passed it back to the player that inbounded the ball and the ref called that the player wasn't in bounds as of yet (although he had already taken 2 or 3 steps inbounds). Or, another classic call is when the older ref called a loose ball foul on Ockerman when both teams were in the bonus and Gray didn't shoot free throws. The calls were so bad and so often, you couldn't tell if he was leaning towards one team or not. Gray won 48 - 43 in what could have been a far better game if the refs allowed the teams to play and not worry about what call was going to be made next.

As for the 8th grade game, after a 5 - 4 lead at the end of the 1st quarter for Ockerman, it seemed much of the same crazy calls were happening again, I decided to leave. I believe Ockerman and Gray have some of the better 7th and 8th grade teams and it is a shame the refs wouldn't allow them to showcase their talents on the court and decided stop the clock each time down the court.

Since we are on the officials might as well give a stat from the Conner 7th girls game last night at Conner... IHM 16/37 from the FT line Conner 5/11 Final score IHM 25 Conner 36... Was Conner really fouling that much more than IHM? I do not think so but its 7th girls basketball you could probably call a foul on every time down the floor. I think the final count was IHM 16 fouls Conner 28. Was Conner the more aggressive team on D yes but they were also more aggressive on offense which normally results in more fouls on the opposing team. Do I think the officials did a great job?, No but they did a decent job. I think a lot of times we judge the refs on how even the fouls are and that may not be fair to the officials. In fact the first thing I heard from a very upset IHM parent after a close 8th grade game was that the foul count in the 2nd half was 14-4 in favor of Conner. IMO that parent missed a good hard fought game by 2 teams that didn't give up. The officials are not counting the fouls as they call them, and if they were I would question their abilities. Style of play and being aggressive on defense play a lot into the fouls. As long as they are consistent is all I am asking for. But there are many times that consistency is lacking in favor of the home team and it very obvious when this occurs.

BTW anyone have updated standings for both Girls and Boys for the NKMSAA?

What does that mean? There was a 3 to 4 minute stretch where there were questionable calls against Highlands and you could see their players taking the attitude of their coach. My thoughts.....their coach should of just shut up and coached his kids.

Really??? Why would that be?

Are you serious? Have you ever even seen a basketball game? PC got homered at IHM, you just deal with it as a coach....trust me I have been there done that...

Trust me its not the worse....and there was a reason for the second T..
