January 27, 201214 yr I can tell you I was unable to make the trip but rest assured I was told I would be sitting outside with the coach. This is the worse homer gym ever. Phantom fouls a second technical for no reason. If I was an administrator I would refuse to play there until something is done about the officials. This is not based on one year and more than one parent feels this way. And the fouls were actually pretty even in the books at the end of the game.....thats the facts
January 27, 201214 yr The 6th and 8th grade games were fine.....the 7th grade coach brought alot on himself...starting with being way out of the coaches box and throwing his arms around.....
January 27, 201214 yr BTW anyone have updated standings for both Girls and Boys for the NKMSAA? This seems to be the question of the year. . . No records or standings to be seen - only word of mouth/BGPers. Too bad, seems like there would be quite a few who would be interested in seeing more about middle school ball if NKMSAA would post ANYThing on their web site. I am pretty sure that Ockerman 8th grade boys are undefeated for the year, as well as Gray 7th grade girls. Gray 8th grade girls are undefeated in NKMSAA games. All of the teams are down to just a few games left before district tournaments start. Wasn't too impressed with Connor's refs, they let a lot of stuff go by, and then T'd a coach up for no apparent reason. But I'd rather have the ref "let them play", than bog a game down with their whistle.
January 27, 201214 yr Are you serious? Have you ever even seen a basketball game? PC got homered at IHM, you just deal with it as a coach....trust me I have been there done that... I have seen very very few middle school games, at the high school level no one gets "hommered" simply because they are the visiting team (at least in NKY I don't believe they do). So why does it happen at the MS level? More specifically why does it happen at Sharpe (I would ask the same of IHM if someone was participating in the discussion)?

I think they get their refs from an assignor. I have only seen the same refs a couple of times and don't recall the same pair together yet.
January 27, 201214 yr Author PC, I know you were at the game, but to say the second technical was deserved is a joke. You mentioned being homered at IHM and my question to you is did you like it? Obviously not, judging by your comments above. The fact is that the officiating at Sharp has been qeustionable at best for many years. An opposing coach cannot ask any questions about a call without the officials then having an attitude. I witnessed last night what I saw three years ago. A Sharp team getting beat and then the officials making calls that allowed the home team to get right back in it. As for the 8th grade game having no issues, there were some bad/questionable calls in that game, but it really did not matter because the Birds were in control from the outset and the referee situation was discussed with them before the game. In fact, they dedicated the game to the 7th grade coach who was unjustly tossed from the game in the first half.

Well the refs at sharp....I wouldnt say they homer......honestly they are just not that good and the PC parents are not happy with them either...but they are on the same level as the rest of the middle school games I have seen this year...........and that is a bunch in many many different counties from NKY to the Tenn. state line.....

As for being homered at IHM...you coach the situation...its not a matter of it being if you like it or not..Pc lost that game, was it the refs fault...nope, not at all, kids still have to make the plays and coaches still have to coach and not focus on refs. Do you even know what he what? You did not finish your statement. I agree that you have to coach your team and not worry about the officiating only if you feel your team is getting a pretty fair shake. Fouls do not have to be even and fouls are fouls, however when it is a foul at one end and not the other then we have a problem. Two examples from the 8th grade game last night. Highlands big makes nice power move on baseline, basket goes as he is hit. The call is not an "and 1" but rather a travel. You cannot travel when both feet leave ground at same time. Later in the game PC has ball in lane surrounded by 3 Bird defenders. One Bird has his hand on top of the ball from the time the PC player lifts it up for the shot, moves his hand off the ball and the shot is no good. Highlands rebounds the ball and then all of a sudden there is a two shot foul called. Was the official waiting to see if it went in first? I have coached for many years at many places and there are bad officials everywhere, but when they impact the final outcome of the game or change the momentum of the game then we have a problem. Perhaps next year when Sharp comes to Highlands they should return the favor and then see what the reaction would be. I am betting that we would be reading about it here on BGP.

That is my general feeling, but then middle school players seem to sense this and really start banging down low, at least on the boys side, and then everyone hollers for over the back calls and no calls. Seems like many fans go there to yell at the officials. The reality of it is that on most 8th grade middle school teams that only 2 or 3 players will play varsity high school ball. The skill set isn't as great as many parents believe. I think most of the coaches do a nice job with their teams. I tend to admire the coaches that have less talent, but still have taught good basketball fundamentals. The veteran coaches want to win every game they can, but realize that it really isn't that important in the bigger picture.

January 27, 201214 yr Author I doubt you read about it....we expect it everywhere we go and deal with it and move on.....its Middle school bball..... That is the exact quote that the Northern Kentucky teams make when they see that they have to travel to Sharp for a game. I am just glad that my trips are over.

I am just glad that my trips are over.So you should be use to it and deal with it....and your coaches should be smart enough to coach through it like Highlands 6th grade coach did. I have nothing but good things to say about Highlands 6th grade team and coaches....class coach and class kids...a good game that came down to kids making plays...

JOAT and I have been in more gyms then we care to count and we always agree that the refs and home team calls are the worse. I have seen bad and I guarantee this is the worse. The boys need to play through it. I take offense to our 7thteam grade boys not being class kids. I sure hope we draw you at district at a neutral location. Perhaps the lids can decide who should have won that game.
