Dang gone it, now you've gone and done it. I might just have to agree. I'll get back with ya on it. See if I can come up with an alternative. I'll send out the "Mafia" signal to get help. BTW, full round table this morning.

Many agree with me but aren't man enough to admit it.

Kids from the county have other competing interests as well as geographic constraints that prevent them from ever being competitive.

Just thinking(typing) out loud here, but wouldn't the lack of playing time have more of an impact on the D and O lines than it would the skill and LB/DB positions?

Yes...

Cow tipping...

Pendleton was more suited to be competitive in their old district as was Harrison Co. They should never have been moved north to the city schools district.

On paper they are in the same class (enrollment) as highlands. No excuses. Be better. You don't get switched because you are a bad football team

Statements like this are why Highlands fans have such a bad and in some cases well desevered reputations. There are ZERO similarities between Pendelton county and Ft. Thomas other than number of students. ALL of the advantages that go toward having a good program exists in Ft. Thomas and just about every disadvantage in preventing a good program exist in Pendelton county, but yeah they should just get better or work a little harder!

No excuses? How about the fact that they are a relatively new football program (8 years old, I believe), or the fact that their entire county budget is probably comparable to Ft. Thomas city budget, or the fact that they come from an entirely different background (you can talk to the good folks in Falmouth...there is NO SUCH THING as high schoolers "not having jobs to focus on their high school career"). Those aren't excuses; they're reasons.

Games like this one, and the Cov Cath/Pendleton County game last week are perfect examples of how it's becoming more and more and more apparent that the KHSAA has there heads stuck where the sun doesn't shine. Just because the Pendleton County school enrollment is the same as Highlands DOES NOT mean they should compete athletically in the same athletic district...or class even.

That game was a totally pointless endeavor. Imagine how a kid would feel who would get hurt in a game 72-0 at the half. Better yet...imagine what Pat Towles' opinion would be of playing a game like that had he suffered a career ending injury.

Exactly.

72 in one half is running it up.

In this scenario, absolutely not. You can blame the KHSAA on this one. If it was not known with the turnout of last year's playoffs and what is happening in this district, as well as plenty of others throughout the state, it never will be. I don't know how closely you follow the sport, but I can tell you that Dayton beat Pendleton in a preseason game. With that in mind, it had to be obvious of what Highlands would do against them almost regardless of who played.

I agree completely.

Quite frankly, many people in the county have other interests/hobbies other than just playing football in a concrete jungle. Kids grow up playing in the woods, fishing, hunting, working the farm, or even horseback riding just to name a few examples, that many city kids aren't privy to. The entire culture is different in that they don't idolize football and obsess about it as much as a city like Fort Thomas does. So even though these kids got waxed by 70+, it won't affect them as much as you think. They've got more important things to worry about than a football game.....it's called life, Clyde.

Personally, I'd love to see a super conference, although I know it will never happen.

I like the idea floated on another thread about allowing teams to move up & down in class based on their records. I know that rewards teams for poor performance, and potentially penalizes other teams for good performance, but it would be a start towards ending obvious mistakes that lead to games like those HHS & CCH have played recently. Give the top & bottom whatever % of teams in each class the choice to move up or down at the end of each season (isn't this how Euro soccer works, except that it's not a choice?). I know scheduling would be a problem though.

I feel the same way, especially if Highlands and Cov Cath remain in 4A. I also agree that scheduling would be a challenge, but if it ever did happen, it would be great to see a district composed of Highlands, Cov Cath, Boyle County, Lex Cath, and Mason County. I know that Mason is not as tough as they have been over the years, but the Royals have definitely placed good teams on the field. If this happened, each team could schedule non-district teams/rivals they have played over the years. If something like this doesn't happen, I could see Highlands and Cov Cath possibly back in 5A.

I think the way I said it was wrong. The way schools are classified are due to enrollment. Not income, not whether they live in a urban area, not how new the football program is, it is enrollment. Teams can't move down a class under any circumstance, they can only move up if the geography is right. It's not Highlands fault or Pendeltons fault. Pendletons only choice is to get better.

You can say this or that, but at the end of the day the score is the score. It would punish good teams if teams could go to other conferences to play because they are not good enough to play with good teams. Just because a team loses by a lot doesn't mean you have to feel sorry for them. Sure they aren't expected to be good and they don't have advantages that other teams don't have, doesn't mean they should move them. Classifications are based on enrollment and always will be. Excuses don't count in the end, unless you want to feel better about yourself.
