NKY Frosh Title game, how will it be decided?

2. If Dixie defeats Ryle then they are eliminated from contention. Dixie would have 1 loss and be in the championship game and 3 would have 2 losses (Boone, CovCath and Highlands). The question will be how they break this tie. If they use the KHSAA guidelines of breaking three way ties, Highlands will advance to the championship game on the strength of being the only team to defeat Dixie and thus using their 8 wins. The most wins that CovCath and Boone can come back with are 5 or 6 which would be the number of wins that Ryle has. Another possibility is a coin flip which would give each of the three an equal chance of advancing.

Highlands does not have 8 win, they end the season with a 6-3 record or 6-2 in conference.

Boone did not play Dixie, so I do not know how that can be used as a tie breaker.

This will most likely settled by a coin flip.

No one said Highlands won 8 games. In a three team tiebreaker, you count the wins of teams you defeated that does not include the teams that are involved in the tie. Highlands would thus get Dixie's 8 wins to count towards their total because they defeated them. I honestly see no way that Boone or CovCath make the final game unless a coin flip is involved.

Also there is talk that Boone may have to forfiet Ryle game due to ineligable player. Not sure if true or not then they would only have 1 loss to Cov Cath, if Boone win and Dixie first game does not count?

Boone did have a ineligable player. Kid made some key tackles. Kid is going to Ryle now.

Here are the potential ways that this can shake out.

1. If Ryle defeats Dixie, there will be 5 teams with 2 losses (Ryle, Boone, Highlands, CovCath and Dixie). Good luck separating out that mess.

I would like to know who is playing who this week.

I know that Dixie plays Ryle and Boone plays Cooper. Highlands is done. What about CovCath?

It seems to me that if Dixie and Boone do not play each other (and all the other teams in the conference have) that there will not be this many teams tied. Everybody seems only to be focusing on the number or losses and not the number of conference wins.

If Dixie wins

Dixie is 6-1

Highlands and CovCath will both be 6-2

Boone will be 5-2 (isn't that correct since they did not play Dixie?)

Under that scenario Highlands and CCH are only teams tied for second and head-to-head would usually control to put Dixie and Highlands in championship

If Ryle wins it seems to me that you have a 3 way tie among Ryle, CCH and Highlands all with 6-2 records that would have to be sorted out and Dixe and Boone would be eliminated with 5-2 records making them a half game back in the standings from the other 3 teams (thereby not rewarding them for not playing each other during the season which would have been an additional loss for one of the teams)

Are my facts correct about the records of the teams or am I missing something?

You two are talking about Boone County Board of Education rules not KHSAA rules, Boone will not have to forfeit any games.

Guru, I understand what you are saying but in breaking a BCBOE rule, aren't you in a sense breaking a KHSAA rule? If not, then why couldn't the Boone County schools or that matter any school in the same school district, just keep switching players as their different teams needed them.

Seems to me you are saying a kid from Boone County could play football for Boone, Basketball for Conner, then play Baseball for Ryle and it wouldn't matter to the KHSAA since he lives in the County of Boone.

I don't believe it does matter to the KHSAA. They only concern themselves with varsity sports. You can't be "inelegible" with the KHSAA at the JV or Frosh level.

Several kids in Boone County live in one Boone district and go to a school in another Boone district. It is descretionary and I would say a little subjective. The powers to be in Boone County decided this kid needed to go to Ryle and not Boone so really the school system is correcting its own mistake. I really don't think it is any more complicated than that. If anything, Ryle would have to forfeit games (assuming the kid played for Ryle after transferring) and not Boone.

Not playing for Ryle, I believe already back at boone not sure if playing or not

This year Freshman Football Championship is a messy. If teams decide they don't want to play each other and everyone else does, how can you reward them for avoiding the competition. Games should be settle on the field. The only teams that are playing every body is Highlands and Cov. Cath. Play everyone if you want to be CHAMPIONS.

You know what happens when you "assume?" Double standards exist for Boone Co HS within the Boone County School system. The board favors them for many athletically motivated decisions. Still waiting for the next Shaun Alexander, I "assume".

Who is avoiding someone? Schools have a limit on the amount of games a school can play, many factors going into scheduling, and you can never predict who will be good and who will not be, when making the schedule. Your point is meaningless!

Are all the remaining NKY frosh games being played this upcoming Thursday? Any idea about when a decision will be made about who gets to play in the NKY large school frosh championship?
