Highlands 79 Pendleton County 0

Featured Replies

There is no alternative. Fort Thomas is one of only a handful of communities in the commonwealth that have the conditions that allow for a winning tradition in football. The competitive nature of parents within the community fuels the program and has made it the powerhouse that it is today. Kids from the county have other competing interests as well as geographic constraints beingthat prevent them from ever competitive. The KHSAA cannot wave a magic wand and change these concrete differences. It's the same for the private school dilemma in 6a. Just deal with it.
Pendleton was more suited to be competitive in their old district as was Harrison Co. They should never have been moved north to the city schools district.

Crazy stats especially when you consider it is in 18 quarters.

So he's played the equivalent of four and a half games which would be an average of just under 450 yds passing and about 5.5 TD's per game. That is pretty impressive.

72 in one half is running it up.

Looks like we have another one with Bird Envy....

For those that were there, did they start the running clock when Highlands hit 45 points? Just curious. The new rule says the running clock can start as soon as there is a 45 point spread, even in the first half.

Yes they did..

^ That makes 72 at halftime even more incredible. I don't fault Highlands at all for that score. It sounds like they started subbing. There was a running clock. The fact that the final was only 7 points more tells me HHS was not running up the score. I don't know what more anyone can expect from Highlands. At some point, the losing team has to own some responsibility for a score like that. When kids work their tail off, it isn't fair to them to tell them not to go out and play hard on game night.

Horst Mulmann, you could go back to the 4 class system and there is still a very good possibility that Highlands would end up playing Pendleton in district play. When we were in 4 classes Pendleton was suppossed to be in the district with Cov. Cath., highlands, Grant, and South Oldham. PC chose to play non-district instead of playing district play. Very good attitude by the PC kids, just keep plugging to get better. You can draw up 50 different solutions and you will find this, teams that do not match up to the Highlands of the state. The JV and younger kids played most of the game. This year the starting QB PT, has played 18 quarters, they are good and the reality is alot of the teams they are beating are not as good as them. Best of luck to PC next week and rest of the season. As far as a solution, maybe go to 5 classes and have a 6th super class playoff division, where you put the top teams from class 456 in there and allow teams to petition to play up into this division, or you go to a system like Ohio where you have to play and beat the top teams in order to get in. No real answer, it is what it is and we go play and try to get better.

Like I said in another thread it will be tough for HHS to play against the likes of Elder in two weeks..These kids never get to play a full game and we know they will definately have to against the Panthers. The district games will kill HHS when it comes time to play a really competitive game. What do you do??

If you created a super class, how many teams do you think would play in it? If you could get 10 teams to play in it I would be shocked. The fact is there are no easy answers. The have nots have to look at the top programs, see what they are doing and do what they can to catch up. Some of them will never be able to compete at that highest level for a state title, but they can get better and be more competitive. This problem really isn't new. How many non Louisville teams have won a top class title in the past 25-30 years? Maybe 3? So it isn't a 6 class issue because there were similar problems when there were 4 classes.

I don't know. Maybe, I wasn't there. The fact that they only put up 7 after that tells me they probably were not, though.

Personally, I'd love to see a super conference, although I know it will never happen.

I like the idea floated on another thread about allowing teams to move up & down in class based on their records. I know that rewards teams for poor performance, and potentially penalizes other teams for good performance, but it would be a start towards ending obvious mistakes that lead to games like those HHS & CCH have played recently. Give the top & bottom whatever % of teams in each class the choice to move up or down at the end of each season (isn't this how Euro soccer works, except that it's not a choice?). I know scheduling would be a problem though.

The above would be a great alternative if not for the scheduling issue. Given the excellence of the program, Highlands should be playing 6a for competitiveness. Cov. Cath should be there too to keep the rivalry going.:thumb:

Really tough spot for HHS. The starters need the minutes but it sounds like PT was out with about half the second quarter still to play. That's going to bite them in upcoming games but even if they played the minutes, would they gain much out of it in these types of games?

Just thinking(typing) out loud here, but wouldn't the lack of playing time have more of an impact on the D and O lines than it would the skill and LB/DB positions?

Dang gone it, now you've gone and done it. I might just have to agree. I'll get back with ya on it. See if I can come up with an alternative. I'll send out the "Mafia" signal to get help. BTW, full round table this morning.
